H.M. Nailor Elementary School will continue to closely monitor the coronavirusdevelopment and adjust practices as mandated by local, State, and Federal

requirements. A COVID-19 tab has been added to the district’s website(https://www.cleveland.k12.ms.us/COVID19). COVID-19 updates will be availableon that page, along with the school and district social media websites. We also

Safe Return to In-Person Instruction

The students’ first day of school is Monday, August 9, 2021.

Hours of Operation

If your child is sick, keep them at home and contact your healthcare provider. Talkwith teachers about classroom assignments and activities that can be

completed from home to keep up with their schoolwork.

Attendance

Attendance will be checked daily. There are no waivers/suspension of laws related to studentattendance. Students are expected to be at school daily. Attendance reporting will be handledaccording to board policy and procedure. Students who have tested positive for COVID-19 willaccess learning materials virtually..

Health ServicesThe Cleveland School District is happy to have four full time nurses as employees for the2021-2022 school year. They will continue to serve on the front line for our district. We arealso happy to have a partnership with Shaw Family Medical Group. Parents who give consent fortheir child to receive services will receive those services at no charge to the child or district.

Face CoveringsFace coverings (face shield or mask) are mandatory for students, employees, and visitors. Thepreferred face covering is a mask. We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust ourprotocols as needed.

Temperature ChecksTemperature checks will no longer be required upon entry into any Cleveland School Districtbuilding. We ask parents to check temperature and symptoms related to COVID-10 beforeleaving home each morning for school. If your child is sick, please keep your child at home. Wewill continue to monitor the situation and adjust our protocols as needed.

Special ServicesPlease contact the Special Services Director, Mrs. Markeita Brinkley at 662-843-3529 forspecific information related to your child’s IEP, 504, or other documented accommodations.

Child NutritionBreakfast and lunch will be served in the cafeteria with time allotted for cleaning. Breakfastand lunch will be o�ered to all students. We will continue to monitor the situation and adjustour protocols as needed. Our breakfast and lunch protocols are as follows:

★ Breakfast: 7:10 AM – 7:45 AM★ Lunch: 11:00 AM – 12:40 PM★ Safety and Sanitation: Hand sanitizer is located in the dining area for use by students

and faculty. Cafeteria sta� are required to wear masks during all aspects of meal

preparation, service, and cleaning. Cafeteria sta� will disinfect tables, seats, andcommonly touched surfaces between classes.

Routine Cleaning, Sanitizing, & DisinfectingRoutine cleaning and sanitizing will take place throughout the day. Custodians will disinfect theschool before and after school. Each classroom is equipped with hand sanitizer as well assupplies for maintaining clean, sanitized and disinfected facilities throughout the day.Students will sanitize hands upon entering the classrooms, prior to leaving classrooms, afterexiting the restroom, prior to eating meals and after eating meals. We encourage backpacksand lunchboxes to be sanitized daily. iPads, computers, pencil sharpeners, and desks will besanitized before and after use. Students will be able to access all water fountains, however weencourage you to allow students to bring their water in a water bottle. Water fountains will bedisinfected throughout the day.

RecessStudents will be given a fifteen to twenty minute recess daily. Weather permitting, recess willbe held outside. The playground will be divided into three sections- Section 1, Section 2,Section 3. Section 1 will be for pre-K and kindergarten students and will be located near theleft side of the playground. Section 2 will be for Self-Contained students and first gradestudents and will be located in the center of the playground. Section 3 will be for secondgrade students and will be located near the right side of the playground. Students willparticipate in recess in the designated section for their class. Teachers will monitor theirstudents on the playground. In the event that there is only one class at recess, the class willhave free range on the playground. Pre-K, kindergarten and first grade students have theoption to have recess in the front grassy of the school (only two classes at a time; eachsharing one half of the section). Second grade students also have the option to have recessto the right and front of the teacher parking lot (only two classes at a time; each sharing onehalf of the section). In the event that there is only one class at recess in the additional recessareas, the class will have free range in the area. Teachers will monitor their students in theadditional recess areas.

School-Related Gatherings and Field TripsSchool activities, meetings, & field trips are to be determined (TBD). We will continue tomonitor the situation and adjust our protocols as needed. In the event that school-relatedgatherings are held inside the school building, there will be a 50 participant max (one parentper child). Participants are asked to wear a mask if attending the school-related gatherings. Inthe event that we will not host school-related face to face gatherings, we will go live onFacebook and utilize Google Meet.

.TransportationTransportation is available for all students. Before school begins, each bus will be fullysteamed, washed, and properly sanitized. Each driver and monitor will receive cleaning suppliesapproved/recommended by the CDC. All buses will be disinfected daily.

2021-2022 Return to School Bus Requirements

★ Students will be required to use hand sanitizer as they enter and exit the bus.★ When possible, windows will be opened to create an environment with as much

ventilation as possible.★ Students will be separated on the bus where feasible. Siblings or children living in the

same household will be seated together when possible.★ Buses will be loaded from the back forward and unloaded from the front to the back.

Learning LossH.M. Nailor Elementary will o�er after-school tutoring in the traditional format during theregular school year.

Social-EmotionalThe Cleveland School District will provide assistance to address all students’ social andemotional needs by o�ering professional development to teachers and sta� as well asindividual and group sessions for students.

School VisitationSchool visitation is to be determined (TBD). Parent conferences will be conducted virtuallyusing Google Meet or via telephone. Conferences may be scheduled by contacting the teacheror Ms. Mary Williams in the front o�ce. All conferences require a 24-hour notice unless anemergency arises.

Protocol for Possible COVID-19 Concerns- Students

★ A student who tests positive for Covid-19 for the first time must isolate for ten days.

★ Only the person in close contact with the positive case has to quarantine.

★ Close contacts of close contact do not have to be quarantined.

★ Classrooms will have seating charts readily available.

★ Students who have tested positive for COVID-19 do not need to quarantine or get

tested again for up to 3 months as long as they do not develop symptoms again.

★ Siblings of a confirmed positive must quarantine unless that student has already had

Covid in the last 90 days or has been vaccinated.

★ If a child is sent home for symptoms, the child MUST quarantine for ten (10) days

unless proof of a negative test is returned. Sibling(s) do not have to quarantine unless

there is a positive test result from the child displaying symptoms.

★ Students cannot test out of quarantine.

★ If a student or sta� member is tested due to symptoms, they must stay home until

they receive their results.

★ If you have been vaccinated and are two weeks past the last dose, you do not have to

quarantine if you are a close contact unless you show symptoms. You must show

proof of vaccination.

Quarantine Exception: In the K–12 indoor classroom setting, the close contact

definition excludes students who were within 3 to 6 feet of an infected student

(laboratory-confirmed or a clinically compatible illness) where both students were

engaged in consistent and correct use of well-fitting masks; and other K–12 school

prevention strategies (such as universal and correct mask use, physical distancing,

increased ventilation) were in place in the K–12 school setting.

Protocol for Possible COVID-19 Concerns- Employees

★ Notify the HR Coordinator and your immediate supervisor that there is a positive case.

★ A positive test, isolation period at home is ten (10) days. Isolation is counted from the

first day of symptoms or the first day of the positive test with no symptoms.

★ If a household family member tests positive, the employee MUST quarantine for ten

(10) days.

★ If an employee is a close contact of a positive student or employee:

a. They must have a negative PCR test to return to work and quarantine at home

until they receive results.

b. If the employee chooses not to test, they must quarantine for ten (10) days.

c. The employee must use acquired leave days.

If you have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19, you are not required to quarantine after

exposure IF you meet all of the criteria listed below. If you do not meet all of these criteria,

you should follow the quarantine guidelines listed above.

Criteria★ You are fully vaccinated, and it has been two (2) or more weeks since your final dose in

the vaccine series.

★ You have been asymptomatic since your COVID-19 exposure.

★ Proof of vaccination has been given to the nurse or on file with HR.

★ It is recommended to get tested 3-5 days after exposure.

Parent Responsibilities

★ Practice and reinforce good prevention habits with your family.★ We encourage parents to take their children's temperature and check for symptoms

before leaving home.★ Avoid close contact with people who are sick.★ Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.★ Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after

going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, orsneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use hand sanitizer.

★ Ensure student does not have a fever or displaying any signs of COVID 19 beforesending your child to school.

★ Be prepared if your child's school is temporarily dismissed.★ Read or watch local media sources that report school dismissals or stay in touch with

your child's school.

Keep your child at home if sick with any illness. If your child issick, keep them at home and contact your healthcare provider. Students

must be free of fever, vomiting, diarrhea, etc., for at least 24 hourswithout medication before returning to school. Talk with teachers aboutclassroom assignments and activities they can do from home to keep up

with their schoolwork.
