FINAL TEAM RANKINGS

Page 3: High School Basketball All County 2016 - Spencer …...An impressive full season resume included an undefeated run in the Pacific Coast League, ending the season with a 15 game winning

1 1 25-3 Mater Dei

The Monarchs did not lose a game in Orange County and wind up 25-3 despite a returning class that did not match the stardom of

past seasons. Mater Dei found a way to win games, had to defend and fed off the unselfish play of top OC sophomore, Spencer

Freedman.

2 2 23-4 Los Alamitos

Eyassu Worku was the best player in Orange County all season and Los Alamitos won close games against Edison and Orange

Lutheran to prove to be the second best team. The Griffins also benefitted from contributions from Pepe Garcia, Jake Eyman and

other capable role players.

3 3 21-6 Orange Lutheran

OLU did everything but knock off Mater Dei this season. One of Coach Norstrom's most balanced teams with Joseph Riley, Zach

Jervis, KaVaughn Scott and Chris Williams leading a potent offense that also played great team defense, especially in two wins

against Santa Margarita.

Page 4: High School Basketball All County 2016 - Spencer …...An impressive full season resume included an undefeated run in the Pacific Coast League, ending the season with a 15 game winning

4 4 17-9 Santa Margarita

A solid season for the Eagles which lands them the last spot in the CIF Open Division to face Chino Hills. Santa Margarita won thegames they should have but were not able to knock off Mater Dei or Orange Lutheran in the closing stretch of those rival games.

5 7 22-5 Northwood

An impressive full season resume included an undefeated run in the Pacific Coast League, ending the season with a 15 gamewinning streak and only losing two games on the season with Jake Linsky in the line-up.

6 5 19-8 Esperanza

The Aztecs slid from a top five preseason ranking out of the top ten to end the season right back where they started led by KezieOkpala, Travis Kettering, Brendan Harrick and a cast of supporters. Once Harrick became eligible, Mark Hill's squad only lost onegame the rest of the season.

7 8 22-4 Crean Lutheran

Page 5: High School Basketball All County 2016 - Spencer …...An impressive full season resume included an undefeated run in the Pacific Coast League, ending the season with a 15 game winning

In maybe the most surprising outcome of the regular season, Crean Lutheran, led by Coach of the Year, Josh Beaty, won 22 games

including several impressive wins behind a versatile attack of capable shooters and scorers who bought in on the defensive end.

8 12 19-7 Foothill

Rusty Van Cleave was a strong contender for Coach of the Year after an extremely impressive season for the Knights. Despite not

having a superstar player, Foothill fought their way through the ultra-tough Crestview League and played consistently well all season

long.

9 10 21-6 Yorba Linda

Most analysts had Yorba Linda in the bottom half of the top ten to start the season and they did not disappoint. Led by Hope-bound

Isaac Douglass, they won the North Hills League and consistently beat more talented teams all season long.

10 15 20-6 San Clemente

The Tritons won twenty games and the South Coast League Championship with a versatile attack led by Dillon Waikle, Gage

Shelmidine, Jake Cameron and Cole Fotheringham.

11 9 20-7 Edison

With an explosive backcourt of Randall Walker and Nate Matthews, the Chargers had aspirations of a Sunset League Championshipbut were unable to knock off Los Al. Nonetheless an impressive season led by a dynamic duo of perimeter scorers, who both return.

12 6 16-11 J Serra

The Lions recovered nicely from a down year last season. The addition of Sebastian Much combined with Cal-bound Alec Hickman, helped Joedy Gardner assemble a strong offensive unit that hovered around the top ten all season.

13 11 16-11 Villa Park

An injury to explosive point guard Myles Franklin down the stretch derailed the Spartans otherwise successful season. The additionof Evan Battey helped propel Villa Park to be a top team in Orange County all season long and begin the playoffs as a team to watch.

14 14 20-7 El Toro

Page 7: High School Basketball All County 2016 - Spencer …...An impressive full season resume included an undefeated run in the Pacific Coast League, ending the season with a 15 game winning

Todd Dixon's squad had their ups and downs this season but like the Chargers typically do, they competed and defended to wind up

the season as a possible top ten team on their way to another twenty win season.

15 13 14-14 Servite

The Friars would have had a chance to win any other league in Orange County outside of the Trinity League, proven by quality wins

over Northwood, Canyon, and J Serra. Losing Otis Reale to a broken wrist was tough for a team without depth or shooting.

16 16 23-4 Ocean View

Ocean View started the season slow but got healthy and made it through a tough non-league schedule that included some bad

losses. Once they got to League, there was nothing stopping them from an undefeated Golden West League title with their perimeter

play and shooting.

17 17 19-8 Corona Del Mar

Sam Kobrine and Matt Cvrtlik helped lead Ryan Schacter's Sea Kings squad to yet another impressive season. They were unable to

knock off Northwood but they had several impressive wins and will be a threat to make a run in the postseason.

Page 8: High School Basketball All County 2016 - Spencer …...An impressive full season resume included an undefeated run in the Pacific Coast League, ending the season with a 15 game winning

18 19 21-7 Newport Harbor

It is not easy to win 20 games, let alone in the Sunset League. The Newport Harbor program got back on a winning track this year

after several down seasons and appears to be headed in the right direction for years to come.

19 18 18-8 Beckman

Not a surprise that Beckman finishes in the top 20 this season as they displayed their outstanding perimeter shooting last year led

by Michael Yee, Kai Weissenberg, Justin Reinhardt and Shane Taleisnik. If the Patriots had size they could have competed with

anyone and they had their share of impressive wins including at CDM.

20 NR 19-9 Sonora

Mike Murphy's squad got off to a rocky start in Freeway League play but ended the season on an impressive winning streak. Led by

Kevin Marlow, Austin Carter and Steven Riley, the Raiders finished strong to again be crowned Freeway League Champions.

21 NR 15-11 Tesoro
