HISTORY OF THE COMPANY

About the company

Best & Co. was founded in 1879 as a partnership firm in

Madras by Andrew Vans Dunlop Best and the company was

incorporated as a private company in 1911. The name of the

company was changed to Best & Co. Pvt. Ltd., w. e. f 1stMay, 1975

with the consequential change in the name to Best & Co. Ltd. In

April, 1974 the company acquired a substantial interest in the

Crompton Engineering Co. (Madras) Ltd., with whole it had been

associated as promoters and shareholders since its inception. Best &

Co. Pvt. Ltd., were also Managing Agents of the Crompton

Engineering Co. (Madras) Ltd. Up to 31st December, 1969. Pursuant

to an order dated 15th April, 1975 of the Madras High Court; The

Crompton Engineering Co. (Madras) Limited., was amalgamated

with the company and the name of the company was

changed to Best & Crompton Engineering Limited., w. e. f. 27thJune,

1975. The subsidiaries of the company are Krest Development &

Leasing Ltd., Beacon Weir Ltd., Best & Crompton (jersey) Ltd., Kone

Elevator India Ltd., Air Control and Chemical Engineering Company

Ltd., Beacon Tileman Ltd., & Beacon Neyrpic Ltd.

During 1982, the company contracted with (GEE Alathom)

for the manufacture of automotive castings and S.G. iron and withSiemex for firefighting equipment. In 1984, the company concluded

a technical collaboration agreement with sheep bridge of U.K. to

improve the profitability of the foundry operations.

During 1985, the company entered into a collaboration

with Tileman of U.K. in the field of highly specialized Civil

Construction. Kest Development & Leasing Ltd. Ceased to be a

subsidiary of the company w. e. f. 1993.

2000- The company has decided to modify the authorized share

capital of the company to raise 4,50,000 Red.Cum.Pref.Shares of

Rs.100/- each and to transfer the business of the projects division of the

company to a subsidiary company.

Date of Incorporation

Best & Crompton Limited was originally incorporated on

16.1.1911 under companies act 1882 and under the name Best &

Crompton Limited then 26.6.75 the name of the said company in this day

changed to Best & Crompton Engineering Limited and this

certificate is issued pursuant to section 23(1) act 1956.

Date of Commencement

Best & Crompton Engineering Limited commenced its business

from 26thJune 1975.

About the Product

The vehicles, passenger and services lifts, cinema are & Process

Carbons the company manufactures a variety of engineering goods

such as Industrial, Agriculture and Special Purpose Pumps, Starter

Motors, alternators and regulators for heavy duty commercial,

passenger non-ferrous and special alloy steel casting, notirised value

actuators, train lighting and mini generators and light weight battery

charging sets.

Pumps

Best & Crompton Engineering Ltd., Pumps divisions

formerly known as Beacon Weir Limited was a joint venture

company between Best & Crompton Engineering Limited, Chennai

(India) and Weir Pumps Limited U.K. This company was established

in 1982 for manufacturing centrifugal pumps of highest quality. The

Weir Group, founded in 1871, is one of the largest Pumps

manufacturing companies in the worked today.

The Pumps manufactured by Best & Crompton pumps division,

Service the various sectors of Water, Energy, Urban Development,

Environment Infrastructure, Navy, Engineering, Fertilizer, Sewage etc.

Best & Crompton pumps division has also assimilated the technology of

Austria, for manufacturing chemical and process pump B&C pump

division has a reputation for engineering excellence in the design,

manufacture and servicing of engineered products and has a full

fledged dedicated Engineering & Design Department for developing

pumps to specific quality pumps in the Indian Industry.

Castings

A Castings is a manufacturing process by which a liquidmaterial is usually power into a mold, which contains a hollow cavity

of the desired shape and then allowed to solidify.

Electrical Machines

Beacon Train lighting equipment consist of totally

enclosed, 3 phase transom mounted brushless alternator and rectifier

Regulator unit for conventional and air conditioned coaches to suit

various climatic conditions of Indian Railways. These are manufactured

in compliance with RDSO specification for charging batteries and

supplying lighting and fan loads.

Salient Features

Voltage regulation within +5% of set voltage irrespective ofspeed and load current variation. Current limit protection to limit

after alternator current with 120% at rated current. Three phase full

wave bridge connection by individual power diode for rectification

and prevention and prevention of battery discharging through the

alternator at stands still.

Fabrication

Fabrication Division of Best & Crompton caters to the needs of

fabrication requirements of other units such as Pumps, Foundry,

Electrical Machines and Machinery Division.

Some of the Fabrication activities does are Base Frames for

Pumps & Motor, Hydrophone Tanks for Indian heavy, Fabrication of

Pressure Tanks & Vessels, Machinery Beds for huge machines.
