PASTOR’S LETTER Good People of Holy Cross,
People in the know speak of the first 100 days of a newly elected official’s
term as the crucial time to make the most change, to make the largest impact,
to establish the defining trajectory of their legacy in office. It is the honeymoon
of power, these first few days, when everyone is watching, when the approval
rating or the opinion polls is sky-high, when all hopes are possible. I wonder
what those who advise public officials on matters of public opinion would say of
the way Jesus handled his first hundred hours of public ministry? Jesus had
amassed a sizable public following after just his first day of public life. They were clamoring for his
attention, his touch, his miraculous power. It would have been a political handler’s dream scenario.
That fleeting euphoria of public applause was right there for Jesus’ taking. So, what did Jesus do? At
the very moment when the crowds were clamoring for more of Jesus, he dismissed them, and withdrew
to a desolate place by himself. Talk about a blown opportunity! Jesus knew the “buzz” around town was
electric, but much of it was due to the sensational stories of his healing stories, not his teaching. Jesus
came to set the world back on its right course, which included healing bodies, restoring minds, and
feeding hungry stomachs. Jesus did not come to set up a medical movement, or a soup kitchen, or a
counseling center, but to proclaim good news of God’s love and reign over willing hearts. Question at
hand, does Jesus reign over us?

Las personas informadas hablan de los primeros 100 días del mandato de
un funcionario recién elegido como el momento crucial para lograr el mayor
cambio, lograr el mayor impacto y establecer la trayectoria definitoria de su
legado en el cargo. Es la luna de miel del poder, estos primeros días, cuando
todos están mirando, cuando el índice de aprobación o las encuestas de
opinión están por las nubes, cuando todas las esperanzas son posibles. Me
pregunto qué dirían los que asesoran a los funcionarios públicos sobre asuntos
de opinión pública sobre la forma en que Jesús manejó sus primeras cien horas de ministerio público.
Jesús había acumulado un gran número de seguidores después de su primer día de vida pública.
Clamaban por su atención, su toque, su poder milagroso. Habría sido el escenario soñado de un
político. Esa fugaz euforia del aplauso público estaba ahí para que Jesús la tomara. Entonces, ¿qué
hizo Jesús? En el mismo momento en que la multitud clamaba por más de Jesús, él los despidió y se
retiró a un lugar desolado solo. ¡Habla de una oportunidad desperdiciada! Jesús sabía que el "bullicio"
en la ciudad era eléctrico, pero gran parte se debía a las sensacionales historias de sus historias de
sanación, no a sus enseñanzas. Jesús vino para hacer que el mundo volviera a su curso correcto, que

We grieve precious lives lost and vulnerable lives threatened. We ache for ourselves and our neighbors, standing before an uncertain future. We pray: may love, not fear, go viral. Inspire our leaders to discern and choose wisely, aligned with the common good. Help us to practice social distancing and reveal to us new and creative ways to come together in spirit and in solidarity. Holy Cross Parish Community: I’m joyful to report that Religious Education has experienced such success with our High School Bible Study Program “The Soul Squad”, that many of our Middle School aged children would like to have a Bible Study group as well. We need a dedicated Middle School Teacher who can teach a bible study curriculum in 4-week increments. The Bible Study group will be called “Agape”. If you meet the following criteria:
A Middle School Teacher who is an active, practicing Catholic Can volunteer in 4-week increments starting in March (Spring & Summer) Know how to navigate the Zoom App for videoconferencing Looking for a fun and rewarding way to serve in the Church and strengthen your own faith Creative and customize a bible study

Holy Cross Catholic Church has an immediate opening for a par t-time facility maintenance coordinator. Primary duties include performing the preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance and care of the church's buildings and property, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, energy management, irrigation, and grounds, along with the campus's general upkeep. This candidate should have the expertise to perform routine to mid-level maintenance functions. The current position is for 20 hours per week with the possibility of becoming full time. “At the end of life, we shall all be judged by charity.” – St. John of the Cross St. Vincent de Paul Society is grounded on the belief that we shall all be judged by God on how much we see and serve Him in our neighbors. Thus, we work tirelessly to offer support and care for those in need in our community. Recently we received a call from Maria who is a single Mom with 2 young kids. She has been
working fulltime until recently when her employer reduced her hours and eventually terminated her employment due to lack of business opportunities due to the pandemic. Maria used all of her savings the last couple of months to pay her bills while looking for new employment. Once she depleted her savings, she reached out to SVDP for help. We were able to help Maria to pay part of her last month’s rent and provided information to contact other agencies that could help her. Maria is not alone; we get a lot of calls every week with similar stories. With your generous monthly contributions, we are able to help folks like Maria. In December, through your generous contribution, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to assist 44 families. Thank you for your generosity and May God continue to bless you abundantly. Amen! The Ministry is reaching out for men and women who strive to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to our brothers and sisters in Christ. “Al final de la vida, todos seremos juzgados por la caridad". - San Juan de la Cruz La Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl se basa en la creencia de que todos seremos juzgados por Dios por lo mucho que lo vemos y lo servimos en nuestro prójimo. Por ello, trabajamos incansablemente para ofrecer apoyo y atención a los necesitados de nuestra comunidad. Recientemente recibimos una llamada de María, que es una mamá soltera con 2 niños pequeños. Ha estado trabajando a tiempo completo hasta hace poco tiempo, cuando su empleador redujo sus horas y eventualmente terminó su empleo debido a la falta de oportunidades comerciales debido a la pandemia. María utilizó todos sus ahorros los últimos meses para pagar sus facturas mientras buscaba un nuevo empleo. Una vez que agotó sus ahorros, solicitó ayuda a SVDP. Pudimos ayudar a María a pagar parte del alquiler del último mes y le proporcionamos información para contactar con otras agencias que podrían ayudarla. María no está sola; recibimos muchas llamadas cada semana con historias similares. Con sus generosas contribuciones mensuales, podemos ayudar a personas como María.
