Wrong installation, use and handling:

Starlette Plus refrigeration dryers.

2

Condensate drain failures. Even a heavy duty HDF120 drain is not designed to

drain mud! Protect the drain with pre-filtration upstream of the drain in the compressed air line. Refrigeration dryer pre-filtration is obligatory!

3

Condensate drain service kits. HDF (egg type) float drain annual service kits (old

and new types) are available.

4

Condensate drain upgrade kits. Timed and float retrofit upgrade kits are available.

5

Condensate drain upgrade kits.

You can now retrofit the HDF120 float drain also to

the old style SGB dryers as well as the SPL units since the new kit includes both connectors.

6

Condensate drain failures. We often complain of power dips but if there are

power spikes, as can occur from lightning strikes, then this can cause component failure such as the timed drain. Take care to protect against power surges on your lines.

7

Condensate drain failures. If the solenoid drain is constantly open then the coil

can over-heat and fail (often bulging). This could occur if the drain timing is wrongly set or if there is excess condensate flow (on PST type dryers).

8

Condensate drain failures. If the user wants to change the drain position then

care is needed to ensure that the seals are tightened to avoid short circuiting from seapage of natural condensation which can also cause a fire.

Factory setting of the CDV CDV has been rotated (no nut too).

9

Condensate drain failures. But, it is essential that the ED drains are protected

against solid particle contamination and refrigeration dryer pre-filtration is obligatory!

10

Condensate drain failures. The ED drains must be protected against solid

particle contamination!

11

Condensate drain failures. Rust if present is attracted to the magnet inside the

float and stops it from working.

12

Condensate drain failures. It doesn’t have to be rust! Any work done on the

air piping should be flushed before installation of the treatment products.

This should be captured upstream by a filter so you must install a pre-filter!

13

Condensate drain service kit. ED electronic drain annual service kits are available!

14

Compressor failures. If the carriers over-stack the smaller units then it is

common for some to fall over in transit particularly so with most shipments being consolidated freight.

Other times the temptation for carriers to stick the small dryers on top of other products is too great and so we often also see them ship flat!

15

Compressor failures. When the piston

compressors are shipped on their side or upside down then their internal motor feet can be dislodged; causing failure on start up.

We have introduced TiltWatch sensors to deter bad handling which results in compressor damage in transit.

16

Compressor failures. If the spare compressors are tumbled about during

transit, oil loss and internal damage occurs.

We have introduced TiltWatch and ShockWatch sensors to deter spare compressor damage in transit.

17

First Aid kits.

The Starlette Plus

dryers have start and, on some units, run capacitors as well as a relay and klixon. These are usually only available if you replace the compressor!

This is why we offer First Aid kits of small electrical parts to be sold with every unit!

18

First Aid kit flyers. A flyer is added to each of the dryers, chillers and

aftercoolers to promote the sale of First Aid kits of small electrical parts with every unit!

19

Fan breakage and seizure.

If the dryer is badly handled during transit it is

possible to damage the motor or unbalance the blades; causing the fan to block over time. This is hidden handling damage.

20

Fan pressure switch false alarms. Fan switch failures can be false alarms.

Check that the switch engages the schraeder valve

stem. The stem must be positioned so that the pressure switch sees the pressure!

And that there is no blockage of the capillary tube or the stem.

NO NO YES

21

Fan switch upgrade kit.

A KP5 upgrade kit is available for the SPL dryers.

22

Fan pressure switch failures. An optional kit is available for the SPL dryers which

signals high dew point which will result from a defective fan pressure switch, fan or compressor failure. Contact Parker for pricing.

23

Refrigerant leaks. If the dryer is suddenly dropped then pipe rupture

can occur where the lamination valve is brazed and mounting screws can also break or strip.

This risks internal compressor damage too!

24

Refrigerant leaks. TiltWatch and ShockWatch transit sensors help

deter and capture wrong handling which is the principle cause of hidden damage.

25

Structural and packaging.

If dropped or shipped on its side

other damage than compressor failure can occur as parts press on the panels from the inside.

ShockWatch and TiltWatch sensors have been implemented to deter and capture bad handling to the end user.

26

Structural and packaging. Thread stripping or breakages are typically due to

excessive force being used during installation of the BSP connections to the piping system (see the yellow warning label) or to the wrong piping being used!

27

Structural and packaging. In these photographs you can see that the

connections had been connected to piping and over-stressed during connection causing cracking.

28

Customer obligations. To provide correct and complete sizing and

selection data of the product for the application.

Ensure correct installation of the product: structural, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic.

Not to modify the product.

Correct operation of the product.

Do required service.

Local country obligations, e.g. leak tests or pressure vessel thickness tests.
