"Jenny and Jenny were two best friends. Yes, they had the same names. That is what triggered

their friendship to start with. However, by nature they were very different. This is what made

them best friends. Jenny Almeida was home schooled, whereas Jenny Kramer went to a public school. Even though they came from similar family backgrounds and the same neighborhood,They were very very different. Jenny Almeida was very quiet and prim. Jenny Kramer on the

and theater fanatic."

Many would say that these differences are normal. No two girls are the same. The reason whythis case was cited here was because of the main reason behind this difference- Homeschooling vs. public school. That is what inspired the difference in the two girls.

Homeschooling Pros and Cons The pros and cons of homeschooling are not tough to find. Let's start with the pros.

y  Homeschooling gives the child more educational freedom. The kid studies and learnswhat he wants.

y  Physical freedom is another pro for homeschooling. Life does not revolve around car  pools, school timings and exams.

y  For the child, homeschooling provides emotional freedom. The child does not need todeliver to the evil effects of peer pressure, competition and bullies. They can study at peace.

y  Closer family relationships are made possible with homeschooling. The child will enjoyspending time at home with the family, than outside. Adolescent fears for the parents are

also reduced considerably.y  A certain degree of stability can be guaranteed when the child is homeschooling. Be it

illness, emergencies or any requirements. There is a guarantee that disturbance will be theleast.

y  The kid will not be fatigued out at the end of the day and will have a more rested outlifestyle. Pressure and stress will also be quite less.

y  Personal attention while homeschooling allows a kid to do in lesser time what children inschool take longer to do. As such, homeschooling makes the children relatively moreefficient at studies.

The cons in homeschooling are not the tough to figure either. Let's see the reasons why

homeschooling is bad.

y  Homeschooling can take up a lot of time of the parent. Leading to an acute time restraintfor the parents. Picture a kitchen table filled with books and no food cooked.

y  Homeschooling requires one parent to be at home full-time. This could lead to a financialrestraint on the family. The income would reduce, while the expenditure would, almost, remain the same.

y  Team sports for the kid can be forgotten if you opt for homeschooling. Being that in thehome school there is, but one student, teams would be hard to make and competitionswould be kind of one sided, don't you think.

y  You have to accept that homeschooling is an oddity. As such, in a neighborhood wheremost children go to a public school, one home scholar may find it hard to make friendsand might find it very easy getting teased.

Public Schooling Pros and Cons Public schools, even though a regularity have their set of pros and cons. Let's first see the pros.

y  Transportation is provided. As such, worrying about car pool or pick up and drop is notrequired.

y  Public schools provide the kids with an opportunity to partake is great activities liketheater and bands. All round development is easier in public schools.

y  There are several after-school programs that are available at public schools. The childrencan opt for those and choose what they wish to do.

y  There is a certain level of proficiency in the educators at public schools. Most statesrequire the teachers to be trained and certified. As such, the educators have to live up to astandard.

y  Public schools are funded. As such children studying in public schools have moreopportunities and resources available to them.

y  A child studying in a public school is exposed to the different types of people in theworld. As such, it can be said that public school prepares an individual who can face theworld with confidence.

The cons in public schools can be seen as well. Let's see the education problems and solutions

there.

y  Peer pressure and bullying is a regular affair at public school. Non conformism andinnovative thinking is not easily acceptable.

y  There is no individual attention given to the students. As such, certain gifted but quietstudents tend to get lost in the crowd.

y  There are too many varieties of students studying at public schools. As such the parentsdo have much control over the kids their children get along with.

y  Children tend to get rude in the attempt of "taking care of themselves". There is moreexposure to social evils. These factors often get a little difficult for parents to handle or avoid.

Read more about education problems in public schools. Both sides of both the coins are seen. Now, let's take the next step.

Homeschooling vs. Public School - Which is Better? I am not even going to try getting into any of the homeschooling vs. public school statistics here.My arguments in this case are neutral and based on practicalities of life. Homeschooling versus public schooling is an argument that has gone on for so long, simply because there is no correctanswer there. For certain families and certain children homeschooling can be the best option. While for some factors, public schools can be the better choice. Eitherways, the ultimate goal of deciding between homeschooling or public school, should be optimum learning for the child. If

that it maintained, then the mode of schooling in immaterial.

That is how Jenny Almeida and Jenny Kramer are good friends, in spite of coming from differenttypes of schooling. They were both comfortable with where and what they are. That is the signthat the career education foundation is being prepared well. Homeschooling vs. public schoolingshould be given a thought to before considering enrolling the child in school. Keep in mind your wants for the child as well as the requirements of the child, on the basis of society and propriety. This is where I sign off! Choose well!

One of the very first questions that most parents ask about home schooling is whether it actuallyworks. They are only too well aware of the fact that the public schools have problems, but reallywonder whether they can do any better. One natural response for some parents is to try a littleharder to see if they can afford private schooling but, even if this were possible, are the privateschools faring any better than the public schools?

The simple fact of the matter is that there are many, quality studies which show that, on average, home schooling produces superior students. To an extent of course this is understandable as parents clearly have an effect on education no matter which route they take. A parent who isgenuinely interested in the education of his or her children will help to motivate them, producing

 better results.

But there is certainly more to it that this and there are many cases, in a great enough variety of situations, to take even this into account and still come to the conclusion that home schooling produces better results.

Even the Unites States Department of Education agrees. In one study which they sponsoredthemselves home schooled students produced exceptionally high test scores. The median scoresin every grade were far higher than those of public schools and even higher than those of privateschool students. The average home schooled student in grades one through four was a grade levelabove that of public school peers and, by the time home schooled students reached the equivalent

of the 8th grade, they were as much as four years ahead of students attending public school.

As if this were not enough, costs were also lower. On average, government schools spent $6,500 per student each year and private schools spent $3,500. By contrast, parents undertaking homeschooling spent about $550 per student each year. This figure for home schooling does not of course take into account the time spent by parents on home schooling for which a public schoolteacher would be paid.

The public school system as we know it today evolved during the second half of the 19th centuryas one state after another made school attendance compulsory. Perhaps the most interestingquestion however, and one which rarely seems to be asked, is why, if public schooling offered

such superior value, it was necessary for the states to make it compulsory and to force parents to put their children into the public school system.

It could be, and sometimes is, argue that this was due to the ignorance of rural parents who didnot see the value of education. However, it is interesting to note that adult illiteracy rates in 1840Massachusetts were a low 2% and that, by 1995, this figure had risen to 19%, in spite of apparently enormous advances in the intervening years. In 1840 libraries were rare and todaythey are everywhere as books are both relatively inexpensive and easy to trade.

What are the advantages of home schooling?

It is reasonable to ask, given advances in education over the last century, what are the advantages of home

schooling? What on the surface may look like an old-fashioned teaching method is increasing in popularity across

the nation. Why is that? As it turns out, there are many good reasons for parents to home school their children,

not the least of which is the fact that one-on-one tutoring has been widely recognized as the most effectivemethod of education.

In a large classroom setting, even the best-trained teacher is incapable of giving the individual attention necessary

to help each student excel. Parents are not only able to devote much more time to their children, but they also

know their pupils on a personal level. They are able to tailor their curriculum and teaching styles in ways that are

most conducive to their child's productivity. This individualized attention is one of the advantages of home

schooling.

Because of the variety of curriculum choices available to home schoolers, parents have several options when it

comes to the material used for instruction. Not only are they given the freedom to teach core subjects from a

biblical perspective, but they can also incorporate their child's interests into the curriculum. Skills such aswoodworking, cooking, managing money, and shopping for healthy food on a budget can be learned through real-

life interactions and projects. The advantages of home schooling are both personal and practical.

The majority of time children spend in school is not spent focusing on academic subjects; it is spent waiting in lines,

waiting for other students to be done with their work, waiting for the teacher to move on to another subject,

waiting for recess, waiting for lunch. Home schoolers can cut out all of this unnecessary waiting, and get their work

done within two or three hours. They can move at their own pace and still have time left over in the day to explore

other interests.

Despite shorter schooling hours, home schoolers have consistently scored at or above average in virtually all

subject areas on standardized tests. Studies have shown that children whose parents are directly involved in theireducation are more apt to excel in academics. Indeed, a home-schooled child is aware of the dedication of his

parents to his educational success.

In addition to this, extended periods of time together strengthen family relationships, not only between the child

and his parents, but also with his siblings. As they get to know each other, the family members form bonds that

last a lifetime. Children tend to adopt the behaviors and values of those around whom they spend the majority of

their time. Therefore, it stands to reason that home-schooled children are more likely than their classroom-

schooled peers to value the views of their families over the views of their friends. They will find it easier to resist

the pressure they get from their friends to break rules because they won't be spending hours of idle time together.

A home schooler's social experiences tend to be more positively influenced; they have the opportunity to spendtime with children and adults of various ages, rather than thirty or more same-age peers.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of the many advantages of home schooling, but just because the benefits

seem to outweigh the disadvantages does not mean that home schooling is for everyone.

There is more than one way for parents to educate their children; we should not assume that home schooling is

right for every family in every situation.

What makes homeschooling better than traditional schooling? Lately, there is a rising trend infamilies choosing to homeschool their child than send their child to a traditional educationalinstitution.

Let's look at some of the benefits of homeschooling over traditional schooling:

1. Flexible Schedule

Homeschooling enables a flexible schedule. For example, the child does not need to wake up at 7every morning. With homeschooling, your child can start homeschooling at 9am or later depending on your preferred schedule. You can schedule your child's homeschooling educationas you see fit with materials or subjects that may be not available in a traditional school.

You can tailor the homeschool curriculum to suit the needs and interest of your child.

2. Individual attention

In a traditional school setting, thirty to forty students are assigned to a teacher in class. Thereforeusually, the teacher cannot devote 100 percent attention to any child since it will not be fair tothe other children. Plus, it is quite impossible to provide individual attention to all students.

With homeschooling, your child gets all the individual attention he/she needs. For example, if your child is weak in mathematics, you could devote more time and energy into teachingmathematics.

Your child's homeschooling schedule can be adjusted to crater for that. For example, if your child is better at science than at mathematics, simple devote more homeschooling hours to

mathematics and cut back on science. With homeschooling, the choice is yours. Traditionalschools can't do that.

3. Family Activity

The schooling of the child can become an extended family activity. Examples are field trips andexperiments. Plus, the child also receives more quality time with his/her parents. There is moretime for family bonding. The child is also free of any negative peer pressure or influences.

4. No peer pressure

With homeschooling, the child does not need to prove his/her abilities to other children. Parentsare able to deeply understand their child better with homeschooling and therefore are able to planthe learning program according to his strengths and weakness.

Parents can also change the curriculum to suit the learning style of the child. For example, somechildren learn better from reading while others need to write. Some children even learn better from experiencing or seeing things in action.

5. Religion Learning

Religious learning is a sensitive issue hence most traditional schools shunned it. However, withhomeschooling, parents can take control over the moral and religious learning of the child.Parents can impart their ideologies and deep beliefs into the child rather than let the school

dictate what moral and religious education the child will be receiving.

Homeschooling is the best way to educate a child as you can see from the advantages listed below. If you have the time, the interest and the ability, why not give it a try?
