2011 Year in Review AssignmentWhat events from 2011 will become history?

What the students should know?- Contemporary events can be significant.- We are living history- Some events are past and some get to become history- History depends on who is recording and choosing. (perspective and bias)

    - History is captured through iconic images and news. Some history is kept simply forthe images.

-How I know they know it:

    - The event and significance are explained.- Students can articulate the impact of the event in a larger context (city-country,

country- planet)- Images selected have been reasoned through the explanation.

Part 1 explains what the event was. Using the 5 Ws might be the best approach fora straightforward explanation. Remember the first paragraph of a newspaper articlefrom grade 6.

Part 2 will be explaining WHY this event is important and should be remembered 50years from now. What changed or why is this event so important?

Part 3 Find the iconic images that tell the story of your event. Think of it as a storywith a beginning middle and end. What images or headlines could you use to tell thestory with the pictures? We might be able to understand most of the story using yourpictures alone without the audio.

Part 4 Create a simple poster for your event that will act as the Augmented Reality

Trigger to play your video. The poster should be the first layer of information thatshares the event, date and a short explanation of what happened. Using the iPads, ouraudience will be able to view your video as the Augmented Reality layer, which will tellthe whole story.

Students will answer the question: What events from 2011 will become history?Students will brainstorm events from 2011 and establish criteria to decide which eventswill likely become history. Students will create a 2-part narration for a slideshow and findeffective visuals that tell the same story. A poster will also be created to act as the AR marker

    that activates the video.

Open the Aurasma application in your iPad and create an account if you havent done so.Aim your camera at your AR Marker, the poster, and click the camera icon in the corner.Follow the directions for the image marker. When asked, choose a file that will be activatedwhen the camera sees your marker. Find the video file in your camera roll.

*Remember, if you create Auras around the school or in the classroom please clean themup afterwards. It is almost like digital litter. If you create a fun Aura on a poster or another
