AUGUST 2020 Roe Highway and Kalamunda Road Interchange Construction update Bridge barriers installed and approach roads paved; advanced notice of significant detour Further project milestones were achieved in late July and early August, including the installation of permanent barriers on the new bridge and completion of the bulk earthworks and pavements for the Kalamunda Road approaches. Bridge works Work crews completed the installation of 37 permanent edge barriers, which were lifted into position using a 60 tonne crane. During August, works will focus on completing the water-proofing and asphalting on top of the deck, and on Kalamunda Road leading into the bridge. By late- August, we will be able to open a section of the bridge and switch Kalamunda Road traffic from the current alignment onto the new structure. We will then start excavating the redundant section of Kalamunda Road, before connecting the new Roe Highway carriageways underneath. This significant milestone will necessitate a change in our traffic management arrangement and a closure of right turn access from Roe Highway northbound to Kalamunda Road eastbound will be in put in place for approximately 12 weeks. Additional information and extensive signage will be displayed in advance. Please find a detour map overleaf. AUGUST 2020

Roe Highway and Kalamunda Road InterchangeConstruction update

Bridge barriers installed and approach roads paved; advanced notice of significant detour

Further project milestones were achieved in late July and early August, including the installation of permanent barriers on the new bridge and completion of the bulk earthworks and pavements for the Kalamunda Road approaches.

Bridge works Work crews completed the installation of 37 permanent edge barriers, which were lifted into position using a 60 tonne crane.

During August, works will focus on completing the water-proofing and asphalting on top of the deck, and on Kalamunda Road leading into the bridge. By late-August, we will be able to open a section of the bridge and switch Kalamunda Road traffic from the current alignment onto the new structure.

Principal Shared Path (PSP) upgradeWorks are progressing well on upgrading the additional 400m section of path between the end of the newly constructed PSP, and the Berkshire Road interchange. During July, the pavement sub-base and light poles were completed along the PSP. August works will focus on placing asphalt on the pavement, followed by fencing and finishing works.

Change in Kalamunda Road alignment – early-September August 2020By early-September, the new section of Kalamunda Road westbound carriageway, between David Street and the bridge, will be ready for traffic. We will have laid the asphalt, installed the light poles and constructed footpaths on this section of road.

At the same time, we will also have traffic on sections of the new roundabout on the eastern side of the bridge, and the new Roe Highway southbound on-ramp. When these new sections are open to traffic, there will also be a temporary entrance to the Hillview Public Golf Course, directly off the new roundabout.

Major traffic detour – early-September 2020 until November 2020

Page 2: Home | Main Roads Western Australia - Roe Highway and ... · Web viewIn early-September 2020, works will be undertaken over two consecutive nights to enable the traffic switch onto

Until early-September vehicles, are not able to turn left onto Roe Highway from Kalamunda Road heading west. Traffic is currently detoured via Hawtin Road, Maida Vale Road to Roe Highway (see map below left).

Starting early-September, vehicles will no longer be able to turn right into Kalamunda Road from Roe Highway heading north. Traffic will be detoured via Maida Vale and Priory Roads (see map below right). We have been working closely with the City of Kalamunda to coordinate the timing of this change with the City’s proposed works on Maida Vale Road, to ensure that both sets of works are scheduled to minimise impacts on road users and local residents. This arrangement will be in place for 12 weeks.

Advanced notice of out of hoursTraffic switch onto new bridge: In early-September 2020, works will be undertaken over two consecutive nights to enable the traffic switch onto the new bridge. Works will start at 7pm and be finished by 7am. Confirmed dates will be communicated when they are available.

Minor works: Some intermittent night works may be required to safely undertake smaller sections of works. Out of hours work may be undertaken from 7pm to 7am between Saturday 1 August to Monday 31 August.
