Exercise 0.1. Hello Dr. Khan, I would like to introduce myself here.My year at SLU is a Junior. My major(s) is(are) Electrical Engineer-ing. My minor(s) is(are) none. My hometown is St. Louis, MO. Mycomputer’s operating system is Windows 8. This is a gentle diagnosticset to get me into using LaTeX. I certify that I have carefully readthrough Chapter 0 of the textbook.
Exercise 0.2. The purpose of LaTeX is to be able to typeset mathe-matics professionally. A set S is a collection of objects such that theelements of the set do not include the set itself. The previous sentencewas an example of in-line math mode. This pertains to the sectionUsings Symbols in Chapter 0.
Exercise 0.3. Here is an example of a displayed formula:
E = mc2.
Display mode is recommended for either a very important math state-ment or for long strings in in-line math mode (at least one-third of thedisplayed width). This pertains to the section Writing MathematicalExpressions in Chapter 0.
Exercise 0.4. This example shows how to use the proof environment.
Proof. My mathematical proofs shall obey the three C’s: concise, clear,complete. Look up these terms in the dictionary. I should first draft aproof on paper to get the argument straight, then type it, and re-readit several times to get it smooth and beautiful before handing it in.
