Obituary
STAFF SGT. ROBERT MOSS, JR. was born December 1, 1942. He entered into rest on Friday,
November 4, 2016, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia.
STAFF SGT. MOSS was a native of Augusta, Georgia, and a faithful member of Mount Olive
Missionary Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. He attended Floyd Graham Elementary and Lucy
C. Laney High School.
STAFF SGT. MOSS was a member of the Eastern Gate Masonic Lodge 414. He retired from the
United States Army with thirty years of service, Uptown Veterans Affairs Medical Center with
seventeen years of service, and fve years as an over the road truck driver. He received numerous
awards, medals, ribbons, and certificates during his thirty years of military service.
He married the love of his life, Mrs. Katie M. Moss, on December 3, 1974, and adopted three children
at that time.
STAFF SGT. MOSS was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Lucille) E. Moss, Sr.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his dear wife of forty-three years, Mrs. Katie M. Moss; nine
children, Rev. Dr. Darryl (Odessa) Hammond, Sr., Sandra (Andrew) Anderson, Valerie (Michael)
Randolph, Vedra (Timothy) Joshua, Frances (Shalanda) Cook, Julia (Phillip) White, Sterling
Johnson, Va’Jillian Oatman and Wyatt Ludwig-Moss (his heartbeat); twenty-six grandchildren and
eighteen great grandchildren, all from Augusta, Georgia; two brothers, Elder Richard (Charlie May)
Moss and Eugene Ryans, both of Hephzibah, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Rosetta (Joe) Thomas
and Gloria Jean (Billy) Young, both of North Augusta, South Carolina; two brothers-in-law, the
late Rev. Robert (Mary) Williams and Thomas (Mildred) Williams, both of Augusta, Georgia; three
aunts, Mary (Leroy) Butler of Augusta, Georgia, Eva G. Brooks of Yonkers, New York and Annie
L. (Willie) Felix of Hephzibah, Georgia; two uncles, Willie (Leola) Moss of Augusta, Georgia and
Clancey Moss of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, foster children
and special friends.
