Home learning – Foundation Class – Summer Term 2020 Week beginning Monday 11 th May 2020 Hi Foundation! How are you all getting on – I hope that last week was a good one for you all. Here is another learning pack – I hope that you find some things you enjoy doing together. I have really enjoyed hearing from lots of you and seeing some of the great things you have been doing at home. Well done to everyone who has learnt to ride their bikes without stabilisers this week! I wonder if you had a go at Mrs. Bargewell’s challenges last week? The Mouse Family have been busy in the kitchen this week – they were excited to see Mrs. Connor’s amazing baking last week so have tried out a couple of recipes for themselves. Here is a photo of them trying out Cheesy Jacket Potatoes. Maybe you could have a go at doing some cooking together. When you have tried something you like, you could write out the recipe, or take a photo, add a picture of how yours turned out and we might be able to put them all together in a Foundation Class Recipe Book. If you do decide to cook together, remember to be safe and wash your hands carefully too! Here’s a note from Mrs. Bargewell… Hi Everyone, I hope you are all safe and well. This week’s challenge relates to VE day which is on 8 th May… hope you enjoy it if you choose to have a go. I have been busy again this week just like last week. Catching up with things on my allotment… still trying to cook new things… and still sorting at my house! Hope you are doing some learning each day but still finding time for lots of fun! Take care, stay safe, keep smiling … and miss you all. Love from Mrs. Bargewell Literacy learning

Home learning – Foundation Class – Summer Term 2020Week beginning Monday 11 th May 2020

Hi Foundation! How are you all getting on – I hope that last week was a good one for you all. Here is another learning pack – I hope that you find some things you enjoy doing together. I have really enjoyed hearing from lots of you and seeing some of the great things you have been doing at home. Well done to everyone who has learnt

to ride their bikes without stabilisers this week! I wonder if you had a go at Mrs. Bargewell’s challenges last week?

The Mouse Family have been busy in the kitchen this week – they were excited to see Mrs. Connor’s amazing baking last week so have tried out a couple of recipes for themselves. Here is a photo of them trying out Cheesy

Jacket Potatoes.

Maybe you could have a go at doing some cooking together. When you have tried something you like, you could write out the recipe, or take a photo, add a picture of how yours turned out and we might be able to put them all together in a Foundation Class Recipe Book. If you do decide to cook together, remember to be safe and wash

your hands carefully too!

Here’s a note from Mrs. Bargewell…

Hi Everyone,I hope you are all safe and well. This week’s challenge relates to VE day which is on 8th May… hope you enjoy it if you choose to have a go. I have been busy again this week just like last week. Catching up with things on my allotment… still trying to cook new things… and still sorting at my house! Hope you are doing some learning each day but still finding time for lots of fun! Take care, stay safe, keep smiling … and miss you all. Love from Mrs. Bargewell

Literacy learning

I wonder if you all have a favourite Teddy Bear? Maybe you have some stories that you enjoy reading which are about bears too? This week, you could try finding a Bear story – I know that Mrs. Clarke enjoys ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. There are lots of others but some you might like and have at home could include: This is the Bear by Sarah Hayes, Whatever Next by Jill Murphy, Can’t you sleep little bear? By Martin Waddell, Little bear’s trousers by Jane Hissey, or a version of Goldilocks and the three bears. You may have some other bear stories too. When you have read your bear story, you could try making a story map like we have in school before. Try drawing the different parts of the story and use a road or path way to join them together. You might be able to make a large one so that you could ‘play’ the story with some toys like in this picture:

Using our symbols to help you (at the end of the learning pack), try writing your own ‘bear’ story. I wonder how it will start – once upon a time, one sunny morning, or maybe … one dark, stormy night…? Another fun activity to try is to make some speech bubbles and encourage the children to write down what the different characters might be saying in their story. There is a page with speech bubbles if you want some to print off at the end of the learning pack.

Mathematics: It was good to hear how some of you have been using coins and money at home – keep finding new ways to use coins this week too, maybe for counting in 2’s, 5’s or 10’s ? Keep practising counting skills every day and try writing numbers using the number track to help you – check to see if you have them the right way round. You could use paper and pen, chalk outside, a whiteboard, water and a paintbrush on the path or fence – whatever you have – you could even try using your finger on someone else’s back to trace the number.

Counting on from a number when adding more…

We can all add two small groups of items by counting all of them to see how many there are altogether. Next steps are to find out the total by counting on from the first number. Here are some ideas of things you can do together to support your child, when they are ready, to move from counting all items to find a total to counting on from a number to find a total. Use the number track to help too – e.g. to find out 3 + 4, start on the 3 and count on 4 spaces – remember to count each jump to see where you end up. You could play some games with a number track like snakes and ladders too, counting on from the space you landed on last turn.

If you don’t have a dice, you could make some number cards and pick one at random to find the number to add on. Or, you may want to look for a dice app if you have a device to hand.

Why not try another investigation this week.

Light and shadows

You could begin by making a den, or perhaps you have a play tent already at home. Use a torch to shine and experiment with making shadows. Think and talk about

What happens in the dark How the shadows are made Where you need to shine the

torch to make the best shadows Can you make a shadow of

yourself in the den? Can you make a shadow of

yourself outside?

You could try recording your learning together either by drawing pictures and adding labels to show what happened or maybe try taking a photograph. Can you make a shape, animal or maybe a famous landmark?

Hope you are keeping active and busy. This week why not try out the art activities below – make some brushes out of unusual things you have around the house or in the garden. You will need to use strong fingers to make sure they are secure before you use them.

For something a bit more energetic why not try Mr. Ward’s work outs. There are links on the school website. Go to the Well-being Hub, click on Fitness and there are some videos to choose from. Maybe you can all do them together?

Maybe you will go for a bike ride with your family … I wonder if you can do it without stabilisers yet? Be resilient, keep trying!

Have fun and stay active.

The Mouse Family have been trying to stay active too – carefully balancing in an egg and spoon race!

Learning to skip …

and playing hopscotch…

Did you try out some of the calm down activities from last week? I wonder which one you like the best – maybe you have made up your own that you could teach someone else.

This week, try to think about things that you love to do that are relaxing and fun and that make you feel happy. It is important for us all to take time to enjoy doing things, sometimes on our own, sometimes with other people. One thing I find relaxing is cooking so I am planning to try out some new recipes likeMrs. Bargewell and the Mouse Family have been doing.

I wonder if you will try some cooking together? Maybe you enjoy doing other things to relax.Perhaps you could try something new and record with pictures, writing or photos what you have done.

Here are some ideas of things you might try:

baking some biscuitslistening to some musicdancing togethersharing a favourite bookdrawing or painting a picturesome careful colouringmaking something using fabric, wood, recycled materials

This week, try making a picture of you teddy bear. You could draw, paint, colour with pens or pencils, use potatoes to print, use a fork to make furry marks

or you may have some other ideas. Why not try using a cotton bud to make a ‘dotty’ bear. You could also make some paintbrushes using unusual things like in the picture below. Have a look

around the garden or use some recycled packaging to fix onto a stick or a clothes peg if you have some. I have used a piece of card from a cardboard box too and that works as well. You could try different things to see what kind of marks you can make – which ones are best for a picture of a

teddy bear I wonder? I think I might try using a pom pom print to make his eyes and nose. Looking forward to seeing some of your teddy bear pictures soon!

If you need some more ideas you could look at CBeebies for programmes such as Numberblocks – great for exploring numbers and mathematical ideas. The government academy learning site has some good activities too – go to https://www.thenational.academy/ - then look for ‘scheduled’ lessons and ‘Reception’. There are some useful resources which guide and support learning together for a range of areas of development.

Most of all, take each day as it comes and focus on what your children seem keen and interested in doing. There is no pressure for you to complete the above suggestions – it is most important that you have fun together as learning takes place through play and having fun together. Remember too, the new well-being hub on the school website – there are a range of resources to help and support you and your families and links to some great workouts by Mr. Ward to join in with.

It has been great hearing from lots of you and seeing some of the amazing learning you have been doing together at home. If you would like to be in touch for any reason, just to catch up, share photos of things you have been doing together, ask questions or need support with something, then please do either e-mail me at [email protected] or get in touch with school at the usual office e-mail address ([email protected] ) or give the office a ring on the usual number - 01202 659179Take care, stay safe and healthy and have fun together. The Foundation Team

Read Write Inc set 1 and set 2 sounds – we use these in school to help the children to recall any sounds they find it hard to remember.

Remember to ake a look at the Ruth Miskin website (Read Write Inc) if you would like support with phonics. Carry on watching the daily phonics by Ruth Miskin if you get a chance. https://www.ruthmiskin.com/en/

Here are the symbols we use in school to help us remember the process of writing. Help your child to use them to write in lots of different contexts.

Speech Bubbles … Here are some speech bubbles for you to use if you would like to. You might try writing something that one of the characters says in a story you have read. Maybe you could write something that your teddy bear might say when you have drawn or painted them.
