This gem of nature has been a classified Regional Nature Reserve since 2009. The site is made up of three features: the island, the old salt marshes and the barrier beach of Vieille-Nouvelle. It can be visited on foot or by bike at any time of year. A superb bird-watching spot.

A walk along the timber pontoons above the lake give the impression of walking on water! You can continue walking up to the top of Mour hill to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view over the lake and islands and, in the distance, the Mediterranean Sea.

SigeanA village with character, which draws its strength from the stone, the omnipresent mineral. Indeed, the village is nestled at the base of La Roque cliff, which gives it a crowned, regal aspect. Vineyards are just one of Roquefort-des-Corbières’s treasures, its environment being just as remarkable. Saint-Martin hill, in particular, offers a splendid view of the coast.

L’embouchure de l’Aude aux Cabanes de Fleury

Many a legend can be heard about this natural site that’s shrouded in mystery. The Oeil Doux Abyss, a small lake of emerald green in the heart of the Massif de la Clape, is in fact the result of the collapse of the roof of an underground cavern thousands of years ago. Walk around it, starting at Domaine de l’Oustalet. For children, a good option is a pony ride. Bathing is prohibited.

Son muchas las leyendas que circulan sobre este lugar natural repleto de misterio. Le Gouffre de l’OEil Doux, un pequeño lago verde esmeralda en pleno macizo de la Clape, es en realidad el desplome del techo de una caverna subterránea de hace miles de años. Podéis hacer un tour saliendo desde el dominio de Oustalet. Con los niños podréis disfrutar de paseos en poni. Baño prohibido.

From the 17th to the 19th century, Le Somail was an important port for both traders and travellers. On a walk through the hamlet, you’ll discover a host of sights dating back to the canal’s construction: chapel, stone bridge, icehouse, inn and guardhouse. Thomas Jefferson, before he became President of the United States, was very impressed on his visit to Le Somail.

The hamlet of Le Somail was built on the Canal du Midi in the 17th Century by Pierre Paul Riquet. It was a port of call for passengers who stayed for the “couchée” (evening meal and night). For almost 300 years, the Canal underwent a period of intense activity. Clas-

All roads lead to Mailhac (almost)! The medieval village therefore has several ‘entrance gates’ (stone gateways). Walk around the alleys and visit the still visible ramparts. Travel back in time to protohistory and visit the oldest oppida in the region (visit occa-sionally organised by the Camins association).

Located in a meander of the river Cesse, Mirepeisset is a village with a feeding conduct running through its entire length, bordered by the Canal du Midi. There are numerous hiking routes along its rivers and vineyard tracks. End the hike with a swim in La Garenne, a supervised bathing area in the summer.

Mirepeisset, situado en el meandro del Cesse, es un pueblo que está atravesado por la Rigole d’alimentation y bordeado por el canal de Midi. The village of Ouveillan was developed on the remains of a Roman villa. The beautiful Romanesque church with its black basalt inlays demonstrates Ouveillan's importance as a medieval village in the region.

Playing with the wind at the top of the hills, Névian’s turbines signal the close presence of the village. Névian has ancient origins, whose traces reach back into antiquity. Today the village lives in rhythm with its wind farm, one of the largest in France.

Dies ist die kleinste Kommune (250 Einwohner) des Gemeinde-verbandes Le Grand Narbonne. The circulade (circular village) of Pouzols- Minervois is a stopover in Sud-Minervois, renowned for its wines. The hills overlooking it boast a wide range of Mediterranean plants. As well as the beautiful view over the coastal plains extending from Béziers to Narbonne, one can admire the snow-capped summits of the Pyrenees.

A few miles from Narbonne towards the Montagne Noire mountain range, the commune is delimited by the Canal du Midi in the North and river Aude in the South. The hamlet of Le Somail has most of its territory on this commune. The ancient village of Saint-Nazaire-d’Aude is worth the detour: stroll along its streets and visit its watch turret and Comte d’Artois Château.

Midway between Rome and Santiago de Compostela, on the ‘Camin Romieu’ pilgrim route, Sainte-Valière is a small discreet village with about 500 inhabitants, surrounded by vineyards and pine trees. On the square, opposite the church entrance, the ancient gate of the village walls can be seen. The picturesque Roman church is striking, its Roman chancel flanked by two Gothic apses.

Ventenac-en-Minervois is one of the emblematic villages along the Canal du Midi. It is built like an amphitheatre on a hill, and enjoys one of the most beautiful views over the wine-growing plains. The public docking space harbours the ‘Marie-Thérèse’, one of the last wine-carrying barges.
