Completely in line with the transition schedule for Tier 4 Final emis-
sions regulations laid down by the Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA), HIPOWER is launching the HRJW320 Tier 4 Final genset.
Equipped with cuttin-edge technology, this generator aims to reduce
nitrous oxide (NOx) and particulate matter emissions by 80% and
90% respectively. To this end complex processes are employed en-
compassing engine calibration, operation temperature and recircula-
tion, filtration and after treatment of exhaust gases. The final cost of
the generator increases the total cost of the machine by around 35%
and requires an engineering effort and operator training at a very di-
fferent level than required under current regulations. HIPOWER was
the only exhibitor to present a Tier 4 Final generator at Power Gen
in Orlando, putting it in the vanguard of technology, regulation and
trends in the American market.
One of the main factors behind the increased focus on gas genera-
tion in North America is the introduction of the new EPA regulations,
which require gensets to be powered by TIER 4 engines. In addition,
the discovery of large gas fields is leading oil companies to demand
generators that can run on the gas extracted, a development that is
reducing energy consumption costs and drastically curbing pollutant
emissions. Against this backdrop, HIPOWER offers the option of in-
corporating a ‘scrubber’ into its gas genset capable of filtering the gas
obtained from extraction plants to feed the generator.
HIMOINSA POWER SYSTEMS’ gas gensets take the Oil & Gas
sector by storm at Power Gen, Orlando
A host of major North American companies paid a visit to the
HIPOWER display to find out about the latest trends in gas
generation in a context in which vast reserves of gas and oil, coupled
with groundbreaking extraction and production techniques, have
transformed the US into the world’s leading Oil and Gas producer.
Distributors from the generation sector including Gal Power
Systems, Simson Maxwell, World Wide Power Products, Waukesha
Pierce International, Rudox, engines inc, ELM Energy and GT Power
Systems visited the HIPOWER stand, along with the world’s leading
rental companies including United Rentals, Hertz Equipment Rentals,
Red-D-Arc and Sunbelt Rentals, who showed great interest in
Natural Gas generators.
HIPOWER’s Chairman, Rafael Rodríguez Acosta, regards this
event, which ran from 12 to 14 November in Orlando, Florida, as
the most important in the energy generation sector. Accordingly,
the gathering was attended by a large number of management
team members and representatives of the company’s subsidiaries
in Panama, Mexico and Latin America, who forged contacts with
distributors and potential customers.
Major distributors such as Simson Maxwell, Worldwide Power and
Red-D-Arc called at the HIPOWER stand at Power-Gen in Orlando,
where over 21,000 professionals from 75 countries explored the
event’s 1400 stands.
HIMOINSA POWER SYSTEMS, (HIPOWER), the US subsidiary of
HIMOINSA, has unveiled its new range of gas gensets at Power
Gen International.

The HRNG 430 genset, part of the HIPOWER gas range, features an EPA-
certified 22-litre PSI Heavy Duty engine. This genset provides both prime - in
the industrial sector - and standby power (up to 400 kw).
The HW400A welder was also exhibited at the HIPOWER stand. With a 440-
amp output, the HW400A allows two operators to work at the same time, ma-
king it ideal for use in the oil sector. It includes an economy mode, which is
automatically activated, and measures under 60 dB on the decibel scale, making
it one of the quietest welders on the market.
As a mixed alternative, the US subsidiary of HIMOIN-
SA presented a bi-fuel genset at Power Gen which
reduces diesel consumption by up to 62% at times
of peak demand. The operating system is arranged
to use a blend of diesel and gas, thus reducing con-
sumption costs and pollution levels. Demand for
this product is especially strong on North America’s
east coast, where natural disasters are unfortunately
commonplace.
At the same time, HIPOWER is continuing to meet
demand for diesel generation by adding value to its
product. The HRJW105 T6 genset now has a fuel tank
built into the trailer. This modification was made in res-
ponse to the needs of the customer, who requested a
lower generator that is easier to manoeuvre.

“Colombia is the largest Oil & Gas market for HIMOINSA in Central America”
In Central America the pace of growth in demand for gas generation is slower than in North America.
Nevertheless, countries such as Colombia have become the strongest market for our gensets for the Oil & Gas
sector. The main reason for taking part in Power Gen was to show customers and potential customers new
products and highlight our capacity to deal with the changes in energy generation demand over the coming
years.
“We’re all set to satisfy demand for gas generation in North America”
We unveiled many solutions at once, which enabled us to surprise the market with our new gas range, our
genset with a Tier 4 Final engine, redesigned generators for the rental market, bi-fuel gensets, gas filtration
or ‘scrubber’ systems and other electricity distribution solutions.
“Diesel still accounts for 85% of the Brazilian energy generation market”
The Brazilian gas generation market is mainly focused on areas such as Sao Paolo and Río de Janeiro, where
hospitals and large shopping centres require gas gensets. In this context, gensets replace energy from the
public network at times of peak demand and cost, a process known commercially as ‘peak shaving.’
“Gas gensets in Mexico are mainly used in the residential sphere”
The Mexican market will not be applying the Environment Protection regulations agreed for North America in
the foreseeable future. However, we are on the verge of approving an energy reform in Mexico that paves the
way for private companies to invest in gas field research and operation projects in the country, a development
that will drive demand for generators (mainly diesel). In Mexico, gas generation is mainly limited to the
industrial sector and the use of standby generators in the residential sphere.
“HIMOINSA Argentina is ready to supply gas generators to the oil industry”
The US emissions regulations are very similar to those in force in Ecuador and Santiago de Chile. The sale
of gensets of less than 45 kw to any public government project in Quito is subject to Tier 4 standards. The
increase in the cost of this engine and the discovery of major gas fields, in particular in Argentina, are starting
to pique interest in HIMOINSA’s gas gensets. With this in mind, we have also designed bi-fuel generators to
satisfy the requirements of the oil sector.
“HIMOINSA is leading the way in gas generation”
HIMOINSA boasts the most comprehensive range of gas generation products. With defined solutions for
natural gas, the most popular choice, and other options including field gas, LPG and biogas, we have the
capacity to adapt to any gaseous fuel supply. HIMOINSA equipment boasts stringent safety measures in the
gas train as standard and can adapt by default to any supply pressure without incurring cost overruns. Factor in
the renowned quality of our bodywork and this range further enhances Himoinsa’s status as the leading player
in this sector.
