SPIRITUAL VITAMIN FOR THE MONTH:
“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life:...” John 5:39.

YEAR 2017
THEME: THE FAITHFUL GOD DEUT. 7:9
God's choosing of Israel was motivated by His love for them (Deut, 7:7-8). Moreover, God promised to faithfully keep His covenant and show mercy to generation after generation of “them that love him and keep his commandments” (cf 6:4-9). Not only was God's love contingent upon this response of love and obedience, but also their prosperity (v13-14), good health, (v15), and military success (v 16). God promises to keep His commitments to His people “for a thousand generations” (Deut 7:9). He reminds them that He didn't free them because they deserved it or because they were the largest nation on earth, but because He loved them. Many people are facing hardships. You may be one of them. In fact, may be life itself has been nothing but one, long grueling hardship for you for as long as you can remember. I pray that something in this writing, and indeed, in the course of discussing the theme of the year, might bring some comfort for you. There is little else in life that hurts as deeply as feeling as though God is not faithful. Let's address the very MOST important issue regarding God's faithfulness. The Hebrew word translated “faithfulness” means “Steadfastness, firmness, fidelity.” The opposite of being faithful is to be ever. Changing or wishy-washy. Faithfulness is an attribute of God. He is the definition of faithfulness in a sense. It is the nature of God to be faithful and He is. Faithfulness is therefore a characteristic of the body of Christ and one that all Christians should have and practice. Why should Christians or anyone for that matter, obey God? Why should we trust God and do what He says? The answer to these and similar questions is simply that God is faithful. Because God is faithful, we van trust Him and therefore obey Him. We are confident in the times of trouble because we known that God is faithful. The promises of God are real and his faithfulness will never fail us. We have nothing to fear as believers because the power of God is always with us. Yet those words may ring hollow when you are in a crisis situation. You may be dealing with a serious illness for which there is no cure. You may be struggling with financial difficulties and don't know where to turn. You may be suffering the pain of a broken marriage or relationship and have lost all hope for the future. Whatever the struggle, it can be hard to stand in your faith when your circumstance seems hopeless. We read in proverbs 24:10, “if you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength;” The truth is that those who believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ have limitless power to defect anything that comes against them. In I John 5:4, we are told that everyone born of God overcomes the world. The forces of evil cannot conquer a child of God. The devil himself knows that he is unable to harm a hair on your head, but only what God permits. And God will only allow that struggle or pain for which He has prepared in advance to bring you through to victory. Each trial we endure is permitted to help us to develop the perseverance that we need to stay strong in this life so that our faith may be proved genuine. Christ did not suffer and die to lose the battle. His death paid the price for our victory and it cannot be taken from us. It does not matter what trouble you may be experiencing, God is willing and able to bring you through it. He alone can turn a painful situation into something that will be used for good with a reward that will last forever. Here then, is the crux of the whole matter; What God is looking for are people who will be faithful to HIM! especially in the midst of their trials, like Job was. God may allow you to stay in the painful place you are in emotionally (and may be physically) until you determine within yourself to declare that God is faithful to me, and that's the beginning and the ending of the matter!
GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS
1. Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with thee; thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not; as thou hast been thou forever will be.
Refrain: Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
2. Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, sun, moon and stars in their courses above join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide; strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

LENT 3
19TH MARCH, 2017. Theme: Causes of ugly situations Topic: Neglecting God and his word Text: Psa. 91:13-16, Isa 17:9-11,Acts 17:11,12. Aim: i) how Christian neglect God and his word, and
ii) The grave danger in failing to give due recognition, attention or time to God and His word, and
iii) The blessedness in our neglecting God and his word. Introduction To neglect God is to fail to give due care, attention or time to him and his word. Men neglect God when they disobey him. When people do this, at personal, family, community or national level, they are certainly robbing themselves of the wonderful treasures God gives those who acknowledge him and yield to his sovereign leadership. We also note from scriptures that whenever Israel flirted with ideas, plans or purposes contrary to the principles, rules and commandments of God, it received divine judgment. Study Guide 1. State in your own words, what you understand by the
“neglect of God and his word.” Cf,Deut. 32:18; Isa 17:10, Jer.2:32.
2. Why do some Christians neglect God and his word? II Tim. 3: 14-4; Hosea 13:6; I Kings 20:40a. 3a. What are the likely dangers when we fail to give due recognition, attention and time to God and his word? I Sam 2:30; I Chron. 28:9; Isa 17:10,11. b. What does God expect and what results follow a
positive attitude to God and his word? Psa. 91:13-16; Prov. 3:6; Mal.3:7;4:2.
4. In the light of Act 17:11; Mal.3:7; Isa. 66:2; Job 23:1, examine what should be the appropriate Christian attitude to God and his word? Conclusion The Christian family has undoubtedly some who profess Christ but have very little or no evidence of it in with regard to God. For as long as we live in close fellowship with God, we have all of heaven’s resources at our disposal. Sadly, man seems to have a natural inclination to neglect God and make light of the word. Food For Thought Give God and his word the attention needed and you will enjoy God’s favour (I Sam 2:30). Memory Verse - Hosea 13:6.

TODAY’S MEDITATION
THE SACRIFICE OF CHRIST
“For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer
sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh. How
much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit
offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead
works to serve the living God?” Heb. 8:13-14.
The book of Leviticus describes the required gifts and sacrifices the
priests were to make on behalf of the people. There were burnt offerings,
grain offerings, peace, sin and guilt offerings, each sacrifice had specific
guidelines and rituals required when making them. However, the result
was the same; when the offering was made it was accepted by the Lord
and became a pleasing aroma to Him. The priests were the only ones
able to offer these gifts and sacrifices. It was their primary duty.
In the same way, Jesus, our High Priest was also required to offer both
gifts and sacrifices. The difference is that Jesus’ gifts and His sacrifices
were far superior to the gifts offered according to the law. He didn’t
bring animals to sacrifice as a covering for sin. He presented His body,
which was prepared and given for this very purpose (Hebrews 10:5-7).
His Sacrifice completely and utterly wipe away sin and it’s effects, so
there was not even a record of them to accuse us (2 Cor. 5:19; Heb.
10:17-18; I John 2:2). The New Testament tells us that Jesus’ Sacrifice
was a fragrant and pleasing aroma to God (Eph. 5:2).
In fact, Jesus’ gifts and sacrifice did several things that the Levitical
priesthood could never do and only hinted at. First, Jesus paid the debt
left by sin, making our account balanced, absolving us from all guilt
before God (Romans 4:25, Heb. 10:22). Secondly, He took our old sin
nature gave us a new life fashioned after His own (Romans 6:4, II Cor.
5:17, Gal. 2:20, Eph. 4:24, I Pet. 3:18). Next, he died so we could live apart
from the law while obtaining righteousness describe within the law (2
Cor.5:21). This removed death’s claim on us (I Cor.15:55, Eph. 4:7-8, I
Pet. 3:18). Lastly, through Jesus, not the law, we will experience the
incomparable riches of His grace for all eternity (Eph. 2:7). This is why
Jesus’ priesthood is unparalleled to any other.
In contrast to the Levitical line, Jesus only offered these gifts and
sacrifices once. He did not do it over and over, once was all it took. In the
same way that the writer of Hebrews describes the continual offerings of
the earthly priesthood to show that the old system was inadequate, he
points out many times how Jesus’ sacrifice worked the one and only time
it was given. We are eternally blessed that Jesus has been appointed as
our High Priest before God, making intercession for us. Faith in the
saving name of Jesus alone is all it takes to secure a hope and future with
Him eternally.
