FAZtor ’s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora Welcome to all our Holy Name School family, especially the new teachers and new families, as we celebrate our Back-to-School Mass, also

called the Spirit Mass, this Sunday at 9:30AM. The Interna-onal Food Fes val will follow in the Gym right a er the mass.

I also wish to welcome three infants to our Catholic Faith as they receive the Sacrament of Bap sm in separate ceremo-nies that I will be administering on Saturday: Tama Palarca Tito at 10AM, Wesley and Wya Sunga at 11AM and Inez Al-varado at 12 noon. Welcome to our Chris an community! A very special welcome in heaven is extended by our lov-ing and merciful God to our long me and very ac ve parish-ioner John (Jack) Kiernan, who suddenly passed away a week ago in his home. Jack was a member of the Knights of HN, the HN Father’s Club, the Parish Council, and a member of our Monday Collec on Coun ng Group. Besides his 37 years work-ing for PG&E, Jack was also well-known for his involvement with St. Vincent de Paul Society, where he helped so many people. We always called Jack when someone came to our office asking for help. Like our new Saint Mother Teresa, Jack always had the heart for the poor, the homeless, the desolate and the disturbed. He was the epitome of a true Chris an and follower of Christ. He lived up to the meaning of his name: John, that means God is gracious or God’s graciousness. Jack’s Memorial Mass will be this Wednesday, September 14th at 11AM in our church. The same welcome is extended to Phillip Sigmund, Jr., HN Class ’76, who also passed away a er a long illness. Phillip is the son of our long me and faithful parishioner, Norma Sig-mund, and her late husband, Phillip, Sr. May they rest in peace! As heaven is our true home, they are homebound and are truly at home with our loving Father. As they are heaven bound, surely, they will find heavenly peace and joy. The Homebound Mass this weekend in the Flanagan Cen-ter should remind us of our final des na on as we are all pil-grims here on earth. We do not know what the future holds for us, but we know who holds us in the future. We are all homebound to the arms of our loving Father in heaven. “The older a man gets, the more ways he learns to part his hair. Some men pull what li le bit of hair they have around on their head to cover their baldness. However, as a man get even older, he realizes there are basically only three ways to wear his hair: parted, unparted, and departed.”

HOLY NAME LADIES AID COLLECTION PARISH BUILDING & MAINTENACE FUND

PRIESTS’ RETIREMENT FUND SPECIAL COLLECTION FOR LOUISIANA

Today, members of the Holy Name Ladies Aid will be col-lecting for the needy in the Parish. Boxes will be by the exits. Our Parish Building & Maintenance Fund collection will also collected today instead of September 24/25. Next weekend, September 17/18, our second collection is for the Priests’ Retirement Fund. On September 24/25, we will have a Special Collection for the flood victims in Louisiana. The recent storms in Louisiana may not have a name, but the names of those suffering in the wake of the worst flooding since Hurricane Katrina are our sisters and brothers. As a people of God, let us come to their aid. Catholics across the United States are asked to respond generously. Our prayer and material support is urgently needed to help rebuild lives. On September 24/25 there will be an emergency collection to support the humanitarian efforts of Catholic Charities USA and to provide pastoral and rebuilding support to im-pacted Catholic dioceses in Louisiana.

2016 PRIESTS RETIREMENT FUND Priesthood is a Gift from God

“We give thanks to God Always for all of you…” - Thessalonians 1:2

It begins with a call….a call from Christ. The blessings of a priest to our Catholic life of faith are boundless.

Our priests help us experience the abiding presence of the Lord Jesus. Priesthood is a lifelong vocation.

Whether active in the ministry or not, our retired priests make Christ present.

Every aspect of the life an ministry of a priest is a gift from God.

Two opportunities are available to show our gratitude to our retired priests for their many years of faithful service. 1. ) Make a generous gift to the Priests Retirement Fund Special Col-lection at Masses throughout the Archdiocese of San Francisco on September 17 and 18. You may also mail your gift to: Archdiocese of San Francisco—Priests Retirement Fund 1 Peter Yorke Way, San Francisco, CA 94109 2.) Sponsor the luncheon, attend and/or sponsor a retired priest to the Sixth Annual St. John Vianney Luncheon to be held on Friday, Octo-ber 28th at St. Mary’s Cathedral. By participating in one or both of these ways you help to provide finan-cial stability for our retired priests and you can assure future security for our active priests. For more information , for tickets and sponsor-ship to the Sixth Annual St. John Vianney Luncheon, please contact the Office of Development at (415) 614-5580 or email at [email protected]

RECONCILIATION True reconciliation is emotional, dramatic, and cleansing. When two people meet heart to heart and work through old hurts, misunderstandings, and careless words, cleansing tears often flow and the encounter ends with an embrace that fills both with the warmth of a love too strong to fade. The readings this weekend assure us of this healthy release that comes with reconciliation. They give us the courage to reach out to someone with whom we need to reconcile ourselves, and give us the courage to ask for forgiveness from God, too.

They were very busy last week and jumped right into their curriculum. UPCOMING EVENTS: We look forward to seeing you all at our Spirit Mass this Sunday at 9:30AM. Please join us for the International Food Fair afterwards. Holy Name's 75th School Anniversary is Saturday, September 24th from 1:30-7PM. EXCITING NEWS FOR HOLY NAME! * USF has donated a new SmartBoard and projector, and we are very thankful! We are still determining which classroom we will put this in, and we will let you know soon when we decide! * We've been selected as one of only 500 schools across the country to participate in an exciting school health program sponsored by Kinsa! Through the FLUency program, Kinsa will provide each family at our school with their award-winning Smart Thermometer for free ($20 value, sells at Target, CVS and other retailers) and will create a Holy Name School group where parents and the school can anony-mously share information related to symptoms and illnesses hitting our students. We will send home materials once the program starts in late September so that you can redeem your thermometer and start using our private group. We are very excited and proud to have been chosen to participate in this program, and look forward to a great, healthy school year! Enjoy the rest of your week. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you, Natalie Cirigliano, Principal A MESSAGE FROM FATHER ARNOLD We don't worry when our strength or endurance, wisdom or under-standing run out.
