EDGAR PAYNE: THE SCENIC JOURNEY - American artist Edgar Payne (1883 - 1947), was chiefly self-taught, having a natural talent that allowed him to become one of the most significant painters of his time. In the early years of the 20th century, Payne, influenced by the plein-air painters associ-ated with French Impressionism, was among the first artists to trek into the rugged Sierra Nevada to fully embrace the landscape of the American West. The film follows Payne from his childhood in the Ozark Mountains, through his years in Chicago, and on to his discovery of the California landscape that became his lifelong inspiration. Local producer/director Joshua V. Hassel, and writer/narrator Michael Paglia, created this film in association with the Pasadena Museum of California Art, and with the curators and scholars behind the touring exhibition of the same name. Airs Sunday, October 7th at 9PM and Tuesday, October 9th at 10PM

Biotechnology is changing the way farming is done all over the world. Advocates believe the “New Green Revolution” is the only way to provide sufficient food for the world's growing population while opponents raise environmental concerns and fear that GMOs drive small-scale farmers off the land. BITTER SEEDS explores the controversy — from a village in India that uses genetically modified seeds to U.S. government agencies that promote them. Airs Monday, October 29th at 7PM

NATURE: SIBERIAN TIGER QUEST - Chris Morgan has tracked large predators in some of the wildest and most remote places on Earth. He now embarks on his greatest challenge - to find and film the Siberian tiger living wild and free in Russia’s far eastern forests. This film features the work of Korean cameraman, Sooyong Park, who spent two years in the forest tracking and filming the world’s biggest cat. Park’s tracking technique was very unconventional; he dug himself into an underground pit and, incredibly, waited there for weeks at a time, hoping for a glimpse of a wild tiger. Morgan adopts the same method while he shares with us firsthand the difficulty of seeing the rare Siberian tiger. Airs Thursday, October 25th at 7PM

CALL THE MIDWIFE - This moving, inti-mate, funny and true-to-life series, based on the best-selling memoirs of the late Jennifer Worth, tells colorful stories of midwifery and families in London’s East End in the 1950s. Jenny Lee, a young woman raised in the wealthy English countryside, has chosen to become a nurse and now, as a newly qualified midwife, has gone to work in the poorest area of the city. Attached to an order of nursing nuns at Nonnatus House, Jenny is part of a team of women who minister to

expectant mothers, many of whom give birth at home in appalling conditions. The drama follows Jenny as she meets her patients and learns to love the people who live in the East End. Airs Wednesdays at 8PM beginning October 10th

In a part of America that rarely makes headlines, there is a small town with a group of teenagers who will inspire, surprise and bring you to your feet with their astonishing musical virtuosity and the music they make. MARIACHI HIGH spends a year in the life of the champion mariachi en-semble of Zapata High School on the Rio Grande in south Texas. Airs Tuesday, October 16th at 9PM and Sunday, October, 21st at 9PM

Tap your toes to the beat of this music documentary, which vibrates with the soul and en-ergy of African-Cuban drum-mers, guajira guitarists and the pulsing melodies of celebrated Cuban musician Raul Paz, who brings together fellow musical stars Descemer Bueno, Kelvis Ochoa and David Torrens for a concert in Havana. All of them left Cuba years ago; their deci-sion to return has injected a new spirit into Cuban music. Mirroring Cuba’s growing relationship with the world, HAVANA, HAVANA! highlights the evolution of the country’s musical expression in the 21st century. Airs Tuesday, October 23rd at 9PM and Sunday, October, 28th at 9PM

In BOMBAY BELLYWOOD: LIVE FROM LOS ANGELES the Bellydance Superstars have taken an ancient art form previously seen in clubs and res-taurants and turned it into an exciting mega-show that can compete head on with the likes of Riverdance and Stomp. Airs Thursday, October 18th at 9PM

MASTERPIECE: CLASSIC “UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS” SEASON 2 - In the year before WWII, 165 Eaton Place reopens its doors and welcomes viewers back into the lives of its inhabitants, upstairs and down. Lady Agnes and Sir Hallam’s family is now complete with the addition of two small chil-dren, but Sir Hallam is drawn into dangerous waters by his preoccupation with the threat of Nazi Germany and the return of troubled Lady Persie. Lady Agnes catches the eye of charismatic American multi-millionaire Casper Landry, and Sir Hallam’s aunt, Dr. Blanche Mottershead, has made herself comfortable in the house after Lady Maud’s death. NATURE: SIBERIAN TIGER QUEST - Chris Morgan has tracked large predators in some of the wildest and most remote places on Earth. He now embarks on his greatest challenge - to find and film the Siberian tiger living wild and free in Russia’s far eastern forests. This film features the work of Korean cameraman, Sooyong Park, who spent two years in the forest tracking and filming the world’s biggest cat. Park’s track-ing technique was very unconventional; he dug himself into an underground pit and, incredibly, waited there for weeks at a time, hoping for a glimpse of a wild tiger. Morgan adopts the same method while he shares with us firsthand the difficulty of seeing the rare Siberian tiger. Airs Thursday, October 25th at 7PM
