Opening Sentences

Celebrant Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

People And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen.

The Confession of Sin BCP 79

Officiant Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

Silence may be kept.

Officiant and People

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us;

that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Absolution

Officiant Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all

goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

Officiant Lord, open our lips. BCP 80

People And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Officiant and People

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Alleluia.

Jubilate BCP 82

Officiant Let us say the Jubilate in unison.

Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands; *

serve the Lord with gladness

and come before his presence with a song.

Know this: The Lord himself is God; *

he himself has made us, and we are his;

we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving;

go into his courts with praise; *

give thanks to him and call upon his Name.

For the Lord is good;

his mercy is everlasting; *

and his faithfulness endures from age to age.

Song of Solomon 2:8-13

8 The voice of my beloved!

Look, he comes,

leaping upon the mountains,

bounding over the hills.

9 My beloved is like a gazelle

or a young stag.

Look, there he stands

behind our wall,

gazing in at the windows,

looking through the lattice.

10 My beloved speaks and says to me:

“Arise, my love, my fair one,

and come away;

11 for now the winter is past,

the rain is over and gone.

12 The flowers appear on the earth;

the time of singing has come,

and the voice of the turtledove

is heard in our land.

13 The fig tree puts forth its figs,

and the vines are in blossom;

they give forth fragrance.

Arise, my love, my fair one,

and come away.

The First Reading: Romans 7:15-25a

I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not

want, I agree that the law is good. But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that noth-

ing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want,

but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within

me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God in my

inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that

dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God

through Jesus Christ our Lord!

People Thanks be to God.

The Gospel Reading: Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30

Jesus said to the crowd, “But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and call-

ing to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.’ For John came

neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon’; the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look,

a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.” At that time Jesus

said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent

and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by

my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom

the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For

my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

The Apostles' Creed BCP 96

Officiant and People together

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth;

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Prayers BCP 97

Officiant The Lord be with you.

People And also with you.

Officiant Let us pray.

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory,

for ever and ever. Amen.
