Newton’s story is about the three clues he was given that led him to his

wife: When he was 18, he saw a Christmas advertisement for Hamilton

watches that featured a (1) beautiful dark-haired woman (2) dressed in

white with the caption “to [3] Peggy.”

These clues were reinforced when he was given a Hamilton watch on

his twenty-first birthday by a favorite aunt. Several years later when

Newton was a graduate student in Phoenix doing his laundry, the

following message suddenly came into his mind, “It’s time to meet the

woman in white.” He tried to ignore it, but it wouldn’t go away.

Finally he received a very emphatic message: “Go now!” He went to the

largest hospital in Phoenix to find a “woman in white.” After arriving, he

went to a nursing station and asked for a woman named Peggy who

matched the description of the [dark haired] woman in the

advertisement. He was directed to the cafeteria where Peggy was eating

lunch and met her.
