you and yours a truly joyous holiday season and a happy new year filled with peace, good health and abundant blessings.

Sausage and Cheese RollWhat do you eat that just feels like home to you or brings back memories of warm homes and loving people from days gone by? Well for me there are so many different recipes that make me feel like I can close my eyes and I am back home. This month I am going to share a simple yet deeply satisfying recipe that we make Christmas morning.

Sausage and cheese bread is the easiest make ahead breakfast for a holiday morning possible!

To make this meal our family all request over and over again here is what you need:

• Sausage (I use Jimmy Dean sage, but my mama uses Neese’s which is local to NC.) Or, for a vegetarian option you can use Lifelight Gimme Lean vegetable protein sausage style

• Sharp shredded cheddar cheese (two 8oz blocks)• Bridgeford bread loaves (found in the freezer section- they come 3 or 5 loaves in a pack-

age) You can buy other yeast bread loaves to use if you can’t find this. Remember that some bread doughs make tougher bread than others, so I stick to the same brand if possible.

• Paper towels • Gallon size zip lock bag• Saran wrap• Aluminum foil• Cookie sheet

1. Lay out a loaf of bread dough by wrapping it fro-zen in saran wrap and letting it thaw and rise.

2. Next you brown the sausage into crumbles and once it is fully cooked you place it into a ziplock bag lined with paper towels to absorb the oils.

3. Then you roll the dough flat out and spread shredded cheese over the bread leaving room to overlap when rolling it back up.

4. Then layer over the cheese with sausage, then over that with another layer of cheese. 5. Once you have done that roll the loaf and pinch it together to seal it. Flip it over onto a

baking sheet.6. Bake for the time specified on the bread package. (This varies slightly by brand of bread.)7. Once it's finished, promptly wrap it in aluminum foil and let sit for about 5 to 10 minutes

wrapped up. Cut in slices and serve warm.

Wishing you warm holidays and happy times!

Peppermint Candy OrnamentsLooking for a cute, inexpensive fun gift to make to give to all those people in your life that you want to let know how much they matter to you? Personalized ornaments that they can eat!!!

Who doesn’t like candy? And how fun to make something that they can show off and then eat??

These simple candy ornaments are easy to make with a few ingredients!

• peppermint candies• metal cookie cutters• non-stick cooking spray• parchment paper• toothpick or skewer• twine or ribbon

Preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spray the inside of each cookie cutter with cooking spray. Lay cookie cutters on baking sheet and fill with a layer of peppermints.

Bake for 3-9 minutes. Keep an eye on candy as it melts, remove from oven when candies have melted together.

Lightly coat a toothpick with cooking spray and use it to make a hole in each group of candies. Let candy sit inside cookie cutter until it re-hardens. Once hard, carefully stretch out the cookie cutter, pulling it away from the candy, to pop out your ornament.

Wrap these peppermint treats individually in plastic wrap, if you’d like.

This past month has been bittersweet as we said goodbye after over 17 years to our orange tabby, Peppy. Peppy survived many health scares, accidents, and scrapes over the years and honestly she probably lived a few more than her allotted nine lives.

When we were newlyweds we adopted Peppy and her best friend Polo from the Riverside Humane Society. We originally asked to adopt one cat, but when we arrived for our meet ‘n’ greet, they asked us to take two, because they were best friends and inseparable since meeting in ringworm quarantine. Peppy was a feisty little female orange tabby, and Polo was a mellow black and white striped tabby. When their eyes met across the crowded room, it was best-friendship at first sight.

We brought the cats home to our Canyon Crest apartment, where Scott experimented with walk-ing Polo on a leash, and I installed a window ledge so they could take turns taking afternoon naps in the sunshine. When Eva was born, Scott ran home to give them the first baby cap that had rested on her head, so they could learn her scent. They loved her and enjoyed sleeping on her changing table, and when Jane came home for the first time a few years later, they were old pros at having a baby in the house.

After we moved to Temecula, they enjoyed living an indoor-outdoor lifestyle, though sadly, Polo died from a coyote attack in 2004. Peppy lived for years more as queen bee of the house, ruling with an iron paw over a series of new cat companions. We said goodbye to Peppy with her favorite treat, slightly melted ice cream. It’s so hard to lose a pet, and we are all still mourning her in our own ways, but memories of our many good times with her will last forever.

10 Must Haves for Holiday Decorating! The holidays are fast approaching, and it’s not too early to start enhancing your holiday décor. For inspiration, here are ten “must haves” to inspire your creativity!

1. Let There Be Light! Soft glowing light is complementary to you and your guests. Once you’ve turned the lights down low, bring out the candles by the boxful. From tall and tapered to short and stout, candles set a celebratory tone. For the most dramatic impact, group candles just as you would any other collectible, and display them on a silver platter.

2. Haul Out The Holly! When choosing plants to help add holiday cheer, think beyond the traditional poinsettias. Fill metallic vases with bouquets of fresh flowers and holly. Or choose beautifully shaped topiaries covered with pepper berries.

3. Precious Metals. Silver is still the choice of metal – and you can incorporate it in a num-ber of ways, including candlesticks, picture frames, and decorative boxes. Don’t hesitate to mix things up a bit. In formal rooms, combine your silver pieces with gold or polished brass accessories. Or take a more casual approach by blending pewter, copper and brass.

4. A Feast for the Eye. The dining room itself should be a visual feast. Drape the chandelier with pine garland or holly. Surprise your guests with wrapped gifts on their salad plates. And for a cohesive feeling, incorporate an element of your room’s design on the table. If you room features a mirrored wall, use mirrored charges beneath each plate

5. Ornamental Accents. Christmas tree ornaments are not just for trees anymore. Display some on the coffee table is an oversized bowl or clear glass urn. You can even use round glass balls as place cards, and write each guest’s name on each and set them around the dining table.

6. Be My Guest. Is your guest room ready for holiday guests? Is there a luggage stand and/or space in the closet? Are there plenty of pillows? Is the bedside table big enough to accommodate a lamp, reading materials, and a carafe of water? Don’t forget the little extras such as fresh fruit, potpourri, and a basket of toiletries. And be sure to include a few holiday touches like greenery or a small gift.

7. The Wonder of Wreaths. Whether you prefer wreaths made of natural materials or some of the lovely permanent florals on the market today. Wreaths are an absolute must for any holiday home. In addition to their traditional place on the front door or over the mantle, smaller wreaths can be used as curtain tiebacks or napkin rings

8. Festive Fruits and Vegetables. Visit the produce aisle of your grocery store for unique holiday decorations. For example, spray-paint walnuts and gourds in silver of gold and display them in a decorative basket. Or fill a large crystal bowl with red and green apples.

9. Set Your Own Style. Make your tree an integral part of your deco-rating scheme and a reflection of your personality. Are antique toys a personal passion? Then decorate the tree with miniature wooden versions. Are you a dedicated beachcomber? Attach some of your favorite shells to the tree with simple grosgrain ribbon.

10. Wrap It Up With Ribbon. Ribbon can be used for much more than wrapping presents. Use French wire ribbons, in a variety of widths, to tie bows on your trees. Or instead of a garland or greenery, wrap your banister with ribbon. You can also hang holiday cards from a mantle or shelf using narrow ribbons in holiday colors.
