Mike Walker, Assistant Administrator, UVU Wasatch

Nestled in Heber Valley and on the road to Park City's ski

resorts is Utah Valley University's Wasatch Campus. The Wasatch

Campus is a

residential

extension of

UVU that

offers small

classes and

degree pro-

grams in an

intimate set-

ting. Built in

2003 with the

architectural characteristics of a ski lodge, UVU's gorgeous Wasatch

Campus provides students a quality educational experience with a

beautiful view.

An Education Gem in Heber ValleyHeber City is a great location for new fresh-

men or students coming back to school later in life.

UVU Wasatch offers four degree programs-three

Associate of Science degrees (Behavioral Science,

Business Management, and University Studies) and

one Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary

Education. The campus is also hoping to expand

its degree offerings in the future. All classes have

less than 30 students, with the average class size being

about 15. Many of our faculty hold terminal degrees, and all

have graduate degrees from elite universities across the

country. "The Wasatch

Campus captures the spirit

of the Wasatch Back, and

Wasatch provides a fantastic

education that prepares stu-

dents for Utah's workforce,"

said Tom Melville, Wasatch

Campus Administrator.

Furthermore, outdoor

enthusiasts feel right at home in Heber Valley. Our thriving

student life program challenges students to get involved and

get outside, and Heber itself boasts a plethora of outdoor

opportunities. Students can take a UVU scuba diving class

at the Homestead Crater, cross-country ski at soldier hollow,

or bike through the valley, not to mention the great fishing,

hiking and hot-air ballooning, among other activities. This

picturesque location in the hub of the Wasatch Mountains

offers world-class outdoor recreation the whole year round.

Park City is also only 15 minutes from the Wasatch

Campus. Heber and Park City

are filled with art festivals, con-

certs, theaters and restau-

rants. The area also hosts the

Utah Olympic Park, Sundance

Resort (home of the Sundance

Film Festival), four world-class

ski resorts and several top-

rated golf courses.

The campus offers student support services like advis-

ing and tutoring, just like the Orem campus, in small and

intimate environment. The UVU Wasatch Campus is locat-

ed three miles north of Heber City, Utah on Highway 40.

The campus is within 30 minutes of both Provo and Salt

Lake City. For more information, drop by the campus or visit

www.uvu.edu/wasatch.

There are a

number of pro-

grams available to

high school stu-

dents which will

help meet higher

education prerequisites or upgrade student's skills.

Utah State Office of Education (USOE) offers Career and

Technical Education (CTE) opportunities in a number of industries.

In addition, the programs are also offered at Mountainland Applied

Technology College (MATC). Mountainland has been named #1

Trade School in Utah County by the Daily Herald. It offers certifica-

tion and training in a number of

trades and medical programs.

Students can enter these programs

while in their junior and/or senior

year. These classes will prepare stu-

dents for college and help meet pre-

requisites. These programs can also

help students who do not plan on

attending college, but go directly to

work, such as; welding, automotive,

informational technology, physical

therapy, and many other areas.

These programs also give students

skills necessary to obtain high paying

jobs without a college degree thus

helping to pay for college years.

MATC offers these programs

and many others with the help of

counselors at each high school.

Contact your high school counselor

to enroll today. The best part of

these programs is for high school

students the tuition is free. There will

be fees to pay, but they are minimal.

MATC is one of the state higher

educational institutions under Utah

College of Applied Technology

(UCAT). It’s sole mission is to provide

job training tailored specifically for

business and industry workforce

needs. UCAT has several campuses

across the state. Over 50,000 stu-

dents - both high school and adult

learners - were served last year. The

faculty has extensive, current experi-

ence in business and industry. Small

training classes are the norm with

lots of hands-on experience and indi-

vidualized instruction.

The Pharmacy

Technician program

has a 98 percent com-

pletion rate, and of

those who have com-

pleted, 100 percent

were employed in the field. The LPN program has a pass rate of

100% on the PN-NCLEX examination for the Utah State LPN licen-

sure.

If you need more information about our programs, contact your

high school counselors or contact MATC directly at 801-863-6282 or

go to our website at www.mlatc.edu to register.

radio to working on cadavers in a lab to going to

Juilliard School camps in music, theatre and dance.

miss class,” said Karen Montano, a sophomore at Snow. “Plus

you know almost everyone on campus, so it is a fun place to

go to school.”
