SAINT ANNE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH BRISTOL, VIRGINIA March 20, 2016 Remember St. Anne’s in your Will and Trusts
As we have our palm branches blessed, let us think about
our homes where they will be displayed. For we bless not
only these palms, but the lives to which they will bear
witness in the coming year. Carry your branch high today
as a sign of the Christian life that you live, praising the
Lord every day!

EASTER SUNDAY
Acts 10:34a, 37-43
Peter is an eyewitness: The Lord is risen.
Colossians 3:1-4
All who are baptized, set your hearts in heaven.
Luke 24:1-12
Why search for the dead?
Today the dead have been raised!
The Easter scriptures each tell the story of the Resurrection
from a different perspective. Saint Peter in the reading from
the Acts of the Apostles tells us how the Resurrection
inspired the early Church, and Saint Paul offers his
recommendations for how to respond to the Resurrection in
our own lives. The Gospel simply relates the story of the
empty tomb and leaves each of us with a question to
ponder: What does it mean to you that Christ is risen from
the dead?

enters Jerusalem, a community he knew well. CRS Rice

communities, to find those who are hungry and thirsty,
those who need our help. How does our Lenten journey
motivate us to serve those we encounter in our daily lives?

good work of CRS. Rice bowls, with your Lenten

walk with me in my faith journey. Amen.
Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
Liturgy Notes for Holy Week…
Palm or Passion Sunday has contrasting names, one
because of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the other
because this Sunday begins our focus on Jesus’ days of
suffering and death.
Paschal Triduum, from the Latin for “three days” extends
from evening Holy Thursday through Easter Sunday.
Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m.
includes the priest washing the feet of 12 parishioners, as
Jesus washed his disciples’ feet. This Mass also
commemorates the institution of the Holy Eucharist (at the
Last Supper). At the conclusion of the Holy Thursday Mass,
the Blessed Sacrament will remain at the Altar of Repose
until 11 p.m. We invite you to spend time with our Lord in
prayer this night.
Good Friday marks the events of Jesus’ trial, crucifixion,
death and burial. We will pray the Stations of the Cross at
12n and gather at 7p for a Good Friday service which
includes veneration of the cross and Holy Communion.
Easter Vigil is celebrated on Holy Saturday after sundown
and includes the blessing of the new fire and water, and the
celebration of baptism and confirmation for our new
members.
Easter, named after an ancient spring festival, is the “great
Sunday”, on which each Sunday Eucharist is modeled.
REMEMBER—Mass Times next weekend are different!!
Holy Saturday Easter Vigil: 8:30PM
Easter: 8:30a, 10:30a, 12:30p & Spanish at 2:30p
