The Families of HILA group will meet on Wednesday, November 28. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the HILA Auditorium. A light dinner and child care will be provided.

Just in time for the Holidays, this month’s meeting of the Families of HILA will provide parents with the opportunity to win a Target gift card. All parents attending the meeting will be entered into a raffle to win a $25 gift card. Please plan on joining us for an informative and productive meeting. Please call the school office with your RSVP so that plans can be made for food and child care.

Reminder - November is science fair month at HILA

The second annual HILA Science Fair is just around the corner. Students should be well on their way to completing their projects. The final science fair projects should be brought to school no later than November 27. Display boards for science fair projects are available in the school office for $2.25 each. Please see Ms. Hall in the office to purchase these boards.

Fall Festival and bake sale on November 21

HILA students are eagerly looking forward to the Fall Festival assembly, which will be held on November 21. The assembly for grades K-2 will begin at 12:45 p.m. in the HILA Auditorium. The assembly for grades 3-5 will begin at 2 p.m. We encourage parents to attend the assembly for their child. Parent seating is available in the balcony of the Audiotorium, which provides the best view of the events on stage. Children have been busy preparing their songs and skits for the assembly.

While at the school, we hope that all parents will take time to visit the Bake Sale being sponsored by Families of HILA. This is an excellent way to support our school, and to take home some baked goodies for the long holiday weekend. Remember: only parents will be allowed to purchased goods at the Bake Sale.

A Word fromMr. JakubowskiDear Parents and Friends:

Chicago Public Schools recently sent out HILA’s school progress report. Based upon our overall rating of 41.7% performance policy points (15 of 36 points) we are a level 3 school. We are currently on probation.

My goal is to make sure that our highly qualified teachers are implementing best teaching practices each day to ensure continued student and overall school growth. Looking at our performance policy from 2012, you will see that we improved in every area and raised our performance percentage points from 16.7% in 2011 to 41.7% in 2012. Since HILA is a new school with limited data some of the trend points were not available to be earned.

I will continue to strive to keep HILA moving in the right direction. Teachers document student growth daily/weekly/biweekly to ensure that instruction is provided at each child’s instructional level. Your continued support and help at home is crucial for our continued path to excellence. As a HILA parent, you have many resources available to you such as the HILA technology center, family resource room, TAP resources, Pearson Success Net, parent workshops, Families of HILA, and resources provided by your child’s teacher.

Fall awards assembly celebrates student progress

HILA applications available online, open house dates setWe are glad to announce that the 2013-2014 enrollment process is now open! The Hope Institute Learning Academy will be accept-ing applications for new students until the application deadline on March 22, 2013.

In addition, open house dates for parents considering HILA have been established. Those dates are December 13, January 31 and February 28. Please share this information with families who may have an interest in HILA.

UIC Health Clinic at HILA expands hoursThe UIC Health Clinic at HILA will be expanding its hours on Tuesdays in an effort to serve more family members of HILA students. Beginning November 27, the clinic will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. every Tuesday. Our school is fortunate to have this wonderful resources avail-able for students and family members - please take advan-tage of it!

HILA students learn that real men READOfficials from the Chicago Blackhawks visited HILA to stress the importance of reading as part of the Real Men READ program. Thanks to our partners at the Blackhawks for helping to reinforce the importance of reading!
