7:00 pm Film Screening: Pass It On! Presented by Will Graham Will Graham ’76 cocaptained the Middlebury football and lacrosse

teams, and he went on to earn an MA from the Bread Loaf School of English. Will is now the headmaster of a small private boarding school in California. In 2012, Will teamed up with filmmaker Peter Coonradt to find a way to show his appreciation for the coaches and teammates who helped to shape and influence the person he has become. Pass It On! resonates with ideas about the purpose and value of sport that go far beyond Middlebury. This warm, deeply personal film is both old-fashioned and radical in the broader context of American college athletics.

3:00– Open House: Solar Decathlon, Self-Reliance5:00 pm Middlebury was the first liberal arts undergraduate college to

compete in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. The Solar Decathlon is an international green-building competition that challenges teams across the world to design, build, and market net-zero homes. Middlebury has competed in both the 2011 and 2013 competitions. The 2011 Solar Decathlon entry, Self-Reliance, is now student housing on campus, and the 2013 Solar Decathlon house, InSite, is currently traveling back to Middlebury to become Middlebury’s second net-zero, student-built home.

Please stop by Self-Reliance, and meet the students who have just finished competing in Irvine, California. Make sure to ask them about their innovative use of solar panels!

loosely connected individuals whose lives are touched by violence or death. The ticket office and the Snow Bowl Ski Shop will be open for season pass purchases, and Snow Bowl and Rikert snow school personnel will be on hand. Proceeds will benefit the Ski Club. Halloween family event. This kid-friendly woodwind quintet concert includes an introduction of the instruments and several seasonally spooky selections. The highlight of the performance is an arrangement of Prokofiev’s classic Peter and the Wolf with a special guest narrator, music professor Peter Hamlin ’73. 4:00 pm Cascando A workshop exploration of Samuel Beckett’s Cascando, a rarely

produced short radio play originally subtitled “a radiophonic invention for music and voice.”

The audience is invited to attend an intimate staged reading of the play in an informal salon setting and then discuss the work with director Dare Clubb, composer David Lang, cellist Maya Beiser, and performers Jeffrey Brown and Alex Draper ’88. Following the discussion, the artists will reconfigure the workshop staging and perform the piece a second time. Conversation and conviviality will end the session.

research on the museum’s sculpture of Saint Barbara in the context of medieval surrogacy, devotion, and ways of seeing. Enjoy further conversation over a light lunch in the lobby.

Screened and Selected II: Contemporary Photography and Video Acquisitions 2006–2011September 13–December 8, 2013 This exhibition celebrates the collaboration between the museum and donor Marianne Boesky ’89, who initiated a multiyear project through which Middlebury College students selected works of art for the permanent collection. The many works acquired with these funds span the past four decades and include art by Chuck Close, Peter Fischli & David Weiss, Idris Khan, Shirin Neshat, Robert Mapplethorpe, Roe Ethridge, Ryan McGinley, Tracey Moffatt, Catherine Opie, and James Welling, among others.

Vito Acconci: Thinking SpaceSeptember 3–December 8, 2013 This exhibition marks the inauguration on campus of a replica of Acconci’s Way Station 1, which was constructed in 1983 near what is now McCardell Bicentennial Hall. The exhibition and its accompanying publication place the work in the context of Acconci’s ongoing, extraordinarily influential career. Supported in part by the Committee on Art in Public Places.

Ancient Mediterranean and Early European ArtOngoing, Lower Gallery On view in this updated and revised installation are recent acquisitions in Egyptian and Mesopotamian art as well as Greek, Roman, and medieval European objects from the museum’s permanent collection. Highlights include an Egyptian Old Kingdom relief and an early 15th-century Italian panel painting.

European and American ArtOngoing, Cerf Gallery This installation, which changes regularly, features highlights of the museum’s collection of Western art from the Renaissance to the end of the 19th century. Landscapes by American painters Jasper Cropsey and John Frederick Kensett are on view alongside 16th- and 17th-century European religious and devotional images and American and European sculpture.

Asian ArtOngoing, Robert F. Reiff Gallery of Asian Art On view in this gallery, in addition to a dramatic suit of Japanese ceremonial armor, is a wide range of East Asian ceramics: Chinese funerary sculpture from the Han (206 bce–220 ce) and Tang (618–906) dynasties, celadons and other wares of the Song dynasty (960–1279), and blue-and-white enameled porcelains of the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing dynasties (1644–1911). Also included in the installations are Japanese tea ceremony wares and Korean celadons.

ParkingDue to the construction of the new Field House, event parking is limited.

• Event parking will be available at the tailgate area, the Mahaney Center for the Arts lot, Dragone Track lot, on the north side of Porter Field Road, and in all parking lots in the center of campus. • There is no parking for students or other fans at the athletic complex. • The small parking lot behind Nelson Arena and the museum loading dock will be reserved for the game officials.• There is no parking of personal vehicles behind Kenyon Arena. This area is under construction and is clearly signed: Do Not Enter—Construction.
