Community Rating System

The Community Rating System (CRS) was created in 1990 as an incentive for communities to do more than just regulate construction of new buildings to the minimum standards of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

The CRS also provides national recognition for communities who exceed NFIP standards by creating new and improving existing floodplain management programs, all the while providing discounts on flood insurance premiums for their residents.
