• There was many sicknesses during this time. To name a few:– Influenza

– Trench fever

– Typhoid fever

– Lice

• Many doctors in the war only had a few years of formal schooling.

• The doctors were aware of hygiene and were careful about their cleanliness.

• The typical medical schooling at the time consisted of only two six-month terms of studying, all of which was spent in lecture classes with no time devoted to hands-on work.

• Woman played a big part in medicine while the men were fighting in the war.

• The care and treatment of the sick has traditionally been the role of women, and throughout history, women developed specialized knowledge about herbal medicines.

• Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman to earn a medical degree, from Geneva Medical

• Many wounded were put into medical camps set up behind the front lines.

• They would set up camps in large buildings that were not yet destroyed by warfare.

• Many run down factories, churches, & storage buildings were used to house the medical fields.
