IRRIGATIO BASICS

THREE MAI COMPOETS OF A IRRIGATIO SYSTEM

Controller - The controller is the ‘brains’ of the operation. It tells the valves when to operate and how long to supply water to the sprinklers. The controller operates the valves in order, one at a time. One station will run completely before another one turns on.

Valves - Each valve will control a specific set of sprinklers referred to as a ‘zone.’ On the controller, a valve is referred to as a ‘station’. Sprinklers - Sprinklers are selected based on coverage required, pressure, and output.

SMART IRRIGATIO

WATER EARLY IN THE MORNING TO REDUCE EVAPORATION.

DON’T WATER PAVEMENT OR SIDEWALKS. ADJUST SPRINKLERS TO WATER ONLY THE PLANT MATERIAL.

 DON’T WATER WHEN WINDY.

USE DRIP IRRIGATION FOR GARDENS, TREES AND SHRUBS.TARGET WATERING WILL USE 30 - 50% LESS WATER THAN SPRINKLERS.

WATER AS THE PLANTS NEED IT, NOT BECAUSE IT’S EASY!

ADJUST WATERING TIMES AS THE SEASONS CHANGE.

DID YOU KOW? A properly designed, installed, and operated irrigation system can reduce your water use by 20% annually.

IRRIGATIO BASICS GETTIG STARTED

What is the Water Source?

The most common place to connect an irrigation system is at an outside faucet, or preferably tied into the water line inside the house as the pressure will be better.

Another option is to use a dedicated irrigation well on your property. An environmentally friendly way to source an irrigation system is by using a rain-

water harvesting system. Water is collected from the roof and is stored in a tank for future use (See Bushman Tanks at the back of this catalogue).

If taking water from a lake, be sure to call the Department of Environment for water permits and regulations. We can size and supply a pump for your system requirements.

Establishing Pressure (PSI) and Gallons Per Minute (GPM) The assembly pictured below is used to establish the output (GPM) at the desired pressure. Connect the assembly to an outside faucet, turn on the water, restrict the water flow by using the ball valve until the pressure gauge reads 40PSI. Collect the water for one minute and then measure it. The results will give your GPM at 40PSI. If your system does not have adequate pressure (PSI) a booster pump may be installed. If your system does not have adequate flow (GPM) another source will have to be used.

REMEMBER!! THE UMBER OF HEADS PLACED I A ZOE IS DETERMIED

BY THE FLOW AD PRESSURE OF THE WATER SOURCE.

40 PSI

FAUCET 3 GPM

The minimum operating requirements for an irrigation system are 3 GPM at 30-40PSI.

DID YOU KOW? If you water your lawn at midday under the hot sun, you may lose 30% of the water to evaporation.

DID YOU KOW? If you keep your lawn cut at a minimum of two

inches, the roots will stay shaded and the soil will hold moisture better.

DRIP/XERIGATIO

Dripline is an efficient way to water the soil. The low volume line applies

water slowly, at a low pressure, at or around the root zones of the plants.

By applying water directly to the root zone, you can reduce overspray and

evaporation.

Inline emitters apply water in gallons per hour (GPH). Roll lengths are

100’ and 500’.

Designed for irrigating densely planted areas to provide uniform coverage .

EMISSIO DEVICES AD ISTALLATIO OPTIOS

Drip irrigation offers design flexibility, simple installation, and it is easy to expand and/or alter.

Emitters can be placed directly into flower pots, or at the base of shrubs and trees which require more water

than other planting material.

Xeri-Bug emitters have flow rates of 0.5, 1, and 2

GPH.

Pressure compensating emitters have flow rates from 5 to 24 GPH. They are medium flow emitters for

watering larger trees and shrubs.

Did you know? You can reduce water run off by using short water cycles. Water for 3 five minute cycles rather than one 15 minute cycle.

RAI HARVESTIG AD STORAGE

Did you know? If 25 mm of rain falls on a 500 ft² roof, 1150 litres of water can be collected and stored.

Rainwater harvesting is the practice of capturing rainwater from a

roof. Rainwater is diverted into a collection system that filters and

stores the water for future use.

The benefits of a rainwater system are in the long term returns.

Rainwater provides a good alternative, not replacement, to potable

water. Supplement municipal or well water with stored water for uses such

as lawn/garden irrigation and car washing.

GREE' LIVI'G

Many Canadians are trying to live a “green life” by reducing their impact on the

environment and climate. By using stored water, you can reduce the amount of power

used to collect, treat, and transport water from a municipal holding facility to your

house.

Save clean water for drinking. Given that water is a limited resource and its use will be

restricted in the future, it makes sense to use stored rainwater to water the garden/lawn

and wash the car.

All rainwater that falls must end up somewhere. By collecting

rainwater before it enters storm drains, you can reduce the

potential of storm water pollutants ending up in lakes,

streams, and the ocean, resulting in a cleaner eco-system.

Another attractive benefit of using a rain harvesting system is

the money savings. Once the water is stored, it’s free!

FOR EVERY 25MM OF RAIFALL, YOU CA EXPECT TO

CAPTURE 2.5 LITERS OVER EVERY SQUARE FOOT OF ROOF.

HISTORICALLY, JUE HAS THE HIGHEST AVERAGE RAIFALL

(108MM) I THE SUMMER (www.theweathernetwork.com).

IF 108MM OF RAI FALLS O A 500FT² ROOF, 4968 LITRES OF

WATER COULD BE COLLECTED AD STORED.

Evolution Fountain Features

Operates in just 20” of water. Simple plug in and go operation.

Inexpensive to purchase. Prices start at $1200.00 Low operation costs: Fountain: 6 cents/hour Lights: 1 cent/hour

2 year warranty. Various nozzle patterns available. Controller with timer and photo cell included on 60Hz products.

The Evolution Series fountain was developed

from three basic ideas: simple to assemble and

maintain, low cost to operate, and patterns that

look great. This evolution of ideas brought

about a fountain that has four main parts (float,

suction screen, pump, and motor), a cost to op-

erate of approximately six cents per hour and

spray patterns that rival most large scale foun-

tains. Along the way we built in another im-

portant aspect: quality.

Aqua Control, Inc. The Possibilities are Endless….

The 1/2 HP Evolution Fountain is the perfect solution for small ponds.

Optional 120V LED Light Kit: Four high powered LED lights. Comes with Cool White lamps. Optional colors: red, blue, green, yellow.
