FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Carers,
Our first term this year has been filled with great learning and celebration. I would like to thank you for your openness to
working in partnership with us to provide the wonderful learning outcomes for your children. I would also like to thank our
staff for their commitment and professionalism and thank our students for their constructive and life-giving contributions that
not only enrich their own learning journey, but our shared learning journey.
Connecting and Disconnecting Habits
One of the great things I have noticed about our community since joining has been the great way in which members of all ages
use the connecting habits to research, solve problems, investigate, restore friendships, create new understandings and stretch
their thinking. These connecting habits are:
Supporting
Encouraging
Listening
Accepting
Trusting
Respecting
Negotiating Differences
By using these habits, members of our community are experiencing success and developing deeper connections which create
longer lasting successes.
The following habits are disconnecting and lead to a break down in relationships resulting in less desirable outcomes. These
disconnecting habits are:
Criticising
Blaming
Complaining
Nagging
Threatening
Punishing
Bribing/rewarding to control
The great things is, these can be replaced with the connecting habits to produce wonderful results which are life-giving for
everyone.
I would like to offer my thanks to you all for the way in which you have been practicing these connecting habits across our
community. Thank you for contributing to the success of this wonderful community. The way in which we can use the
connecting habits to greet each other, enter learning spaces, wait for our children, discuss challenges makes a great difference.
Mid-Year Intake
We are looking forward to welcoming our mid-year intake Reception children to Antonio very soon through our Early Explorers
sessions being facilitated by Ms. Louise Akerman. It is not too late for other young children to join us, as long as they are
turning five by 31st October, so let your friends know and ask them to call us ASAP on 8325 4500.
Pregnancy, Babies and Children’s Expo
If you are attending the Expo or know someone else who is, be sure to stop in and say hello at the Catholic Education SA stall
this weekend. I will be there on Saturday morning along with other CESA staff who will be there across the weekend. The stall
will be able to provide information to families considering their child’s education now and in the near future.
Front and Back Gates Opening and Closing Times
Our gates and fences at Antonio are there to help us provide a safe and secure environment. From 8.30am onwards we
welcome children, parents and carers on site who are not using our Before School Care program.
Our front and back gates will be open from 8.30am when staff are on duty in the grounds. Both gates are then locked by
9.00am and access can be gained through the front office.
On assembly mornings, the back gate will be locked following assembly.
At the end of the school day, the back gate will be open at 2.45pm for parents and carers to enter and pick up the children
when they finish at 3.05pm.
Holy Week and Easter
Thank you to all of our children and their teachers who have been helping us to reflect on the events of Holy Week and Easter.
This time of the year is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how we can be caring and serving towards others in our
community and beyond. It is truly wonderful to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, a community that cares for us,
challenges us and helps us to stretch ourselves and grow. We are all invited to join our parish community to celebrate Holy
Week and Easter in the coming days. The times and venues for these celebrations are included in this newsletter.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful Easter break with your families and friends. May this sacred
time of the year be enjoyable, rich and blessed.
Thank you for all of your contributions to our wonderful community during term 1 and we look forward to seeing you again
and achieving great things as a community in Term 2 and beyond.

APRIM NEWS
It’s hard to believe it’s the end of first term already. During LENT this term we have as learning
community had a focus on the life of Jesus. Jesus who lived over 2000 years ago and said and
did such amazing things, millions of people around the world remember and honour him still.
As a part of our Catholic Tradition we have been learning about different parts of Holy Week
and explored some the important lessons Jesus taught us including welcoming, sharing,
inclusion, justice, resilience, courageousness, compassion and forgiveness. During this time of
LENT we have prayed for God’s help to grow as people who are loving and forgiving, who value
friendships and who try to be helpful and hopeful.
When we listen to the Easter story we can reflect on the ways different people in the story acted. Some were cruel
and some were compassionate.
When Jesus was on trial, some people shouted `Crucify him, crucify him’ and others who had seen Jesus heal the sick
and include those that no one else cared for, new he had done nothing wrong and prayed for him to be set free.
The Governor, Pontius Pilate was afraid of the angry people, he did not want Jesus to die and washed his hands to
show he had nothing to do with it.
Should he have used his power to save Jesus?
He should have done the right thing but his fear stopped him.
We can pray for help that we might notice those in need and act for those who need help.
Even though the people in power thought that Jesus was a trouble maker and a threat, Jesus did not stop doing what
he thought was right.
We can remember pray for the people in our world today who help those in need and work for what is right and who
don’t give up.
The rising of Jesus 2000 years ago expressed a hope beyond what was imaginable. It is a story that compels us to
share this ‘good news’ of Jesus – a healthy way of living and being with one another and a way of holding on to and
imagining hope.
Jesus story is a promise and spirit of HOPE and with this spirit we share the message of New Life as ‘Easter people’.
We can have an impact for goodness by being and acting in hope-filled ways.
I hope you had the opportunity to come and share parts of this story in the Antonio Learning Community.
During the holiday break on Easter Sunday we remember with JOY, Jesus resurrection and new life. Attached is the
timetable of Easter masses and events in our parish that you might like to take part in.
COME and CELEEBRATE with us, this timeless story, Easter and the resurrection on the first Monday back 29th April,
after the holidays at 10.30am in the school gym.
Have a happy, safe and blessed time over the school holiday break.
Yours prayerfully,
Lillian Van Brussel (APRIM Assistant Principal Religious Identity and Mission)
