PASTOR’S LETTER Good Lenten People of Holy Cross, A father once approaches Jesus to ask for a healing for his son. I’m struck by the Father’s words: ‘If you CAN do something…’; and then, later, the disciples asked Jesus: ‘Why couldn’t we just do what you did?’ I think of how many times in my life I say ‘I can’t do this. I can’t handle this. I can’t take this. I can’t understand this. I can’t. I can’t. I can’t.’ Is it I CAN’T? or I WON’T? Won’t let go. Won’t surrender my control over things. Won’t give it all over to Jesus and trust that it will get taken care of in God’s good time, not mine. Remember the wonderful story of ‘The Little Engine That Could’: I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I knew I could. I knew I could. I knew I could. The possibilities of getting over the mountain carrying all my baggage like the little engine are surely there. Emptying myself in Jesus I CAN do all things, bear all things, hope all things. Give it time. Not mine. God’s time. Jesus’ time. As we walk Jesus these Lenten days, our refrain is: “I know I can. A scholarship of $500 dollars will be awarded to one graduating high school senior to be used for college, technical school or missionary expenses. REQUIREMENTS: Graduating high school senior, registered member of Holy Cross (minimum of one year from deadline) Must have a minimum of 5 service hours for a Holy Cross ministry. Votive Candles: Celebrate the life of family or friends with a Votive Candle. Votive candles burn brightly night and day as expressions of prayer for special intentions. At Holy Cross, the bottom rows (the smaller candles) are lit for a love offering. Simply deposit your offering and push button. Contact Yrene Lorenzo for a monthly or yearly intention.

Gluten-Free Hosts Gluten-free hosts are available upon request. Please call the parish office ahead of time if you would like to receive one.

Hearing-impaired devices Hearing-impaired devices are available at all weekend Masses. If you would like to use one, please visit the Welcome Desk or as an Usher.

Pray daily for the priest assigned to that day.

O Jesus, eternal Priest, keep your priests, especially <name of priest>

within the shelter of Your Sacred Heart, where none may touch them.

Keep unstained their anointed hands, which daily touch Your Sacred Body.

Keep unsullied their lips, daily purpled with Your Precious Blood.

Keep pure and unearthly their hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of the priesthood.

Let Your holy love surround them and shield them from the world’s contagion.

Bless their labors with abundant fruit and may the souls to whom they minister be their joy and consolation here

and in heaven their beautiful and everlasting crown. Amen.
