The Confession of Sin BCP 79

Officiant Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

have mercy on us and forgive us;

The First Reading: Romans 7:15-25a

I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not

want, I agree that the law is good. But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that noth-

ing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want,

but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within

me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God in my

inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that

dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God

through Jesus Christ our Lord!

said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent

The Apostles' Creed BCP 96

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth;

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
