HINDALCO CORPORATE PROFILE 2015 | page : 4 previous | next | content
The transformational journey of Hindalco began with the farsighted vision of its founder, the late G D Birla, with the establishment of the Company and India’s first integrated Aluminium complex, at Renukoot. Today this metals powerhouse, under the leadership of the Aditya Birla Group Chairman, Kumar Mangalam Birla, spans four continents, and ranks as a superpower among the world’s non-ferrous metal majors.
The only constant at the core of this journey is the Values, on which Hindalco is built and on which the beliefs are pledged and embodied, as in the Principles.
HINDALCO CORPORATE PROFILE 2015 | page : 5 previous | next | content
Hindalco’s commitment to the Principles is structured to provide the foundation on which core processes of the Company will be transformed to deliver superior results in a sustainable manner. Hindalco’s Management Framework has been crafted on the theme of ‘excellence by design’ and founded on the bedrock of the Aditya Birla Group Values of Integrity, Commitment, Passion, Seamlessness and Speed. It is a definitive path that endeavours to make improvement happen, not merely as a chance event, but as an outcome that is far more predictable and sustainable as a process.
Hindalco’s dynamic equilibrium has enabled it to evolve, from an India-centric single unit aluminium company in 1958, to a leading integrated producer, an Asian non-ferrous leader and, after the acquisition of Novelis, a global force as the world’s number one producer of aluminium flat rolled products.
Copper is the other pillar of Hindalco’s metal business, where the Company operates one of the world’s largest single-location custom copper smelter. Beyond the Indian shores, Hindalco sources copper concentrate from across the globe.
Hindalco with its subsidiary, Novelis, represents transglobal revenues of US$15 billion and is the flagship company of the US$41 billion Aditya Birla Group. One of India’s most respected conglomerates, the Group operates in 36 countries, with over 50 percent of its revenues accruing from overseas operations. The Group was ranked 4th in the world and 1st in Asia Pacific in the ‘Top Companies for Leaders’ survey of 2011 by Aon Hewitt, Fortune and RBL. It topped Nielsen’s Corporate Image Monitor 2014-15 for the third consecutive year, emerging as the Number 1 corporate − ‘Best in Class’ − across the six pillars of corporate performance: products and services; vision and leadership; workplace environment; financial performance; operating style and social responsibility.

Mining In India, Hindalco’s bauxite mines are located close to its manufacturing units: at Lohardaga (Jharkhand), Samri (Chhattisgarh), Maliparbat (Odisha), and West Coast Mines (Maharashtra).
The recently commissioned Utkal Alumina Refinery (a 100% subsidiary of Hindalco), gets its bauxite from Baphlimali (Odisha) mines, around 20 kms from the refinery, a great logistic advantage, in times when global majors are sourcing their bauxite across continents.
Hindalco has recently acquired coal mines in Chhattisgarh − Gare Palma IV/4 and IV/5 and in Jharkhand − Kathautia and Dumri. These coal reserves will feed the power requirements of Mahan (Madhya Pradesh), Aditya and Hirakud (Odisha) Aluminium Smelters.
HINDALCO CORPORATE PROFILE 2015 | page : 9 previous | next | content
RefiningBauxite ore is refined into alumina at the Company’s refineries located at Utkal Alumina (Odisha), Renukoot (Uttar Pradesh), Muri (Jharkhand), and Belagavi (Karnataka). Aggregate alumina capacity is around 3 million tpa. Most of it feeds the Company’s smelters. The Belagavi Refinery focuses on chemical grade aluminas and hydrates.
