About Hoffman Equipment

Our Family BusinessIn 1920, Bill and Harry Hoffman purchased their first truck and founded Hoffman Motor Transportation to deliver roofing material for installation companies. The company expanded steadily over the next thirty years by specializing in heavy hauling and rigging, moving oversized objects, such as large machinery, structural steel, storage tanks, industrial boilers, and even diners.

In 1949, Hoffman Rigging & Crane Service, Inc. was established to complement the transportation business with a crane operation and dealership. This company spawned a crane rental business that included a fleet of 75 cranes—crawler and truck mounted, lattice boom and hydraulic—with lifting capacities ranging from 15 to 300 tons.

During the ’60s and ’70s, Hoffman was heavily involved in transporting and rigging services needed for constructing both fossil fuel and nuclear power plants. At the same time, the company was expanding internationally by exporting equipment to construction sites around the world.

In 1977, Hoffman opened its Milan, Italy location, and the following year the company’s international headquarters in Piscataway, NJ was established. Opportunities to supply equipment around the world continued, and the company was named "Exporter of the Year" for the State of New Jersey in 1996.

In the last few years, Hoffman has expanded its presence in the New Jersey/New York area by adding four locations—in New Jersey, Long Island, Bronx, and Marlboro, NY. The company is now owned by Timothy Watters, whose mother is a Hoffman. He is the third generation to run the business. The values that have assured this family business would prosper over the years are the same values that spurred Hoffman to provide equipment and organize a convoy to help in the relief efforts at Ground Zero on 9/11 and the same values that ensure our customers always receive first class treatment.

Our Equipment Whatever your needs are, you can be assured that Hoffman Equipment can provide anything required. The lines of equipment available include construction equipment from Case, Doosan and JCB, cranes manufactured by Manitowoc, National, and Grove, boom trucks from Manitex, material handlers from Liebherr, crushers and screeners from CEC Construction Equipment, Atlas Copco hydraulic attachments, and a wide variety of ground engaging tools and attachments from Genesis and a group of top quality manufacturers.

When you need extra equipment, Hoffman Equipment will deliver clean, well maintained rental units right to your job site. You can always count on getting good value by choosing a machine that meets your needs from our used equipment fleet.

■ Case and Manitowoc provide specialized training for their equipment

■ Repairs are diagnosed correctly and completed on time, within budget

Our Technicians Are Factory TrainedHoffman Equipment has extensive training requirements to certify technicians and assure that they are properly equipped to service your machines. Our technicians are trained in equipment operation, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair. Hoffman combines classroom training with on-the-job experience for a thorough understanding of machine maintenance and repair. Safety regulations and procedures are emphasized throughout the training process.

Manufacturer TrainingBecause of our commitment to constant training, Hoffman Equipment maintains an “Elite Dealer” status with Manitowoc. Our technicians attend classes at Case’s training center in Racine, WI and Manitowoc’s Crane Care training centers in Manitowoc, WI and Shady Grove, PA, where they keep abreast of innovations with refresher courses on the latest technological advancements manufactured into today’s construction equipment and cranes, such as computer monitoring and plug-in diagnostics. These classes are taught by certified specialists.

Both manufacturers host courses on the functions and performance of specific machines, which include preventive maintenance inspections, adjustments, tests, troubleshooting techniques, and repair procedures. There are also component courses, which provide more in-depth information for specialized technicians. As diagnostic equipment becomes more and more complicated, training is especially critical to maintain equipment properly and optimize operating time.

Testing is a critical component to these training classes and includes both hands on and written reviews of systems, such as electrical, pneumatics, hydraulics, ECOS, HED, PAT, EKS, and mechanical. Some of the tests require timed performance. Certificates are awarded upon successful completion of training.

Customer TrainingHoffman Equipment offers customer training classes at all locations. We provide skill training for operating a variety of machines and equipment to assure that best practices are used on-site with proper operating techniques and that the range of each machine’s capabilities is understood.

Hoffman Equipment has designed a preventive maintenance program for your fleet that follows the same regimen the company uses for its own rental fleet. We can verify service hours periodically to assure that we perform maintenance activities that meet warranty coverage requirements. By performing routine maintenance, you will avoid unplanned downtime, unexpected breakdowns, and injuries.

Convenient ServiceWe’ll arrange to service your machines at the time and location that are most convenient for you. Our service trucks can be dispatched to your location during off hours, or you can bring your equipment to our shop. We’ll always work around your schedule.

On Time MaintenanceAll maintenance procedures outlined in your owner’s manual are conducted at the factory recommended intervals. If repairs are needed, Hoffman Equipment will provide a detailed estimate, including a recommended timeframe, so you can budget and plan downtime for any necessary repairs.

OEM PartsAny replacement parts are the same quality that the factory built into your machine.

Fluid AnalysisFluid samples extracted from your machine are analyzed. This analysis is an early warning system that detects abnormally high wear rates and elevated contaminant levels. With these results, you can proactively make repairs and avoid premature and catastrophic machine failures.

Knowledgeable TechniciansOur factory trained technicians perform maintenance procedures, fully inspect the machine and document areas of concern before major problems surface.

Contract LengthThe choice is yours. The term of the agreement is flexible and can range from one to ten years.

Scheduled Maintenance InspectionsReduce downtime with Scheduled Maintenance Inspections by our Certified Technicians

■ Emergency service available 24/7

■ Certified, trained technicians

■ Documented maintenance for warranty assurance

■ Any brand

■ On-site or in our shop

On Time InspectionsYou can count on Hoffman Equipment to complete Scheduled Maintenance Inspections for your equipment to avoid downtime and keep your machines performing their best. Most equipment manufacturers require some sort of maintenance every 250 hours. We can verify service hours periodically to assure that we perform maintenance activities that meet warranty coverage requirements.

Trained, Certified TechniciansAll machines are serviced by our trained, certified technicians, on-site or in our shops. And we don’t only service the equipment we sell—we can service any brand that’s in your fleet.

Thorough InspectionsEach type of equipment has a thorough inspection regimen that is strictly followed to ensure that all appropriate equipment functions are inspected to identify any possible problems. Ask about our oil analysis with each inspection to identify potential issues, based on the presence of metals and contaminants in the machine’s fluids.

Custom Hydraulic InspectionsEven the most experienced operators can’t detect hydraulic system efficiency loss until it reaches 16-20%. To protect against such losses, we recommend that machines depending on efficient hydraulic systems undergo a Custom Hydraulic Service Inspection every 12 months or 2,000 hours. The service includes engine and hydraulic system performance tests, hydraulic oil sampling, and a walkaround inspection. All results are compared against new machines to detect wear in your components and repair minor problems before a major failure occurs.

Our scheduled machine inspections are available for the following equipment:

Equipment # of Inspection PointsArticulated Trucks 78 Compaction Equipment 74 Crawler Tractors/Dozers 79 Cranes 138 Excavators 70 Forklifts 79 Motor Graders 80 Skid Steers/Compact Track Loaders 41 Tractor/Backhoe Loaders 79 Telehandlers 79 Wheel Loaders 78

Page 10: Hoffman Parts and Service Brochure

Hoffman Equipment offers fluid analysis kits to monitor the internal health of your equipment. Performing fluid analysis at regular intervals ensures that potential problems will be spotted as early as possible.

What is Fluid Analysis?By extracting fluids from several areas in your equipment and analyzing the level of contaminants in the fluids, potential problems with component failure can actually be predicted. As components wear, microscopic pieces will appear in the fluids throughout the machine’s parts. By analyzing which metals are appearing where and in what concentration, the remaining life of each component can actually be predicted, so that you can anticipate when major repairs may be necessary.

Service and Repair RecommendationsBy evaluating the results of your machine’s fluid analysis, Hoffman Equipment can provide guidance on necessary repairs and filter and oil change intervals.

Laboratory AccreditationThe fluid analysis laboratories that Hoffman Equipment uses are ISO 17025 A2LA accredited, which is the highest level of quality certification for testing laboratories by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation. You can be confident that the fluid analysis results are accurate, repeatable, and backed by stringent laboratory standards.

Sampling IntervalsManufacturers recommend sampling intervals for each model. Also consider how critical each piece of equipment is to your production in determining sampling frequency. You may want to reduce the hours between sampling periods for equipment operating under more stressful conditions.

10

Fluid AnalysisAnalyzing system fluids reveals actual internal conditions

■ Contaminant levels predict component failures accurately

■ Maintenance intervals can be dictated by contaminant levels in fluids to determine when to replace filters and change oil

■ Oil analysis records prove your equipment has been maintained and help increase resale value

■ Any make, any model

Wireless Monitoring SystemsLocate your equipment any time, monitor actual hours of operation, and prevent unauthorized use

■ Reduce costs and increase productivity with maintenance notifications and alerts for equipment problems

■ Save on repairs with remote troubleshooting for equipment problems

Wireless monitoring systems automatically collect and wirelessly transmit data about your equipment, so you can track your equipment location at all times and monitor the hours of operation. All data can be accessed through the internet and integrated into your business systems. You can also allow outside parties to access your equipment data.

*A surcharge may be added to the new equipment rate once the warranty period expires, and failures that occur within the first 30 days after registration may not be eligible for reimbursements.** Reimbursement rates vary with the type of equipment and equipment manufacturer.

Why buy an extended warranty? An extended warranty provides a longer warranty on your machine beyond the period that comes with the original warranty for your equipment. It includes all the genuine OEM parts and the service performed by factory trained technicians that your original warranty covers. It protects you against the expense of unexpected repairs. Also, resale value is higher, because the plan can usually be transferred to the new owner.

What equipment is eligible?New EquipmentAdd your extended warranty to your financing when you purchase any eligible equipment. You can purchase your extended warranty any time during the warranty period at standard new equipment rates. You can even add an extended warranty up to four months after the base warranty expires*. New equipment plans can be transferred to a new owner, which can boost its resale value.

Used EquipmentUsed equipment that is less than seven years old and has less than 7,000 hours at the time of registration** can usually be covered. An oil test for equipment with over 1,000 hours determines final eligibility. Most brands are eligible for coverage.

■ Repower services retrofit your crane’s engine, an easy way to comply with emissions standards

Crane Restoration ServicesHoffman Equipment has extensive facilities dedicated to repowering and rebuilding hydraulic and friction mobile cranes. With our factory certified rebuilds, you can schedule your machine’s downtime at a predetermined cost. The machine is completely disassembled to its frame and rebuilt with OEM remanufactured components. Manitowoc offers an extensive selection of remanufactured parts through its EnCORE program.

All systems are updated, and new electrical harnesses, instruments, drive lines, hydraulic components, and hoses are installed. Two coats of fresh paint are applied in our environmentally controlled paint booth, new decals are applied, and, finally, all systems are tested.

Crane Repower ServicesReplacing your crane’s engine with one that is Tier 3 or Tier 4 compliant will reduce fuel consumption dramatically and bring the machine into compliance with current emissions standards for heavy machinery. Requirements may vary by location.

Hoffman Equipment will provide alternatives to help you determine the most cost effective solution for your cranes. Our emissions experts can advise you of deadlines and requirements for compliance, depending on where you operate your cranes. Sometimes there are grants available for retrofitting cranes, and we can let you know if your machines qualify.

Page 14: Hoffman Parts and Service Brochure

Crane Inspection RequirementsThe U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety & Health Administration requires annual inspections of hoisting machinery by a competent person who has thorough knowledge of the requirements, regulations, and standards governing equipment operation. The inspection must occur before and during the use of the crane to ensure that it is operated safely. The owner of the machinery is required to maintain a record of the dates and results of these inspections for each hoisting machine. Any deficiencies noted during the inspection must be corrected before the crane is operated.

Crane Inspection ServicesHoffman Equipment offers crane inspections that satisfy all OSHA requirements. Our OSHA inspections are conducted by factory trained technicians and include an in-depth visual and operational inspection of your machine. We put the machine through its normal operating cycles, removing safety covers for accurate inspection of concealed areas. In addition, lubrication, fluid, and torque services are provided.

A detailed list of items that require servicing or replacement in order for your unit to meet applicable OSHA standards is provided. The placement of correct safety warning stickers and operational safety devices is part of these standards. Once the standards are met,

the OSHA report and inspection sticker that Hoffman Equipment supplies certify that your machine is operating safely and allows you access to government funded job sites.
