The Proportions of the Human Figure

A full grown person is about 8 head lengths tall (plus their neck).

Oval method: To start the drawing, draw the oval to make the head! Then leave a space

for the neck and continue adding more oval shapes.

Line method: To start the drawing, draw the oval head then add the spine, then hips and shoulders.

Next add the shoulders, hips and then the limbs (arms and legs).

TASK: In your homework book, using the examples above, draw yourself (using a mirror), or a familymember or friend in these positions.

(Just keep to the basic shapes while you are practisingdont add details to the first 4 drawings inyour book.) Draw two pictures of each pose (one using lines and one using oval shapes of a person:

Now use an A4 sheet of paper to make a detailed drawing of yourself or another person. Usethe method that suits you (lines or ovals) and then go on to create the best picture youcan. Add facial details, clothes, shoes etc and rub out any of the guidelines you used to

make the human shape.

Bring in your 5th and final picture to display in the classroom.
