AIR

ELEMENT NEWS . . .

Today in Air’s Element meeting we started by giving Oliver the Shadow an Air Element hoody.

Then we were entertained by the Year 8s, who were musketeers!

We did the star totals next and there were a lot of them! Mr White and Mr Guy had the winning

tutor groups. Archie and Tom then gave a small presentation about an Adam Lallana shirt we are

raffling.

Then we played our game where pupils had to balance a cup on their heads.

AIR

WATER In this week's Element meeting, Water’s venue was changed. We held our Element meeting out-

side on the field. We learnt that Benedict’s father is building a pool at the university to help with

space exploration.

In the Junior stars, Mrs Apperley’s tutor group won Peter with the help of Isaac H and Holly S and

in the Seniors, although Martha M got an amazing total of 18 stars, Mrs Wild’s tutor group stole it

from Mr Lesiak’s grasp. Although Water’s new mascot, the clownfish (yet to be named), was

awarded to the pupil who collected the most stars - in this case, Martha M.

The Year 8s set up an obstacle course run by Joseph H, Sophie D and Eva G. The winner with a time of 27 seconds

was Sophie D.

SCIENCE WEEK IN THE PRE-PREP. . .

Science week in Pre-Prep consisted of a lot of fun as well as learning and using the 5Rs. Our theme was

experiments and investigations. Year 1s’ experiments included raisins in lemonade (why do the raisins dance?), salt

volcano, gloop (messy but fun) and an investigation of how sound travels through metal coat hangers and string into

our ears! Year 1 also visited the science labs and with white coats and protective glasses as well as some help from

Mr Cook), investigated foaming fizz and how to get a hard boiled egg into a glass bottle. Year 2s’ investigations

were about the properties of materials. They made paper bridges, tested the strength of paper, waterproofed fabric

and tested bouncing balls. Year 3 became lighting engineers for science week. They investigated what materials

made shadows and how the distance of a light source effects the size of its shadow. In groups they created their own

scenery for a shadow theatre with brilliant results!

We were very fortunate on Wednesday to be visited by Sphere Science, led by Sarah Langford. Reception, Year 1

and 2 children took part in a carousel of activities with a circus theme and Year 3 made solar circuits. There was a

real buzz of excitement in the Pre-Prep hall throughout the day and Sarah commented that she had had a fabulous

day working with the children. In addition Year 2 and 3 attended a Quantum Theatre production about materials.

A great week!
