~ The sun was shining on Holsworthy on Saturday with a massive crowd in attendance from every county in the South West of
England despite there being several other sales on the same day ~

Top call of the day was the £15,200 given for the best of the 10 tractors that went under the hammer on the day. £15,200 was given for the Case tractor on behalf of Messrs Hammett of Morchard Bishop following the sale of their farm through the Kivells farms and Land department in Exeter. Not far back was the John Deere 6320 on behalf of the Executors of the late Mr Whiteoak of Newquay in North Cornwall which reached £13,200 going off to Somerset. Messrs Hooper of Crackington Haven near Bude saw their Tafe 47hp tractor pull away to £7,000 with the John Deere in from Newton Abbott hitting £4,850. Other highlights included the Kioti UTV reaching £2,700 whilst the slurry tanker came in from Nick Ley of Cookbury and hit £2,300 and went off to its new home near Cullompton in East Devon.
Several Ifor Williams trailers today saw a 100% clearance with the pick coming from Paul Tucker of Barnstaple at £1,500 with smaller trailers from Messrs Hooper & Son of Crackington Haven at £950 with Roger Young of Saltash at £650.
A huge entry of gates, feeders and shed work saw New feed barriers in from Skinners Engineering to £500 whilst over 100 gates sold to a top call of £105 for a pair of gates in from Devon County Council with others from the same home at £104 & £100.
NEW TOOLS – AUCTIONEER JAMES MORRISH Once again the +VAT sale kicked off with 200 new tools and goods on behalf of Rural Excess who made the 260 mile round trip to Holsworthy from Chepstow in South Wales and saw a top call of £130 for their Husqvarna chainsaw with another at £124. The pick of 14 tractor/trailer lights hit £60 whilst a total clearance was seen for their consignment of tractor seat chairs/stools topping at £52.
802 MACHINERY & GOODS (NON VAT) – AUCTIONEER DAVID C KIVELL
Again over 800 lots in this section with a very high clearance rate on the day. Overall top call was £7,000 given for the 51 plate tractor in from Danny Norman of Dolton and going to join the Keenor family at Broadwoodkelly. Messrs Basset & Sluggett Coaches sold the pick of the 21 vehicles which went under the hammer today and reached £2,650 for the Mitsubishi 4x4 (109,000 miles) whilst the best of the non-VAT trailers hit £2,050 on behalf of Steven Turner of Altranun, Cornwall.
The baby International 414 tractor came in from Plymouth and sold well reaching £950. Amongst the garden and horticultural goods was the Husqvarna rotavator which reached £150 on behalf of Messrs Jacobs whilst the pick of 20 lots of lightweight hedge cutters, strimmers and equipment reached a top of £80 on behalf of Mr Hunkin of Launceston. The best of several lots of wheels saw a top call of £120 on behalf of Mr James of Stowford with others between £50-£110 throughout the day.
316 POULTRY, PET FOOD & EFFECTS – AUCTIONEER ANDREW VARNEY A much bigger entry than expected being part of a total entry of over 700 lots of poultry within 7 days saw trade equally as good as recent sales and seeing a top call of £70 for a pair of Golden phesants in from Mr Grigg of Highampton. Not far behind was Messrs Read of Trelash at £58 for a pair of Dark Brahmas with Barbe ducklings at £50. Terry Wills of Davidstow hit £48 for his Bantam and chicks with Messrs Lang at £42 for his Brahma.
A useful entry of poultry equipment topped at £60 for a hutch with Messrs Rennie of Brandis Corner hitting £50 for an egg house. Messrs Lang sold their incubator well at £42 with plenty of lots between £25-£35.
Speaking after the sale James Morrish of Kivells said “A fabulous day at Holsworthy with plenty of buyers and sellers keen to do business”.
