1 ASSESSMENT STRATEGY
1.1 Assessment ModelThe external assessment will be conducted through a combination of written examination, supporting
evidence and demonstration of practical tasks and will be marked by registered assessors. The
written examination and practical assessment will be conducted over a maximum period of two
working days.
During written and practical assessments, the learner must demonstrate knowledge and
understanding of Hazard identification, MEWP operations and transportation of MEWPs. A candidate
who attempted an external assessment will be given recognition for those assessment tasks in which
he/she has been found competent and not be retested in those tasks provided that:
1.1.1. The learner is competent in at least 80% of the knowledge and 100% practical tasks given
during the assessment.
1.1. 2. The recognition will be retained by the candidate for a maximum of 3 attempts or 3-months
from the date of successful completion of the assessment tasks whichever comes first.
1.2 Qualification PurposeThe purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as an/a Mobile Elevated Work
Platform Specialist
An/A Mobile Elevated Work Platform Specialist oversees, manages and controls all aspects of
elevating platform practices including, operation, application determination, transportation, safety
considerations and all relevant and applicable work at height applications.
A qualified learner will be able to:
Assess and mitigate identified hazards and resultant risks
Manage mobile elevated work platform (MEWP) operations
Manage the transportation of a MEWP

3 CRITICAL ASPECTS OF THE INTERNAL ASSESSMENTS TO BE ASSESSED EXTERNALLY All associated assessment criteria listed in the curriculum and assessed internally will enable the
learner to complete the external integrated summative assessment successfully. The following
critical aspects will be assessed externally:
The ability to identify hazards and risks to minimise potential damage to people and/or property
The ability to inspect the work area and personal protective equipment for safe operations
The ability to perform set-up, operations and shutdown procedures on a Mobile Boom, Mobile
Vertical, Static Boom, Static Vertical, Push-Around Vertical and Super Boom MEWP
The ability to select type of transport and Load and off-load MEWP
The ability to secure a MEWP
4 CRITERIA FOR THE REGISTRATION OF ASSESSORS At least 5 years' experience in the industry
Be a qualified MEWP Specialist
Have successfully completed a recognised assessor training course
Have experience in assessment and moderation
