Holy Spirit Church Family Welcomes Fr. Thomas De Dang Nguyen!!! Fr. Thomas was born in Central Vietnam and grew up in South Vietnam. His vocation began at the tender age of 11 when he entered a Cistercian Jun-ior Seminary. Although he graduated from the University of Saigon in Phi-losophy and Theology in 1979, Fr. Thomas was unable to receive the Sacra-ment of Holy Orders due to the communist regime. In fact, he was impris-oned because of his priestly vocation.

Fr. Thomas escaped Vietnam to Rome with sponsorship from the Holy See at the end of 1980. On June 6, 1982, he was ordained by Pope Saint John Paul

II at St. Peter’s Basilica. Fr. Thomas continued his studies and received a doctorate degree in Dogmatic Theology and a licentiate in Philosophy.

The warm weather of Southern California brought him to the Diocese of Orange in 1998. We are pleased and honored that he is now part of the Holy Spirit Church Family. Please welcome him as he carries out his pastoral duties and the priestly mission entrusted to him by Our Lord and Bishop Vann.

HEALING MASS

Who: Fr. Benjamin Tran and Fr. Daniel Wilder What: A Healing Mass When: Monday, July 13, 2015, with Praise and Worship at 6:30pm and Mass at 7:00pm. Where: Holy Spirit Church, Fountain Valley Why: To receive God’s grace, healing, & love! How: Just Come! Questions? Call Ruth Vinson at (714) 585-6814 or Pat Rensing at (714) 878-3109

1st Reading: Amos said, “The LORD took me from following the flock, and said to me, Go, prophesy to my people” (Amos 7:12-15).

Psalm: Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your sal-vation (Psalm 85). 2nd Reading: The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing (Ep. 1:3-14)

Gospel: Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two (Mk. 6:7-13).

SENT BY GOD: In Amos’ time the vocation of prophet had achieved a very formal status in Israel. The prophets had arisen, origi-nally, to act as God’s voice when Israel was no longer led by the spiritual/civil figures known as “judges,” but by mon-archs. Over time, the monarchy had appropriated the offices of priest and prophet, established them into companies, and reserved the right to appoint courtly prophets. Then, as now, when those in power also got to choose who would act as their official conscience, things sometimes went awry. At such times, God raised up prophets from unlikely places, and this is how Amos received his vocation as prophet. In last week’s Gospel we heard how Jesus was raised up as God’s anointed from a place many viewed as unlikely. As we continue to discern our own vocation as baptized disci-ples, we can be assured that we are, in Paul’s words, “chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the One who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will” (Ephesians 1:11).
