Monday Reading

Everyday Calculations-counting objects to 10/20

Show your child the previously taught tricky words below. Point to each word and ask them to say the word. If they don’t know it, just say the word and ask your child to repeat it:

PHONICS- Learn the ‘oo’ sound (long vowel) ***Please use the daily phonics powerpoint provided to guide you. (you can find this resource in the home learning drive)

Ordering by height and length Go over the ordering by height and length powerpoint in the home learning drive. Talk to your child about the meaning of both words. Have a go at ordering the animals on the powerpoint. Now find some items around your house to order by length and height.

UTW: People and Communities –Theme: Africa Today, you will be comparing two lifestyles; your life in Leicester and life in Africa. Look at the Powerpoint on the home learning drive and answer the questions on the slides.

Tuesday Reading

Everyday Calculations-recognising numbers 1-20 Show the children the following words: ‘some’, ‘this’ Parents point to the word ‘some’ and say it 3 times in a normal voice, ask your child to copy you. Then repeat 3 times in a high voice (ch’n copy), low voice (ch’n copy), whisper voice (ch’n copy) Repeat all of this with the word ‘this’.

2d shape models Go over the 2d shape powerpoint with your child. Can your child remember the shape names and can they talk about the sides and corners? Using the build a model powerpoint encourage your child to create fun and exciting pictures using the different shapes. Keep asking your child to name and describe the shapes they are using. To end play the what shape am I game. Guess the shape by reading the clues. All powerpoints can be found in the home learning drive.

EAD – Exploring & Using Media & Materials Use a variety of resources to build a hut.

Look for more information on the home learning drive. It can be a small model or a hut in the garden, big enough for you to fit in! Have fun!

Missing number Look at the missing number powerpoint in the home learning drive. Complete the number patterns by moving the missing numbers into the correct places. RE –Theme: What are our favourite things about nature? Go on a listening walk outside - what natural sounds can you hear? Be silent, close your eyes and listen. Say or draw what you can hear – the singing of birds? The rustling of leaves? The whooshing of the wind? How do you feel when you hear these sounds?

Thursday Reading Everyday Calculations-find 1 more on a number line (up to 20) Show the children the following words: ‘some’, ‘this’ Ask your child to look at the word, say the word, cover the word, write the word. Repeat this until they can write it independently. Do the same for both of the tricky words.

Estimating. Estimate means having a sensible guess. Talk to your child about this word. Show your child the estimating sweets in a jar powerpoint in the home learning drive. Let them look at the sweets in the jar for roughly 3 seconds. Then cover the screen up. Ask your child to ‘estimate’ how many sweets they think there are. Remind them that estimate means a sensible guess. Once your child has given their estimate ask them to count the sweets to get the actual amount. Key questions: before estimating What does estimate mean? Do you think it will be a large number or a small number? Why? After estimating:

Art- Create an African necklace

Follow the instructions on the home learning drive to make a beautiful African necklace, experimenting with design and colour. Can you make different ones for members of your family?

Reading Alien and Real words. Read the words, decide if they are real words or alien words and then sort them into the correct place. ***Please use the powerpoint provided to guide you. (you can find this resource in the home learning drive)

Capacity Go over the capacity flash cards in the home learning drive. Talk to your child about each word and help them understand what they mean. Key vocabulary Full Empty Half full Nearly full Nearly empty Now have a look at the activity powerpoint. Can you;

1) Put the labels under the correct containers to show how full they are.

2) Order the containers from full to empty. To end: have a go at the capacity game.
