10th Sunday in Ordinary Time

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

Led by the spirit and example of the Holy Family, our parish community embraces as its mission the salvation of all people. Rooted in the celebration of the Eucharist, we go forth to serve, to educate, and to live daily the message of Jesus Christ.

INVITE SOMEONE BACK TO CHURCH!!

DEAR PARISHIONERS:

Back to Ordinary Time on the weekends! No more Easter Season or Feasts of the Holy Trinity or The Body & Blood of Christ. No, just “Ordinary Time.” But, as you may know, there is nothing “ordinary” about any of the weeks during our liturgical year. Ordinary Time in the Catholic Church is named be-cause of ordinal numbers used to differentiate the weeks ---3rd, 9th, 17th, 31st, etc. It is a numbering system. It does not mean that the Masses are “ordinary” in any sense of the word, meaning “blah” or “trivial.” Mass is the special time when we encounter Jesus so very closely. He comes to us in a very, very special way in Communion. We are privileged to re-ceive THE Body & THE Blood of Jesus. It is actually Jesus Himself we receive. What a blessing & a gift that is for us as Catholics. We are to see how extraordi-nary that is! We are never to take it for granted in our daily lives. We are to treasure how special the Eucharist is.

Also in the Mass we hear proclaimed the Living Word of God. We hear the extraordinary Word of God that inspires us & challenges us to live according to the law of love. We are called to be preachers & teachers of the Word by what we say &

do. We can bring that Living Word to ordinary people so that they are able to feel extraordinary. In the Mass we gather with other be-lievers to celebrate. What a privilege that is! We feel the extraordinary presence of Jesus in the community gathered. We see His living Presence in those around us. We are more the Body of Christ when we gather together to worship God who is anything but ordinary. Let us never miss a moment to experience, celebrate, & grow in the special moments given to us at Mass, dur-ing which we praise God for His extraordinary love for us. And we do this for the next months in our Ordinary Time. YOUR PASTOR, FATHER JOE P.S. THANK YOU to all those who contributed to this past year’s ACSA Campaign. Due to your generosity, we received a check from the diocese last week for $2,939.50, the amount that we exceeded our assessed goal. I can’t begin to express my gratitude to all of you who helped this be a reality. We don’t need to send any $$ in to make up our difference since you enabled us to go over!! May God bless you in abundance for your willingness to help the diocese & to help Holy Family parish.

PRAY FOR OUR SICK: Florene Alcorn, Laura Allen, Claire Behme, Kirk Beyers, Steve Brinkoetter, Tyler Brown, Vince Conte, Donna French, Pat Hamilton, Rick Harmon, Sharon Holeman, Kathy Kirby, Jim Murray, Gretchen Peters-Hantel, Terri Schram, Fr. John Sohm, Renee Tillman, Ryan Tillman

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS) will be held here from June 13-17. Registration forms are available on the adoration table at church. Space is limited, so signup now. Vol-unteers are needed to make this VBS a “farm-tastic” event. If you would like to help, please call the rectory office at 423-6223.

SICK LIST POLICY: Names that are submitted will be removed after 4 weeks unless resubmitted. The new names added each week will be in BOLD for that one week, so that it will be easier to know a new name.

FATHER BRADEN will preside at ALL the Masses here on the weekend of June 18/19. After each Mass a reception will be held in the Parish Center. Please come & congratulate him on being a new priest!

YEAR OF MERCY REFLECTION FOR June 4/5 Raising the dead. There are two stories, three really, of someone coming back from death at the hand of an-other. Although I might not see myself bringing an un-breathing boy or dead man back among the living as Jesus or Elijah did, I can keep vigil with the dying and with those who mourn them. What great mercy work! The third story is more metaphorical. Paul, who first persecuted the young Church, then was knocked off his horse by the living Christ, spent three years in solitude listening and praying and taking guidance from God. Paul withdrew for a needed time and, refreshed by God, came back stronger to do God’s work.

• How will I carve out some time this week to listen to

and be with God?

• Who is dying and needs my visit and my prayer?

• Who is grieving and needs my presence and my com-

fort?

CONGRATULATIONS to Bob & Connie Elam. They celebrate their 70th wedding anni-versary on June 4th.

FROM FR. JOE: THANK YOU to all those who re-membered my 33rd Ordination Anniversary! I appreciate the cards, prayers, gifts, & well-wishes. On to #34!
