A Treatment For A Short Film Screenplay

The PresentStarts: Housing estate in WalsallMain RoadDay; 3:00pm

From a BLACKOUT with music introduction, a woman s face , brownhair, pretty and young, in a CLOSEUP frame is seen as shewalks down the street, oblivious to her surroundings. Her legsare then shown as she walks down the street, she does not seemto be in a hurry but is making her way at a gradual pace. Fromher POV we see her glance across to the other side of theroad, look away and then double back.

A tall, young handsome example of a man is shown standing onthe opposite side of the street. She is seen to be fascinatedby him, then suddenly irate as she notices he does not makeeye contact and seems to have no interest in her whatsoever.While clearly distracted, she trips over a brick in front ofan oncoming car and seems done for, accented by an upwardmovement in tem po of music and lots of QUICK EDITING . Just asit seems she is going to be killed, the man who seemed to begoing out his way to avoid her saves her by diving across and

scoping her up. After the o rdeal he introduces himself asBrian and offers her a drink during a CLOSE UP shot with WARMMUSIC. The scene then FADES TO BLACK.

The next scene we see takes place at Brian s house in hiskitchen and we find out the woman s name is Karen. Editing ismuch slower and relaxed in this scene and consist s of Brianand Karen conversing, eventually leading to flirtatiousbehaviour. They discuss when to see each other again andengage in casual flirting . Karen gladly gives Brian her numberbut the decides it is time for her to leave for now. Upon herdeparture from Brian s house they share a cuddle and a kiss onthe cheek, the scene is accented by smooth warm music. A CLOSEUP then shows Brian s awkward reaction to her sudden displ ayof affection. A MEDIUM CLOSE UP then shows Karen take in adeep breath, smiling and lookin g at the sky showing how happyshe is that she has met someone who she likes.

After a clear pass of time, we see Karen call Brian to see howhe his. He comes down the stairs and answers the phone to her




and the two engage in conversation. Both are shown in a MEDIUMCLOSE UP framing. Karen eventually decides she may be keepinghim busy from other things and lets him go, much to Brian scomfort. Another pass of time occurs and Brian is working inhis own office at home at a computer, we presume he works forhimself or runs a business from home. He gets a call offKaren, slightly irritating him as he wishes to continue work.He manages to get rid of her, thinks nothing of it andcontinues his typing. He is again shown in a MEDIUM CLOSE UPframe with more UPBEAT MUSIC.

NEW DAYThe PresentHousing estate in WalsallStarts: Karen s Room/Brian s RoomMorning; 4:00am

Yet another period of time goes and Karen wakes up (SLOW MUSICMAY BE HEARD), early in the morning and decides to call Brian,she is shown in a MEDIUM SHOT. Brian is obviously asleep atthis godly hour and confronts her as to what she wants fromhim, shown in a CLOSE UP to focus on how tired he is in hisface. The have a small discussion resulting in Brian endingthe conversation. Horrified at this , Karen is shown very crosswhere-as Brian goes back to sleep, not caring too much. Thefinal conversation over the phone we will see is Karen in her

living room calling Brian again, shown in a MEDIUM CLOSE UP.Brian answers and is driving, the camera will be OVER THESHOULDER but keeping him in shot. They argue and Karen endsthe conversation angrily.

Later that day, we see a CRANE SHOT over Karen s house show ingBrian arriving, his motive is unknown as of yet. A SLOW, WARMPIANO MEDLEY is played upon hi s arrival He walks up to herhouse and is instantly greeted by a happy Karen. A SHOTREVERSE SHOT sequence is used once, showing the break upfollowed by a MEDIUM SHOT showing both of them. At this pointBrian leaves, a great weight off his shoulders. SLOWMELANCHOLY MUSIC fades in as the scene changes.

Karen is seen exactly as she is in the beginning of the film,only much more sad. MUSIC is carried on from the previousscene with small CLIPS OF VOICE MAIL showing she is thinkingabout how she may have ca lled him back to no avail. She seesanother guy walking towards her, takes a deep breath, andcasually steps into the road in the path of the oncoming car.




We do not see exactly what happens but a SKID AND CRASH isheard. Queue credits.
