How to make and use QR Codes for class materials

1. Decide which program and lesson you want to use

(Word, Publisher, Power Point to print, etc).

2. Set up the worksheets, activity pages, or lesson so

you have space to add QR codes.

3. Follow along with this printable to help you see

what to do.

4. For these directions, I’ll be using an iPad and a

Windows 8 PC, but other electronic devices may be

used.

4. Let’s get started!

Apps and programs used in the making of the images in this PDF include the following, and I do not

sell anything like these:

1. QR Crafter on iPad use to scan the QR codes created with #2 and or #3

2. QR Code and Barcode Reader (no voice)

3. QR Voice —- use only if you want to make QR codes with voice

4. Airplay on IPad

(not required to make QR lessons, but you might like to know how I made this printable)

1. Reflector to mirror my iPad on the Windows 8 PC

(not required to make QR lessons, but you might like to know how I made this printable)

First, you will need an app on your iPad to read QR Codes. I

will be using QR Crafter for the codes that show text without

voice.

Qrafter - QR Code and Barcode Reader and Generator

By Kerem Erkan

The free version reads QR codes, the priced version creates QR codes.

I open the page I want to add a QR code to, and I keep it open

on my computer. Then I open a QR code generator page on my

PC:

1. QR Code and Barcode Reader (no voice)

2. QR Voice —- use only if you want to make QR codes with voice,

which is sometimes fun in the classroom or a nuisance for quiet

work time.

I find a FREE link on my PC and type in words I want embedded in

the QR code. I type in the words I want (which may be an answer

to a math or science question, etc.)

https://www.the-qrcode-generator.com/

I type in the following text, and as I type, the QR code changes

until I am done. There is a character limit kind of like a tweet.

Grace is a wonderful girl. She is a good worker and a nice friend to

others.

When done, I right click on the QR code image and save as a

PNG to my PC.

Then I insert the QR code into the document I am making:

To read the QR code, I use the iPad and scan with camera using

QRAFTER. The free version of Qrafter will scan, the priced version will

create and scan. I am using the free version. The QR code pops up

when the position of the iPad is correct. This is the part students will

do when working on the lesson you create. The text is in the area of

the red oval in the picture on the right. The text is too small for

emergent readers!

To make a code with voice, so when students scan

it they hear the answer (good for younger students

and emergent readers), use QR VOICE. Type the

words you want in the QR code, and save the QR

code picture or copy/paste in to your document.

“Gracie is a wonderful student who works hard

and is a nice friend to others.” Scan and listen!

Students will use the Qrafter app

and scan with camera, just the

same as for the QR code without

voice.

A URL will also be generated for

your QR code.

Students might like to hear the

QR code over and over.

If I send home the “Grace” page, her parents can

scan the code with their electronic devices, too, and

enjoy the message.
