• UNDP collaborates with national and local governments,multilaterals, civil society organizations, academia and theprivate sector on HIV and health

• UNDP joined eleven other health and developmentorganizations to develop a Global Action Plan on Healthy Livesand Well-Being, which lays out how global actors cancollaborate more effectively to accelerate progress towardhealth goals and targets

Working with partners to improve the delivery of lifesaving health technologies

• Millions of people still do not have access tomedicines, vaccines and diagnostics forneglected tropical diseases, TB and malaria

• With support from the Government of Japan,the UNDP-led Access and Delivery Partnershipsupports countries to strengthen their laws,policies and capacities to deliver new healthtechnologies to patients in need

• In 2019, ADP, the GHIT Fund and theGovernment of Japan launched a uniqueinitiative to bring together funders, innovatorsand access actors to accelerate innovation,access and delivery

Working across sectors to tackle NCDs and tobacco control

• Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are on therise, but many countries have still notprioritized NCD prevention and control

• UNDP and WHO are developing countryinvestment cases that highlight the benefits oftackling NCDs – including policy interventionsaround alcohol consumption, unhealthy dietsand physical inactivity

• This year, UNDP supported 20 countries toimplement the Framework Convention onTobacco Control, including by developinginvestment cases and providing evidence tosupport national tobacco control responses

Delivering health services in the world’s most challenging settings

• HIV, TB and malaria still claim millions of lives aroundthe world, especially in countries with fragile healthsystems

• As a principal recipient of Global Fund grants, UNDPsupports countries to roll out HIV, TB and malariaservices to people living in some of the world’s mostchallenging and high-risk contexts – this includessupport on capacity development, risk management,enabling policy environments and sustainability

• UNDP’s partnership with the Global Fund has helpeddeliver lifesaving antiretroviral drugs to more than 2million people around the world, saving 3.1 millionlives18

Preparing health systems for climate change

• Whether it is a sudden natural disaster or ongoingdamage caused by global warming, shifts in theenvironment most drastically affect the poor

• UNDP and WHO are working together to make surethat countries have health systems that canwithstand the negative effects of climate change;UNDP is also working with Healthcare Without Harmon sustainable procurement in the health sector

• With funding from the Global Environment Facility(GEF), UNDP is supporting Bangladesh, Cambodia,Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal and Timor-Leste toincorporate climate mitigation strategies into healthsector planning

Bringing solar power to health facilities

• Health facilities need reliable energy supply tooperate lifesaving equipment, power lights, andrefrigerate medicines and vaccines. Yet theyoften experience power outages or lack accessto electricity

• UNDP’s Solar for Health initiative supportsgovernments to install solar panels at clinics,hospitals and medical warehouses, ensuringthat facilities have a reliable source of power

• Solar for Health has installed solar panels at 652facilities across eight countries, improvingaccess to health services for millions of people
