Thethirdoffsetisthegeometrydesignofthesealingcomponentsnottheshaftposition.Thesealingcomponentsareeachmachinedintoanoffsetconicalprofileresultinginarightangledcone(seeFig1).

Thisensuresfrictionfreestrokingthroughoutitsoperatingcycle.Contactisonlymadeatthefinalpointofclosurewiththe90angleactingasamechanicalstop;resultinginnoover-travelofthediscseat.

Toallowdisplacementoftheseattheshaftisoffsetfromthecentrelineofthediscseatandbodyseal(offsetone),andthecentrelineofthebore(offsettwo).Thiscreatesacamactionduringoperationtolifttheseatoutofthesealresultinginfrictionduringthefirst10degreesofopeningandfinal10degreesofclosing.
