California Missions Tour WITH HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC CHURCH -Diocese of Lubbock- June 16 Our pilgrimage begins this morning as we depart for a flight to San Diego, California where our Canterbury host, pilgrimage chaplain, tour director, and motor-coach driver will meet and greet us. On our way to Mission San Diego de Alcala, known as the “Mother of the Alta California Missions”. We will tour the Mission and celebrate Mass. Before dinner, we’ll enjoy a tour of the largest Mission founded, the Mission San Luis Rey de Francía, also known as the “King of the Missions”. Overnight Oceanside (Dinner) June 17 We set off to visit Mission San Juan Capistrano, named after the 14th century theologian, one of the most picturesque sites in all of California. We continue on to visit the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles in Alhambra where the sisters will serve us lunch. Next, we visit the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel, nicknamed the“Pride of the Missions” followed by a drive to Ventura for dinner. Overnight Ventura (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) June 18 Morning visit at the Mission San Buenaventura, named after St. Bonaventure. We then visit the Mission Santa Barbara, known as the “Queen of the Missions.” Following a break for lunch, we’ll enjoy the lovely city of Santa Barbara and afterwards, we’ll proceed to the unique city of Solvang, where the old world charm of Northern Europe meets the blue skies of Southern California. Overnight Solvang (Breakfast) June 19 We depart the Santa Barbara area for San Luis Obispo. Before saying farewell to Solvang, we’ll enjoy a drive by of the Mission Santa Ines, followed by our drive north to visit the Mission San Luis Obispo. We’ll spend leisure time in Morro Bay, the Gibraltar of the Pacific. Here, we’ll find miles of unspoiled beaches and nature trails to roam. We’ll view his sarcophagus as well as that of three of his fellow missionaries. This afternoon we will enjoy the beautiful 17-Mile Drive which takes us through coastline and the Pebble Beach Resort. This evening we will have leisure time for dinner down at the Cannery row in Monterey. Overnight Monterey (Breakfast & Dinner) June 21 This morning we travel north to visit the Mission Santa Cruz, an active participant in the Parish of St. Joseph. We break for lunch, then proceed to visit the Mission San Francisco de Asís. We cap the day with some leisure time for dinner in the Pier 39 area of San Francisco. Overnight San Francisco (Breakfast & Dinner) June 22 Our visit will continue into the famed Sonoma Wine Region and Marin County area, where we’ll have the opportunity to visit Cline Cellars, a family-owned Napa winery located on the original Sonoma Mission site. After our visit, we’ll find the last of the originally established California Missions: the Mission San Francisco Solano, nestled in the wine country 40 miles north of San Francisco and across from the site of the Bear Flag Revolt of 1846. Our farewell dinner will follow this evening. Overnight San Francisco area (Breakfast & Dinner) June 23 With a renewed sense of pilgrimage and an invigorated love of our Catholic faith, we bid farewell to our fellow pilgrims and board our plane for the flight home.
