From the Dog House Tonal - Red (B), cut:• (3) 3 ½” x WOF strips. Sew the strips together end to end with diagonal seams and cut (2) 3 ½” x 43 ½” strips.• (2) 2 ½” x 29 ½” WOF strips.• (2) 3 ¼” x WOF strips. Sub-cut (16) 3 ¼” squares. Cut each 3 ¼” square across both diagonals to make (64) small triangles.

From the Dog House Tonal - Cream (C), cut:• (3) 2 ⅞” x WOF strips. Sub-cut (32) 2 ⅞” squares. Cut each 2 ⅞” square across one diagonal to make (64) large triangles.

From the Houndstooth Basics - Rose (D), cut:• (2) 3 ¼” x WOF strips. Sub-cut (16) 3 ¼” squares. Cut each 3 ¼” square across both diagonals to make (64) small triangles.

From the Dog House Multi - Blue (Backing), cut:• (2) 66” x WOF strips for the backing. Sew the strips together and trim to make the 66” x 84” back.

Sewing Instructions1. Sew (1) 3 ½” x 43 ½” Fabric B strip to each side of the 23 ½” x 43 ½” Fabric A panel. Sew (1) 2 ½” x 29 ½” Fabric B strip to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric A panel to make the Center Block (Fig. 1). Trim block to measure 28 ½” x 46 ½”.

2. Sew (1) Fabric B small triangle to (1) Fabric D small triangle to make (1) BD triangle. Pay attention to the triangle orientations. Sew the BD triangle to (1) Fabric C large triangle, long sides together, to make (1) Unit 1 square (Fig. 2). Trim unit to measure 2 ½”. Repeat to make (64) Unit 1 squares total.

4. Sew (1) 2” x 2 ½” Fabric H strip to each side of (1) 1 ½” x 2 ½” Fabric I strip to make (1) Unit 2 strip (Fig. 4). Repeat to make (8) Unit 2 strips total.

5. Sew (1) 2” x 3” Fabric H strip to each side of (1) 1 ½” x 3” Fabric I strip to make (1) Unit 3 strip (Fig. 5). Repeat to make (8) Unit 3 strips total.

3. Sew (2) Unit 1 squares together to make (1) Block Row. Pay attention to the unit orientations. Repeat to make a second Block Row. Pay attention to the unit orientations. Sew together the (2) Block Rows, long sides together, to make (1) Block One square (Fig. 3). Pay attention to the row orientations. Repeat to make (16) Block One squares total.

6. Place (1) 2 ½” Fabric F square on the left side of (1) 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric E strip, right sides together (Fig. 6). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 6). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle leaving a ¼” seam allowance (Fig. 7).

7. Place another 2 ½” Fabric F square on the right side of the 2 ½” x 4 ½” Fabric E strip, right sides together (Fig. 8). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 8). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 9). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle leaving a ¼” seam allowance to make (1) Unit 4 strip. Repeat to make (16) Unit 4 strips total.

8. Repeat Steps 6-7 and refer to Figures 10-11 for fabric identification and placement to make (8) Unit 5 strips and (8) Unit 6 strips.

9. Sew (1) Unit 4 strip to the top of (1) Unit 2 strip to make (1) Block Two square (Fig. 12). Repeat to make (8) Block Two squares total.

10. Sew (1) Unit 4 strip to the top of (1) Unit 3 strip, long sides together. Sew (1) Unit 5 strip to the top of the Unit 4 strip. Sew (1) Unit 6 strip to the top of the Unit 5 strip to make (1) Block Three strip (Fig. 13). Repeat to make (8) Block Three strips total.

Quilt Top Assembly (Refer to the Quilt Layout while assembling.)18. Sew together (4) Block Three strips and (3) Block One squares, alternating them, to make (1) Inner Side Border Strip. Repeat to make a second Inner Side Border Strip. Sew (1) Inner Side Border Strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew together (5) Block One squares and (4) Block Two squares, alternating them, to make (1) Inner Top Border Strip. Repeat to make (1) Inner Bottom Border Strip. Sew (1) Inner Top Border Strip and (1) Inner Bottom Border Strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

19. Sew (1) 2 ½” x 54 ½” Fabric K strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 2 ½” x 40 ½” Fabric K strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.

20. Sew (1) 9 ½” x 58 ½” Fabric L strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) Block Four square to the left side of (1) 9 ½” x 40 ½” Fabric L strip. Pay attention to the block orientation. Sew (1) Block Five square to the right side of the Fabric L strip to make (1) Outer Top Border Strip. Pay attention to the block orientation. Sew the Outer Top Border Strip to the top of the Center Block. Pay attention to the border strip orientation. Sew (1) Block Six square to the left side of (1) 9 ½” x 40 ½” Fabric L strip. Pay attention to the block orientation. Sew (1) Block Seven square to the right side of the Fabric L strip to make (1) Outer Bottom Border Strip. Pay attention to the block orientation. Sew the Outer Bottom Border Strip to the bottom of the Center Block to make the quilt top. Pay attention to the border strip orientation.

21. Layer and quilt as desired.

22. Sew the (7) 2 ½” x WOF Fabric O strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.

23. Bind as desired.

11. Sew (1) 3 ¼” x 9 ½” Fabric F strip to the top of (1) 1 ¼” x 9 ½” Fabric E strip, long sides together. Sew (1) 3 ¼” x 9 ½” Fabric J strip to the top of the Fabric F strip. Sew (1) 3 ¼” x 9 ½” Fabric K strip to the top of the Fabric J strip to make (1) Unit 7 square (Fig. 14). Repeat to make (4) Unit 7 squares total.

12. Following the manufacturer’s instructions to trace the listed number of each template onto the paper side of the fusible web. Roughly cut out each template about 1/8” outside the drawn lines. Press each template onto the wrong side of the fabrics as listed on the templates. Cut out each template on the drawn lines.

15. Repeat Steps 13-14 and refer to Figures 16-18 for fabric identification and placement to make (1) Block Five square, (1) Block Six square and (1) Block Seven square.

16. Press fusible web to the back of the Fabric M piece and fussy cut (4) dogs. Refer to the Cover Image and applique (1) dog into each of the doorways found in Block Four through Block Seven.

17. Finish the raw edges of each dog with a decorative stitch such as a buttonhole or satin stitch.

13. Refer to Figure 15 to arrange and press (1) Fabric K House #1, (1) Fabric N Roof #1 and (1) Fabric N Doorway #1 onto (1) Unit 7 square to make (1) Block Four square.

14. Finish the raw edges of each shape with a decorative stitch such as a buttonhole or satin stitch.
