Extending the Simulation to the Cloud
Highlights Extend your simulation to the Web
Leverage new LTI Web standard to
connect to apps in the Cloud
Integrate web applications with data-
centric applications
Interoperate in the same network
Web & Mobile apps with Live, virtual
or Constructive simulators.
Simware Web Extension provides the developer with all the required tools and libraries to integrate
simulations made with Simware platform into the Web.
Simware Web is enabling the use of the simulation as a service or MSaaS (M&S as a Service in NATO
terminology). Integration of LVC simulations into the web is the new frontier for the simulation community
and now is available with Simware. Simware Web extends the applicability of our platform to new
markets and solutions as E-learning, Virtual Reality, Blending Training, Augmented Reality, massive online
gaming, etc.
This extension is enabling also new business models as the creation of marketplaces for simulation
Services or the creation of communities of interest (CoI) to share simulation capabilities in the Network.
The adoption of this kind of business models will change the whole supply chain relationships in the
simulation & training industry, enabling new kind of partnerships between its different stakeholders.
Simware Web extends the applicability of Simware platform to Mobile and Web devices.
This extension provides a new Web access to our open platform. Developers can leverage
this new access to create thin-clients deployed on Mobile or web devices that can be
integrated with real time simulations running over some of the standards supported by
Simware as DDS, HLA or DIS.
Future of virtual training is in the web. Virtual training, especially provided by high-fidelity simulators requires
dedicated facilities, demanding that trainees goes there to do the training. Till now only basic training
capabilities are available on the web with coursewares that are using multimedia applications with limited
interactivity and realism. But customers are asking for have the option to do all or part of this training anytime and
anywhere, using web or mobile platforms. For example, Spanish Army Staff is asking for doing as much training as
possible in the local base, avoiding to move forces to dedicated training sites. In this way more virtual training can
be done, reducing overall cost of training in the Spanish Army.
Simware Web extension allows to distribute any kind of simulation (Live, Virtual or Constructive) , compliant with
the most relevant standards in simulation (as DDS, HLA or DIS) in the cloud and its integration with learning or
training applications in web and mobile platforms. In this way, high-fidelity simulations can be used on web and
mobile training applications. Simware Web extension leverages a standard for web applications—LTI—(Learning
tools Interoperability) o open Simware to the Internet of Simulations.
Web API in Simware Web allows to integrate Simware simulations with any LTI compliant educational environment.
LTI is a specification developed by IMS Global Learning Consortium. The principal concept of LTI is to establish a
standard way of integrating rich learning applications (often remotely hosted and provided through third-party
services) with platforms like learning management systems, portals, learning object repositories, or other
educational environments. In LTI these learning applications are called Tools (delivered by Tool Providers) and the
LMS, or platforms, are called Tool Consumers. Many educational platforms or Tool Consumers as Moodle or
Coursera are already compliant with LTI.
Leveraging this LTI based API, Simware Web allows to deploy Simware thin-clients in web or mobile platforms. Thin
-clients have full access to the real time simulation capabilities and features in Simware platform through the
SimWeb server. SimWeb server works as a broker between the RESTFUL based messages in LTI and the data-
centric architecture in Simware.
THE INTERNET OF THE SIMULATIONS
EXTENDING YOUR REAL TIME SIMULATION TO THE WEB
Simware Web provides three main components to extend your simulation to Web or mobile scenarios:
SIMWEB SERVER. SimWeb leverages the LTI standard to create a web server in Simware to connect with web
clients running in a browser or in a mobile device. As any other component in Simware platform, SimWeb
server is independent of the simulation data-model. A generation tool is provided with the extension to
generate a specific web server for the
simulation data-model employed in
Simware simulation.
SIMFACTORY. This extension provides also
the capability to deploy and
manage simulations hosted in the Cloud,
in a farm of Servers. SimFactory Service
allows to start, run, manage and close
simulations sessions leveraging our web
interface. SimFactory can manage
multiple instances of the same simulation,
each one serving a different client.
ELEARNING CONNECTOR. SimWeb server
and SimFactory service are used to
c r e a t e t h e f i r s t d i s t r i b u t e d
simulation connector to Moodle learning platform. Using our eLearning connector any developer can
integrate real time simulations made with Simware as Activity Modules in Moodle. Courseware products can
leverage this artifact to add fully interactive physics-based simulations to multimedia courses.
Simware Web extends the publish-subscribe paradigm of Simware
platform with a client-server architecture based on LTI Web standard.
The first Open Multilayered Architecture
Simware Web allows to
deploy and manage
s i m u l a t i o n s s e r v e r s .
SimFactory provides the
developer with all the
mechanisms to create,
execute, manage and
destroy multiples instances
of any Simware simulation.
SimFactory can manage
multiple instances of the
s a m e s i m u l a t i o n o r
federation of simulations in a
farm of servers, each one
using their own logical data
domain.
These instances of the simulation can be managed by Web or mobile applications compliant with LTI messages
supported by SimWeb Server.
Applications for this innovative technology are many :
Deployment of simulation servers in distributed simulation federations, providing common services as
weather, weapon effects, etc.
Use of simulation applications as services, enabling new business models as M&S as a Service,
Infrastructure as a Service, etc.
Centralization of the simulation host in training centers, serving several training devices (i.e. one host of
simulation to be shared by many devices, from the FFS to the PTT)
USING SIMULATION AS SERVICES
About Simware and NADS
Simware Solutions is leading the introduction of Open platforms into the Simulation & Training markets. Our platform Simware leverages the
new Layered Simulation Architecture or LSA to fulfill the requirements of the lead users of the industry, which are demanding open
architectures, better interoperability and increasing economical returns for their investments in simulation and training solutions.
Our platform is the first commercial product available to build and federate simulations in compliance with initiatives at SISO and NATO related
to the use of Simulations assets as Services in the Network. Simware platform provides, out-of-the-box, seamless interoperability of SISO
simulation standards like HLA, DIS or CBML with the OMG DDS standard. Multi-standard compliance makes affordable to any budget the
development and deployment of LVC simulations over any kind of network.
Beyond our products, our commitment is with standards, actual and future; because of that, we are working at SISO and NATO to develop the
future standards and technical architectures for distributed simulation and for the use of M&S as Services (MSaaS).
Simware Solutions is the technological company of NADS. NADS is a simulation company, leveraging radical innovations to make affordable
the use of simulation solutions for anyone, anywhere and anytime.
