A.P.R.E.’s Report Someday when my children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a parent I will tell them: I loved you enough to ask you about where you were going, with whom and what time you would get home. I loved you enough to insist that you buy a bike that we could afford to give you, with your own money. I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your hand-picked friend was a creep. I loved you enough to make you return a Milky Way – with a bite out of it, to a supermarket and to confess: “I took this.” I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that would have taken me fifteen minutes. I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, disgust and tears in my eyes. I loved you enough to admit I was wrong and ask for your forgiveness. I loved you enough to let you stumble, fall and hurt. I loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your actions at 6, 10, 16, 20. But most of all, I loved you enough to say NO when you hated me for it. That was the hardest part of all. God is with us! Patty McCourt

Mark on your calendars please! Nov 23 Catholic Missions Free Dress Day – Lots of activities and a disco in the afternoon. Nov 24 Parish School Mass at 6pm.

More information will be forwarded later.

If you have any dump vouchers that you

will not be using, please give to Shane our

groundsman or to Billie in the office.

Thank you

It’s Dad’s Day at Holy Cross Tuckshop

The children would love to see their Dad’s

serving behind the tuckshop counter.

Pastoral Care Corner

Dear Parents Last week I wrote about the family. Today, we celebrated World Teachers’/Staff Day. I share with you two things that brought these together. Either quote could be applied to family or to a school community. FAMILY A family is a circle – Where we learn to make good decisions, Where we learn to think before we do, Where we learn integrity and table manners And respect for other people, Where we learn we are special, Where we learn how to listen and to be listened to; Where we learn the rules of life To walk in the world. The world is a place where anything can happen: Family is the space that can make us ready for anything. SCHOOL STAFF A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove … but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child. Enjoy reflecting on these thoughts.

God bless Sr Anne. RESILIENCE/CHARACTER BUILDING/PERSONAL INTEGRITY/STRENGTH OF CHARACTER ‘Resilience’ is a word that has become rather hackneyed. I’ve used a few other possibilities above. Whatever you call it, it is very important for our own lives and that of our children. It needs to be fostered in young children. Last term I piloted a talk with Year 2/3 parents. Their feedback was very helpful, so I am offering it to all parents next Wednesday night; 7 November, from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in the new building, ground floor. The kettle will be on. If you are unable to come, but would like the information, just let me know. If you want more details, contact me via phone or email. God bless Sr Anne.

The school community wishes the students who celebrated their birthday this week,

many happy returns:

Avash Nanoo, Willow Preston

Last weekend, we participated in a state wide athletics competition. This annual event was hosted in Cairns this year. The tropical weather and temperature was very hard to adjust to. This level of competition was intense as it was of a higher standard than usual. We had a very successful meet and both made the QLD team for the 100m (Paris) and 200m (Ali). Thank you to all Holy Cross teachers and staff for their tremendous support! Paris Urban & Ali Cathcart Well done girls. We are all very proud of you! Mr Drewniak

OPEN GARDENOPEN GARDENOPEN GARDENOPEN GARDEN 3 & 4 November Soon local garden enthusiasts and a Holy Cross School family will be opening their stunning garden to the general public on Saturday November 3 and Sunday November 4 in celebration of the 25

th Anniversary

of Open Gardens Australia. Sharon Kellett and Adam Wilson (Jack, Prep W) have very kindly nominated our HCS

P&F as the beneficiaries of the entrance fee, as set by the Australian Open Garden Scheme. Their Chalk Street garden, called Mindilga, was specifically selected as it is a usual house block and there are very few small gardens in the scheme – the majority being properties/acreage. It can be accessed via the website, along with all other Open Gardens: http://www.opengarden.org.au/regions/qld_calendar.html. It is their first opening to the public and will occur over the weekend of 3 & 4 November. The Australian Open Garden Scheme has set the entrance at $6.00 per adult (a percentage of which will be contributed to HCS P&F Association). Young people and children under the age of 18 enter for free to encourage the love of gardens and gardening in younger people. Everyone is most welcome to come along and view the garden and please tell your family and as many friends as possible to support both Sharon, for her enormous effort with creating this beautiful garden, and also our P&F Association.
