Growing up in the Outer Hebrides I have been surrounded by a vibrant culture and a wealth of creativity. As a photography student I have been experimenting with the many genres of photography which has gradually developed my own personal style that reflects a range of my personal interests; travelling, fashion, art and people-that reflects a range of my personal interests; travelling, fashion, art and people-watching. I especially enjoy photographing people and I try to portray their character through the photograph. My photojournalism class has inspired me to explore the use of narration through photography, both fictional and documentary.

Post production and image editing, is something that I really enjoy and this year, with dedication and practice I have become progressively good at it. In the future I aspire to become a self-employed photographer and image editor on the Isle of Lewis where I can start an internet based business.Lewis where I can start an internet based business. This course has been a fantasticlearning experience that has helped me discover my own strengths and how I can accomplish my career aspirations.

Back in 2007 I took up photography as a hobby, enjoying the creativity and new ways to look at the world. I chose to go on to higher education in photography which taught me to appreciate photographphotography which taught me to appreciate photography. As my knowledge developed and I had experience working in a range of environments I found that travel photography was what I loved to do as it gave me the freedom to go on adventures and photographing different cultures and people. I have built up a portfolio of travel images that I am always adding to. I want to be able to show the places that I have been and the different cultures that surround us. Sebatiao Salgado’s work inspires me to take adventure and wait for the perfect moment where the image begins to tell a stormoment where the image begins to tell a story.I hope you will enjoy looking at my images here today. If you are interested in my work and want to know more then contact me by e-mail.

During my time in the college HND Photography course, I’ve been given the opportunity to explore and apply new ideas and style I’d never had the changeto try before. I’ve gained new skills, especially within the studio enviroment, and have to try before. I’ve gained new skills, especially within the studio enviroment, and have developed a love for still life and portraiture. I enjoy working with light and darkness as my main focus within my images; trying to tell a story throughthe subjects, as well as their personalities and characteristics.

Although I plan to move my learning onto other areas, I will still continue to useeverything that I have learned over the two years here to pursue my photographyas a hobby for my website and flickr. Art and photography is still very close to my heart, regardless of what my studies in the future may be.heart, regardless of what my studies in the future may be.

I first started taking pictures when I was about 15 years old using my parents compact camera taking photographs of landscapes and close ups of flowers around about where I lived. It was my way of switching oI lived. It was my way of switching off from a busy day and to relax.

My favourite genres of photography are Portraiture, editorial, landscape and abstract photography. I think it's important to be able to show personality or emotion through thephotograph which gives people looking in a good understanding and a way to relate to the subject matter. I also love looking into closer details within a photograph such astextures and tones. There's a real fulfilment in knowing people enjoy and admire yourwork. This is what I hope to achieve with my work to make a lasting impression on people.people.

After finishing my HND at college I am looking forward to increasing my skills and knowledge by going to Gray School of Art at RGU to study BA Commercial Photography.

In life I thought I wanted to become a graphic deisgner but it was through studying interactive and multimedia design I realised that I wanted to try outphotography and well, here we are. I have learnt so much with the opportunity to learn a wide range of new skills, such as improving my visual awareness and expanding my Photoshop knowledge. I love being able to take a person’s characterand personality and portray it through photography. My main passions are within editorial, portrait photography and fashion although what I really enjoy most is editorial, portrait photography and fashion although what I really enjoy most is image editing. I once read that ‘style is a way to say who you are without having to speak’, therefore one day I hope to have adopted a unique, eye-catching and different style that people will recognise my work. My photography, image editing and graphic design skills and knowledge are all a learning and ongoing process that will hopefully one day lead to being in a big city such as New York or Londonworking for a big magazine.

I started off my early photography as a hobby, inspired by my surroundings in nature. I adored the outdoors and always ventured with my camera at a young age.I love using the natural day light in dilight in different ways to create an image.Since landscape and nature was my first love I was never a big fan of Photoshop even my up to date work are never heavily edited. My biggest influence is Ansel Adams his stunning black and white photography was the type of work I loved. The clever use of light draws the viewer into the image. He generates a scene of- what you see is what you get.The photography market is dominated Wedding photography in Aberdeen so I haveventured into portrait work. After years of nature work I found it tricky to work with models so I started with my friends and family. I have now achieved my first wedding and many successful portrait shots in the studio. I loved experimenting and getting out there learning new creativitportrait shots in the studio. I loved experimenting and getting out there learning new creativity. I review other photographers’ results and analyse how successful their approaches have been.I still regularly go and enjoy photographing the Scottish surroundings e.g. the beaches, the stark landscapes, busy city life etc. This is an exciting career which I’m enjoying.

I am currently in the second year of a HND photography course which was not my intended choice when I first came to college, I credit Erinn Yim and Russell Lett for making me choose the course. I have undertaken various assignments in different genres of photography throughout the course with some proving more successful than others.

I will be looking to advance to the BI will be looking to advance to the BA photography course once I finish college to improve my technical skills and produce a higher standard of work than what I am now.

I generally lean towards fine art photography and like to produce work that is personal to me. I am influenced not just by photography when producing new pieces of work, I often look at film or paintings when doing research. My main influences would be the work and attitudes ofinfluences would be the work and attitudes of Alfred Stieglitz, Richard Avedon and the work of visionary filmmaker Terrence Malick.
