Medicine

In medicine, the welded bellows is used as a flexible serum store made of titanium F67 (pure titanium). The COMVAT welded bellows is the centerpiece of a serum pump that can be implanted into the human body which restores the quality of life of patients with chronic pain.Another application in the field of medicine is as a complex compensation tank, which is integrated by Siemens in the oil circulation system of CT scanners.

Vacuum valves

In feedthroughs, welded bellows envelop the drive rod and form a seal between the vacuum and the atmosphere when the valve is opened and closed.

Automobiles

The COMVAT damper capsule that is built into a high-pressure pump compensates pressure surges in the fuel injection system of motor vehicles. The high volume of several million per year requires fully automated manufacturing as well as stable processes.

Planning / Design

In view of economically and technically optimum functions, consideration of the overall system and close cooperation with the customer are essential. Therefore, the first stage of design deals with the question of what the requirements for the welded bellows are.In addition to proven technologies from our range of welded bellows, we have the motivation and the know-how to implement new ideas and solutions.

Manufacturing process.

Development

We currently have more than 150 dimensions and variations of diaphragms. Our range is constantly expanding and the application policy is being continuously optimized. A development process that is defined in detail and clear calculation rules guarantee the shortest possible time between the simulation and the acceptance test / series production.

Testing and analysis

In order to monitor the service life under realistic conditions, our testing and analysis laboratory contains extensive testing facilities. Depending on the application, cycle tests can be carried out not only with linear movements, but also with lateral ones, with internal or external vacuums and at elevated temperatures. Metallographic examinations of welds or of new materials are carried out in our in-house laboratory. Fracture mechanics analyses with external partners often give the end user important information regarding the prevention of damage in everyday use.

Punching

One of COMVAT’s core competencies is the punching and embossing of diaphragms. The selective use of different presses (with punching forces from 30 t to 800 t), a high degree of automation as well as the ability to produce all the tools on site permit continuous mass production of standard sizes for welded bellows, from an inner diameter of 2.7 mm to an outer diameter of 810 mm.

Welded bellows production

COMVAT is a world leader in the production of welded bellows, and especially in process automation. The entire welded bellows production system is located in a cleanroom of class ISO 8; the high degree of automation of the laser welding machines is ideal for the production of large batches.The manual workstations, equipped with microplasma devices or lasers, enable cost-effective production of single pieces and small series.For COMVAT, there is both an incentive and an obligation to continuously improve our technologies and processes and to be fully committed to creating the maximum added value for our customers.

Mechanical systems

We are capable of making customized bellows end pieces quickly and flexibly in our own mechanical production facility. Our customers benefit from our extensive know-how and the perfectly executed weld preparation between the welded bellows and the end piece.

Cleaning

Our highly advanced cleaning systems with fully automated cycles meet all customer requirements (e.g. grade 2, VAT purification stage X). Due to our experience in medical technology, we use alkaline detergents with a high pH. The final rinse is always carried out with ultra-pure water (<0.5 microsiemens). We therefore attain a very high surface tension and perfect cleaning results.

Quality management

COMVAT welded bellows meet the highest requirements in terms of imperviousness and durability. To be able to guarantee 100 percent impermeability, we subject every bellows unit to a helium leak test after it is completed. From the raw materials to the final inspection, the production process is continuously documented. This makes it possible for us to provide all relevant proofs of quality for the materials used, purchased parts as well as our own manufacturing processes at any time. Service / support
