Who are we?Emirates Foundation was established in April 2005 under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi and the meticulous direction of his brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.In 2012, the Emirates Foundation was re-launched as an integrated national initiative that seeks to invest in UAE youth. The new strategy uses the model venture philanthropy with a view to impacting the lives of young people in the UAE positively and permanently. To achieve this, the Foundation is running six programs (Kayani, Kafa’at, Sanid, Esref Sah, Think Science and Takatof) in three key focus areas: social inclusion; community engagement; and leadership and empowerment. It will seek to identify, educate and inform the public about challenges facing the youth in the UAE while developing sustainable, enterprise-based solutions to social issues and motivating young Emiratis to volunteer, participate and give back to society. Emirates Foundation works to enhance partnerships between private and public sectors, in order to develop sustainable ways of helping young people in the UAE make an active contribution to the country’s development. The Foundation is funded through contributions from the Abu Dhabi government and private sector companies.

What is SMBZHEG?The Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Higher Education Grant is an annual Scholarship programme that aims to support outstanding graduates from Zayed University from both Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses. The programme was instituted in May 2011 with a vision to furthering the UAE’s efforts of shaping a knowledge-based economy.Under the Scholarship programme, a number of full-degree master’s or doctoral scholarships are awarded to applicants for enrolling into leading universities across the UAE and overseas for highly sought-after programmes in education, social studies, tourism, environment, engineering, museum and curatorial studies, as well as healthcare and public administration, aeronautics and nuclear engineering, and management.

Master’s degree with SMBZHEG:

Prospective Masters students have a choice of several universities and disciplines inside and outside the UAE provided that all universities of choice must be included in the top 200 Academic Ranking of World Universities – and accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

PhD degree with SMBZHEG:

Prospective PhD students can choose Degree Fellowships at universities located within the UAE and internationally. The United Arab Emirates University has launched a number of qualified PhD degree programs suited specifically for students with travel limitations.

The program provides selective support for summer study at an overseas university (Top 200) to increase candidates’ familiarity with location, culture and scholarly requirements.

What do I get?The scholarship will cover some or all of the following:

UAE based universities

• Tuition fees for the university programme

• Book purchase stipend

• For UAE based PhD studies – Tuition fees and selective support for attending international research conferences or visits to international research centers

Overseas universities:

• Monthly stipend to cover living, personal and in-country travel expenses for the duration of the program

• Tuition fees for the university program

• Book purchase stipend

• Annual round-trip (Once a year) economy airfares between the UAE and country of study for the duration of the program

• Health insurance fees if not covered by the university

• Conference attendance will be covered for PhD fellowships only in the final year of study

• The scholarship will cover only the approved items listed above during the prescribed time period

Any extensions or breaks in study must be requested in writing and approved by the programme administrator.

Applicants should ensure that all requested information is provided and all documents requested are uploaded at the time of application. These documents include:

• A certified copy of the applicant’s degree certificate(s) along with an official transcript

• Evidence of English language proficiency, e.g. IELTS of 6.0 or TOEFL 550 (80)

• A copy of the applicant’s passport, Emirates ID and family book

• A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)

• A Statement of Purpose (This is a chance for you to write about yourself and what interests you in life. You can also use this space to try to persuade the committee to offer you the grant)

• Letter of acceptance from the university

• The programme only accepts online applications

How can I apply? (Online applications only)

Scholarships and Fellowships are subject to adherence to an attendance policy and satisfactory academic performance. Reports from the university will be monitored and scholarships may be terminated immediately for breach of attendance policy, academic performance, or scholarship programme rules. A GPA of 3.0 should be maintained throughout study.

How can I maintain my scholarship throughout my period of study?

Payment of personal allowances will be made every 6 months. Extra allowances will not be provided for married persons or those with dependents.

How is the stipend payment made?

In addition, applicants should download and send the reference letter forms to three nominated referees and forward the letters to Emirates Foundation scholarships’ department. The address is included in the reference letter which you can find in the following link: www.emiratesfoundation.ae

In addition to the academic value of studying in one of the top 200 universities in the world, the most essential component of SMBZHEG experience is the amount of friendships made. Given my major in (Tourism), it is very handy to have close friends spread around all over the world in one course. It opens up a window of opportunities for you to interact and understand people from different mentalities, backgrounds and cultures. The scholarship programme offered me once in a lifetime opportunity.

من نحن؟تأسســت مؤسســة اإلمــارات يف أبريــل مــن عــام 2005 بتوجيهــات كرميــه مــن صاحــب الســمو الشــيخ خليفــة بــن زايــد آل نهيــان، رئيــس دولــة اإلمــارات العربيــة املتحــدة وحاكــم إمــارة أبوظبــي، وحتــت إشــراف ومتابعــة أخيــه صاحــب الســمو الشــيخ محمــد بــن زايــد آل نهيــان، ولــي عهــد أبــو ظبــي، نائــب القائــد األعلــى للقــوات املســلحة يف دولــة اإلمــارات العربيــة

املتحدة.

يف عــام 2012، أعيــد إطــاق املؤسســة حتــت مســمى »مؤسســة اإلمــارات لتنميــة الشــباب« كمبــادرة وطنيــة متكاملــة لاســتثمار يف طاقــات الشــباب يف اإلمــارات تعتمــد يف اســتراتيجية عملهــا علــى مفهــوم االســتثمار االجتماعــي القائــم

علــى حتقيــق تأثيــر إيجابــي ودائــم يف حيــاة الشــباب مــن خــال تبنــي برامــج وطنيــة مســتدامة وذات تأثيــر واســع.

وتعمــل املؤسســة علــى تطبيــق ذلــك مــن خــال ثاثــة محــاور عمــل أساســية هــي القيــادة والتمكــن، وذلــك مــن خــال مســاعدة الشــباب علــى تنميــة مهاراتهــم وقدراتهــم، مبــا يؤهلهــم للدخــول يف ســوق العمــل، والدمــج االجتماعــي، وذلــك مــن خــال التعــرف علــى التحديــات التــي تواجــه الشــباب، باإلضافــة إلــى تعزيــز الشــراكة املجتمعيــة، التــي تقــوم علــى تشــجيع الشــباب علــى التطــوع كأســلوب حيــاة، وحتفيزهــم علــى املشــاركة املدنيــة، مــن خــال عــدد مــن البرامــج التــي

تســاعدهم علــى فهــم قيمــة املشــاركة املجتمعيــة.

ولتحقيــق هــذه األهــداف، تعمــل املؤسســة علــى حتديــد وفهــم التحديــات التــي تواجــه الشــباب يف دولــة اإلمــارات، جنبــًا إلــى جنــب مــع إيجــاد الفــرص املائمــة لتنميــة الشــباب أنفســهم. حيــث تعمــل مؤسســة اإلمــارات علــى تطويــر وإيجــاد مشــاريع مســتدامة تقــدم احللــول للقضايــا االجتماعيــة امللحــة مبــا ينمــي مــن مهاراتهــم وقدراتهــم وثقتهــم بأنفســهم،

وقدرتهــم علــى تولــي أدوار ومســؤوليات قياديــة.

برنامــج منحــة الشــيخ محمــد بــن زايــد للتعليــم العالــي هــو برنامــج زايــد جامعــة مــن املتميزيــن اخلريجــن دعــم إلــى يهــدف ســنوي بفرعيهــا يف دبــي وأبوظبــي. ومت إطــاق البرنامــج يف مايــو مــن عــام علــى قائــم اقتصــاد لبنــاء املبذولــة اجلهــود تعزيــز بهــدف ،2011
