WARM-UP
Answer the following questions in your notebook:
1. Explain what you think the Greenhouse Effect is in your own words.
2. What do you think the relationship is between the Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming?

WHAT IS THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT?
Greenhouse Effectgases slow the movement of heat away from Earth’s surface
gases absorb and emit infrared radiation, which keeps heat on Earth.
This is considered a scientific FACT
![Page 4: Homeroom](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022070418/56815a4e550346895dc7815e/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
WHAT ARE GREENHOUSE GASES?
Greenhouse Gases Carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor, and nitrous oxide.
They are mixed together
Without these gases, Earth would be very cold!

GLOBAL WARMING
The rise in the average temperature of Earth’s atmosphere and oceans since the late 19th century
The rise in CO2 and other Greenhouse Gases in the last few centuries is associated with the rise in global temperatures since the Industrial Revolution in the 1800s
Global Warming is considered to be a Scientific THEORY

Ex. Coal
Smog
-Combo of smoke and fog-Sun causes the fumes from cars and other gases to react
