PREP PROGRAM REGISTRATION Holy Name of Jesus Parish PREP classes are held on Wednesdays, for all children who attend public, charter or non-Catholic school. Classes are held in St. Laurentius School from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. According to Archdiocesan guidelines, before a child receives the sacraments (First Penance, First Communion, or Confirmation) they must receive two (2) years of religious instruction prior to each sacrament.

Registration is open for all levels of PREP K-8. Registration fees are: $80.00 for one (1) child; $130.00 for two (2) children; and $50.00 for each additional child. This is payable at the time of registration and includes all classroom materials: text books for each child, the “Gospel Weekly” for each child, books specific to sacramental preparation as well as treats, snacks, and seasonal religious items and gifts throughout the year. (Advent and Lenten calendars, small gifts and treats, etc.) Registration forms can be obtained at the Rectory. If the child was not baptized at Holy Name of Jesus Church or St. Laurentius Church please provide a copy of the baptismal certificate. Today we conclude the Easter Season with the celebration of Pentecost, traditionally called the "Birthday of the Church." It was on this day that the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles and gave them the courage to teach the message of Jesus. The Church had its beginning, as thousands accepted the faith and were baptized. It was from this humble beginning that our Church came to life and has grown to what it is today. In our

celebration of this day, may we also recall our beginnings in the Church by remembering our Baptism and our parents who passed on the Catholic faith to us. Let us reflect about how we, too, have been chosen to spread the message of Jesus. If you were not here last week, I announced that I will be leaving Holy Name of Jesus Church on June 30th, due to health reasons. My cardiologist and primary doctor both recommended that I have my assignment changed due to the undue stress that I am experiencing. I met with Archbishop Chaput on Friday, May 30th, and received my new assignment to return to Saint John Cantius Parish in Bridesburg and be their pastor once again. There is sadness in parting but I have to do what is right for me and my health. I am no good to the Church or anyone by being in a cemetery. I feel I have many more years of service to God in me. Father John Sibel will be your new pastor. Father Sibel was ordained a priest in 1972. Graduation Mass and Commencement for the St. Laurentius Class of 2014 will take place in Holy Name of Jesus Church on Wednesday, June 11th, at 7:00 P.M. Everyone is invited to attend. Vacation time is upon us and, as school ends, we will be travelling to various destinations. Please don't forget to attend Mass on Sundays. If you are looking for a Catholic Church where you are vacationing, there is a website: www.MassTimes.org that lists every Church in the United States with a map of location, Mass times and telephone numbers. If you don’t have access to a computer, call the Rectory and my staff will be more than happy to help you. God has blessed us with the opportunity to go on vacation and to have a good time. At the same time, we need to be renewed in His love constantly and strengthened by the graces He gives us. Our bills continue to come every week during the summer months and our Sunday collections are very important. If you are away, please send your envelopes to the Rectory. I hope you looked closely at the financial report for the month of May that was printed these past two weeks and prayerfully consider the offering that you promised during the Appeal. If you did not see it, we have reprinted it below. We need your financial support as well as your physical presence in Church on Sunday. I realize that some of the above expenses are yearly ones, but nevertheless, they need to be paid! Medical insurance is not included above nor are some Church administrative costs. School staff and health benefits are paid from tuition that is collected.

FROM THE DEACON’S DESK St. Paul reminds us today that the Holy Spirit is given to the Church and to each individual Christian as well. Frequently, when we think of the work of the Holy Spirit, we select the extraordinary gifts of the Holy Spirit such as speaking in tongues and being gifted with healing or grand in inspiration. There are also the ordinary gifts of the Holy Spirit that we can easily overlook. These are the gifts that bring inner healing to the broken soul, the gift of the Holy Spirit that enables us to forgive, to have the power to be faithful to our promises and vows, the Spirit that can bring us back to a living faith, a renewed trust in God, the gift of the Holy Spirit that enables us to pray sincerely, honestly, powerfully. Secondly, the Holy Spirit is present not just in dramatic moments, in tongues of fire, but whenever we manifest courage in living the Gospel, when we open our heart in prayer, when we reach out to another, when we make wise choices, when we appreciate the magnificence of God’s presence, when we deepen our knowledge of the Lord. We probably memorized these ordinary gifts for our Confirmation; wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, piety, fortitude and fear of the Lord. The Holy Spirit really is, as we say in the Creed, the Lord and Giver of life to the Church and to our soul. Whatever dark things may be happening in your life or in the life of the Church, we need to remember that the Holy Spirit is there with “bright wings”, Christ’s magnificent Easter gift to you and me.

ST. LAURENTIUS SCHOOL At this time all tuitions should be paid in full. Within the next couple of weeks please pay your tuition through your Smart Tuition Account. Non-Smart payments may be made at the Holy Name of Jesus Rectory during normal business hours.

The St. Laurentius/Holy Name CYO is looking for responsible individuals for coaching (soccer, basketball, baseball, etc.) positions for the upcoming school year. PRINCIPAL’S CORNER Happy June, everyone! Down the street, we are very busy with end of the year activities, assessments, report cards, and paper work. Last Friday, the Home and School Association sponsored our annual Spirit Day. With blow up slides, large gerbil balls, sports challenges, a DJ, face painting, sand art, etc. and of course, food, a great afternoon of community was had by all. I want to sincerely thank Sue Feenan and all the parents who helped make this afternoon a special one for the children, families, and staff. Moving up ceremonies were held for our Pre-K and Kindergarten this week. Such promise for the future as our littlest ones smiled, sang, and showed off all that they have learned this year. 5th grade spent Wednesday afternoon at Penn Treaty Park for a day of history and picnicking. 6th and 7th grades attended a RiverSharks game in Camden on Thursday. Darn, they had to do Math activities, too! It’s all about tying concepts to the real world. Thursday night, our 8th graders enjoyed a light dinner and dance in the gym sponsored by the Home and School and the 8th grade parents. Their theme this year was a black and white Masquerade Ball. Teachers are busy checking assessments and finalizing grades. Our new online grading system is a great tool for report cards. Our last faculty meeting of the year was held Friday afternoon when we took the time to celebrate Mr. R, Sister Helen, and Mrs. Pierson. I’d like to sincerely thank all of our supporters this year. You have made a difference in children’s lives and thus the future of our Church and nation. One of our biggest supporters, Father Joe, is leaving us shortly. Father, on behalf of everyone down the street, Sto Lat and God’s blessings be upon you. We are happy you touched our lives and will miss you. Have a sun-filled week, everyone. Mrs. McKnight
